Seth, Thank you for making this video. I'd love to see more detail on setting up the strobe to do the strobe in the front and the strobe in the back and then cut the photo out in Photoshop. Mark

Does your light make a popping sound when hitting the test button?

Looks great and a nice easy to read display on the flash head and the trigger. Wonder if it will be brought to the UK?

his is an OEM version of the Jinbei HD-400 Pro Battery-Powered Monolight sold by Adorama as the ORLIT Rovelit RT400.

What is the compatibility with the lights with the jinbei/ orlit system?

So, now that you've tried the Westcott JG Beauty dish, how well does it hold up in comparison to a real beauty dish? Does it come close or does it mainly behave as a smaller, round softbox?

Yes, surprised other manufacturers haven't yet made a Universal trigger (ahem Flashpoint/Godox). Nice work, Westcott. 👍🏼

You mean, "Nice work, Jinbei." The Jinbei HD400 has been around for awhile and this is simply been rebadged. Jinbei also had that universal remote for some time.

Cactus has had a universal trigger on offer for quite a while no. Requires different firmware variants, though. On the other hand it supports cross-brand TTL/HSS.

I noticed the light was on TTL mod with + 0.2. Did you set this manually or through the remote. The remote I have will not control the light in TTL mode. What am I missing.

This looks to be the best bang for the buck strobe ever. I just wish the idea of the universal remote (brilliant) would carry over to strobes. If you could mix strobe brands and have them be able to shoot ttl regardless of brand that would really be something. As much as I am impressed with this light I'm invested in Flashpoint (Godox). No one is making a universal system where anything works with everything. Everyone is trying to protect themselves and their share of the market by being proprietary and frankly, it is not helpful to those of us on the ground. Those that could afford one really good strobe to mix with what we have have no choice but to stick with a brand or lose a bundle by switching manufacturers. I have 7 Flashpoint lights and I can't afford to jump ship. For those buying their first lights though this Westcott Strobe and system is the obvious choice. Should be a big winner for Westcott.

Bang for buck??? Not hardly. The exact same light and remote are for sale at Adorama under the 'Orlit' name for FAR less. The 'RoveLight RT400 TTL' is currently $160 less than the Westcott branded unit. The Westcott trigger is $10 more than the Orlit version and doesn't include the Sony adapter(an additional $20). Lastly, the Orlit branded lights come with a TWO year warranty compared to the Westcott ONE year.

Can this be set up as an optical slave?

Hi Adorama I have a question and hope you can help me. I have a FJ400 strobe, the FJ-X2 trigger and a Nikon D750 but I'm unable to shoot greater than 1/250 sec without getting the harsh shadow from the curtain. I'm quite sure I have all three set to HSS aka "1/250 Auto FP" in camera but I can't get it to work. What am I missing??

Kareem Abiodun Musa remote is separate, about $100 & use on sony requires a hot shoe adaptor retails for about $20. Still a much better solution than some of the other manufactures considering individual remotes can add up rather quickly when you’re someone who shoots multiple camera brands.

Soooo westcott just paid Jinibi (sorry about my spelling) to slap their name on it lol or the Orlit 400 lol.

It's actually a bit more than that. Westcott took the light, told their engineers to go over it and make the enhancements it actually needs. It's not a side by side copy. There are a bunch of hardware and software enhancements. You also have Westcott support here in the USA.

Looks like a solid product. Sadly, no Pentax support. :-(

@@WestcottLighting I wouldn't mind not having TTL support, but HSS support is crucial. Pentax shooters don't get that from your trigger. Hope you can add support in the future!

Looking at that battery I'm guessing Godox is their OEM manufacturer 😉

No. It's a Jinbei unit(HD-400Pro), currently sold by Adorama for $399 under the 'Orlit' name(RoveLight RT 400), rebranded by Westcott for $570. Hell, they even marked the trigger up $10 over the Orlit. By the way....The Orlit branded units come with a TWO year warranty while Westcott only gives you ONE year.

No, it's a rebranded Jinbei HD400 Pro. The remote is also Jinbei-made and very different to the Godox ones (only three group buttons instead of five; but ergonomics could potentially be better).

The question is here whether Westcott has bought at Rollei or Rollei at Westcott ...

Since this is already the second generation of this light by Rollei and only the first by Westcott I think Westcott bought it from Rollei ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Looks like a re-branded Orlit ... which is re-branded Jinbei.

Actually looks like a Rollei HS Freeze 4s which just came out a gewesen days ago in Germany, which is a upgraded version of the Jinbei HD400 (better recycle time, color consitency, a dust and water resistant body). Specs are totally the same from what I can see.
