West Side Market Hallelujah Chorus Flash Mob - Cleveland, Ohio
Музыка
The West Shore Chorale and local choral friends gathered at the historic West Side Market in Cleveland Ohio to sing the Hallelujah Chorus on Dec 18th, 2010. Call it a Random Act of Culture or the West Side Market Flash Mob, it is cool to see so many people singing in the market.

@scangemi they went out of their way to share the holiday spirit. be thankful for it. who cares about shopping for that perfect gift, tis' the season for joy and being with the ones we love.
I can hardly tell the difference from the performers and the rest of the crowd, but I do believe I can see many of the regular shoppers that couldn't resist joining in. Hallelujah! The Lord continues to reign over all (including Cleveland)!
BRAVO! Thank you! This brought tears to my eyes! Perfect venue for those of us who miss Cleveland!
it was dubbed. i was there.. there were 600 of us singing.. thank you very much
you should do it in a mall or sams club! or where there are more than 12 people! sounds great! and more should be able to enjoy it!
@PaulFarace I agree, my friend. This is not very random, but it is still a very good thing to have in our lives.
Joy spread in any part of the world is God sent! Thank you Chorale singers for the moment! It was beautiful!
Was singing in it what a rush ... Would do It again
Congratulations to music director John Drotleff, the West Shore Chorale and all musicians in Cleveland who participated in this wonderful event. Beautiful!
Hello Cleveland! May the true spirit of Christmas prevail; forgiveness, joy, tolerance and giving from the heart. Beautiful.
I love it! " I just hope all those people bought stuff to keep the vendors happy. ;)
That's My Home!! Awesome Job! Everyone!! Soo Proud!
Clevelanders have a spirit that is unmatched! Beautiful. What a great city.
You guys should have done it at Tower City, by the fountains. There would have been more room and you would be able to see peoples reactions.
Wonderful! That is a good example of the holiday spirit! Sharing moments like this! Way to go Clevelanders!!
Very well done Cleveland. Merry Christmas from England and thank you for spreading the joy!
Awesome! That had to sound so great in that building, with the arched architecture and brick. I wish I were there when this happened!
Love the joyous positive energy of all, singers and shoppers alike
Fabulous! I do miss the spirit of Cleveland! Harriet
This happened a year or two ago at Wannamakers (now another department store) in Philadelphia where the choir had the benefit of the magnificent pipe organ that has entertained shoppers for decades. Regardless of what minor inconvenience this might have been for vendors, a moment of culture, to hear what is arguably one of the most moving oratorios in musical history, is what this season is about. Leaving any religious debate out, voices raised together in such a way raises hearts and souls and leaves everybody in a better place afterwards.
I love seeing the happy faces!!!!!!
What a beautiful event and in such an important building in Cleveland's history. How many Clevelanders have spent Saturday morning shopping at the West Side Market. Don't worry about the vendors, first, it only lasted approximately 5 minutes, not long at all and second, anyone who regularly shopped at the West Side market knows that by 2:00 on Saturday, even before Christmas, the traffic has slowed WAY DOWN. They were probably glad for the extra folks. Happy Holidays !
Very nicely done! That's a terrific piece of Christmas cheer.
We love you Cleveland!
from what i can see, the market was NOT busy when they started... if you can't wait 4 mins for alittle christmas cheer, then go be a grinch someplace else.. this was a kewl idea and i wished i would have been there!
@boogiefan1 We are in agreement and it is good! God bless you for recognizing the truth. I have had some really difficult encounters with nonbelievers and have had to tell them that The Lord would rebuke them and that I did not have to do it. I am so happy to see believers standing up for this.
It does the soul good to have experiences like this. This is VERY Cleveland behavior!
Beautiful!! Thanks for spreading the word!! Merry Christmas!
Very nice sounding great. I remember when at least every Saturday the market was this crowded.
Beautiful!! Thanks for spreading the word!! Merry Christmas! From Raleigh, NC.
coolness
Handel's The Messiah always gives me goose bumps when I hear it and had I been at the west side market for that I probably would have peed my pants!!
@lavatube11 From Wikipedia: A flash mob (or flashmob)[1] is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, perform an unusual act for a brief time, then disperse.[2] The term flash mob is generally applied only to gatherings organized via telecommunications, social media, or viral emails.[3][4][5][6][7][8] The term is generally not applied to events organized by public relations firms, protests, and publicity stunts.[5][9]

