Anyone whose ever been in a position of leadership that leaves, then returns after some time will see themselves here. No tickertape parades, no time to reminisce, just a, nice to see you again followed by "back to work", only you're not invited. It's the feeling of both familiarity and intrusion colliding.

and the new faces who have no idea how important you used to be...but now someone else is. Its always a surprise to find out we're replaceable out of need to keep the organization going.

Yep, good summary. This is why I don’t “return” if I can help it. I always have this “who rearranged my office” feeling. But it hasn’t been MY office for some time now…

@@jeremyalm9006 Where I used to work, I had a boss leave for greener pastures and as SIC I got saddled with his work. He went to tech college for it, I didn't. Around the time when it was about to be clear I was in over my head, he came to visit...and asked me personally how I felt about him returning and taking his old job away from me. We'd worked together for years before--i even mowed his lawn for him when he broke his collar bone--so I was honest about it. Made him feel better he wasn't taking anything away from me. Best boss I ever had. Even when he tossed me under the bus, he'd admit later his instinct had been dead wrong.

Once heard a phrase from a leader of an organisation I really respected saying (of his own exit), that the lasting impression we make is the same as that of taking our hand out of a bucket of water. I was impressed with the humility, self awareness and wisdom of those words.

"who's ever been..."
"Charlie, toby -- have you met?" Hahahaha
One of my favorite episodes of the later years “365 Days”.
Um, I think you meant “compliment” in the title, not “complement.”

Aaron Sorkin probably did the title. You know how bad he is at research.

@@partyguy101ify It's a complement of white house staff, who are listening to Leo (briefly).

The whole complement of staffers got taken
That welcome back gift gag didn't age well... RIP John Spencer
"Compliment." Please, God. "Compliment," not "complement."
Undersecretary for Low Grade Conflicts, never heard of that one before.

Almost certainly a fictional post, but probably one that'd be quite useful tbh 😂

The real name is: The Assistant Secretary of Defense for Special Operations/Low-Intensity Conflict or ASD(SO/LIC). Low-grade conflict idk if it was ever used by the DoD, doesn't make even sense lol

He's in charge of preventing bar fights
This was funny, but it was lifted straight out of two Jimmy Stewart movies, "Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation" and "The Cheyenne Social Club".
Leo blindsided...
*Compliment

A complement of staff are in the clip, to meet and welcome back Leo, and listen to him. A play on words.
You spelled "compliment" wrong.

This epitomizes the fall from grace of the show after Sorkin left. There's no way Leo would continue on ignorantly and not "read the room" that everyone is busy, and there's no way Sorkin would play this character with stature for laughs in an average joke at best.
"Compliment", not "complement"
For a show that cared so much about language, it’s disheartening to see a spelling error in the title of this video. Compliment is the word that you’re looking for.

The show also cared so much about compassion and not judging people, so how about you give this intern a break
Such a tired cliché. We get it. We really, really, really get it: The White house staff is super-dooper busy. My goodness! They can't even have a ten-minute meeting without being called away to an emergency! I used to live on Pennsylvania Av about a mile from the Capitol. I would meet my wife as she walked home from work, and the half-way point just happened to be on the East Capitol grounds. I'd usually be there just a few minutes after five. I can't speak for the West Wing, but at the Capitol, every day at five to five thirty, it looked like the building was on fire the way people were leaving. I think this whole "everybody works 25 hours a day, 8 days a week" is a myth.
