Yeah, and I always found that so sad. Cause the thing that leadership on both sides agreed on, was that they wanted none of it. On the show Bartlett wants reform done- but is in the minority, even in his own party. And so he finds ways to bypass the leadership, including trading ambassadorships and other stuff - and his main ally is a Republican who is an outlier in his party. The one thing the show’s party leadership agreed on, was to let corruption run amok. For a pretty optimistic show, that was kinda dark.

In many states including the District of Columbia, it's illegal to ask a job candidate his political affiliation. Also, it's usually a violation of attorney-client privilege to describe a memo you rendered to a previous employer (since it usually reflects confidential legal advice). Some candidates might not have noticed or spoken up, but a candidate for White House counsel? Joe Quincy was an entertaining character, but this was not the writers' finest hour.

  • @ValeriePallaoro

Wrong. As this piece shows; absolutely the finest hour; and we've seen multiple times where out right argumentative questions have been asked by the staff to open up the story. We've also seen whole shows where the question has not been asked and how that manifests and who works it our. In this case it was not only pertinent but made the salient point in Josh's words 'a republican better look like Ainsley Hayes' 'He does' and that no matter what your politics ... no. matter. what. .. you can be on the right team. Writers made this abundantly clear with this coupling.

There are still a few who find public service in lieu of personal wealth to be rewarding. Cops and firefighters. Soldiers, sailors, and airmen. Teachers. And, though I am a staunch critic of religion, I have to include clergy on that list. Belief in, and in service of, higher ideals.

@Michael Moretti Not to ruin your fictional story line to fit your narrative, but that wasn't the case at all. Joe Quincy actually plays a large role in the episodes he is in. He uncovers that the VP is having an affair and giving out classified information to said woman. He also is important in getting two people nominated and confirmed to the Supreme Court, one of which was a Democratic woman to take over as Chief Justice. I'd say he did a bit more than pad his CV but nice try, I guess.

@Michael Moretti In true youtube fashion, you clearly didn't read what I wrote. You just saw a reply, skimmed, and tried to squawk. I never said he was a major character. I said he played a large role in the 3 episodes he was in. So, even though he was only in 3 episodes, it wasn't like he was just an extra. Reading comprehension is important.

Funny how quickly times change, totally sexist thing to say about Ainsley Haynes, an implication that she got the job because she was attractive. Throw away line not so long ago, now one that would ruffle some feathers. The great and interesting part, is that I think it's progress, and others think it's a sad turn. Who's right?

If you have to argue with someone every damn day, though, it's probably right that they be good looking. Two things, first you don't mind so much, the fight, second there's an underlying understanding that pretty people are easier to listen to; so if you value challenge in your life - and people in the white house should, then any way you can be made to listen to the opposite point should be taken advantage of. Also .. not sexist per se, but is there a beauty-ist? Like agist is for old people?