Bravo!
wow blew my mind
@scangemi and I'm not trying to be a grinch either. I think it was a good performance, just a bad venue to interrupt. That cost of the 5 minutes doesn't include the cost of parking and traffic pattern interuption, or potential market goers that turned around and left after seeing how packed it was.
@rubber314chicken proportionally I disagree....gyros and bakery. People work their busy schedules to go there to shop....but if I had known about it, I could have avoided it...I had lots of shopping, there and elsewhere, to do that day and didn't get it done. These events should be announced so everyone can schedule their busy holiday schedules around it. I would just say it's a courtesy, isn't that what the holiday spirit is all about? :)
heh...I recognize quite a few people here...
@ladydigger Happy Christmas England! And everywhere else all over God's creation! ~ from Akron, Ohio, USA
Sounded great, but one question (and correct me if I'm wrong): Isn't a flash mob suppose to be spontaneous singing from a few and then others join in with 'only' the singing, no recorded music? This is how I've seen most other flash mob stuff. Although I liked this one a lot, it seemed more like a gathering of singers that started all at once to sing on cue to the music, so it didn't seem like a flash mob, but more of a 'surprise' chorale music performance. Sounded great though! Good job! A+
@creativeplanetjanet Amen!
@ocnoreen AMEN! my friend, AMEN!
GOTTA ♥ CLEVELAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@jessmattweb so now I get to be told how I spend my holiday time when I'm not working. excellent. I can't help it if the point isn't understood. oh well. It was nice though, just think a consideration of other people's time is something to consider. Do it at Snow Days at Progressive Field.... Plenty of room and all people enjoying leisure time. Get 20,000 people because you aren't gonna bother kids who are sledding or ice skating...
GO to see a French Musical Flashmob on youtube : To Hand The Torch The Musical To Gare/ Subway Haussmann Saint Lazare 22th june 2011
The one done in the suburban mall food court is much better because you see the reaction to the unsuspecting people in the crowd. This entirely misses the point of a flash mob. But still, anytime you bring God and culture into our drab over commercialized society, it's a benefit.
sounds totally dubbed, at least they are singing to a sound track.

Orchestra was recorded - people were singing live.
@JizumChrust I wholeheartedly agree. My father owns a stand at the market and he said many longtime customers simply left because they couldn't make their way to the stands. The few weeks before Christmas are the busiest times of the year for the market. That means even more money was lost, just so these people could gain their 15 minutes of youtube fame. I hope this doesn't occur again this year, with the economy the way it is. My family, and the families of other stand owners can't afford it.
GO CLEVELAND! Somewhat nasty acoustics (kind of like singing in a hospital bathroom) but inspired nonetheless. I'm sure you made SOMEBODY'S day! KEEP SINGING!!!
@audra6900 has obviously not been at the market on any given saturday, let alone the saturday before christmas. yikes.
@RetreatingBlade are you serious? im glad im not friends with either of you!!! freedom of friendship!
Wonderful! but sad that only about one in thirty people were singing. The words are not challenging yet the non-chorale people did NOT join in, a glaring sign of the growing secular/PC society we are quickly becoming.
the west side market is the shit cle for life
Just goes to show that no muslim president or other agnostic false god worshipper can shut us up. We are born again washed in the blood and we will sing out our praise to Jesus Christ, Our Messiah and King Who shall reign forever and ever. The nonbelievers will be the ones shut up by The Lord. We will sing out His praises with all creation! Maranatha! King of Kings, Jesus Christ, Our Savior!
I wonder how much money the business owners lost because foot traffic was interrupted for half an hour, not including the all parking taken that would have been used by customers. Hope the city tracks down every one of these scofflaws and prosecutes them to the fullest extent of the law.
It's too bad that most of them just left right after and didn't buy anything.... I was there, getting seafood at Kate's Fish, and the traffic (foot, driving, parking) was a little screwed up. This is one of the busiest times of the year. Sorry but from a Utilitarist point of view, this isn't the right time or venue to interrupt. These guys aren't open every day & 5 min of singing probably cost the entire place tens of thousands of dollars.
