my neighbor father was a commander in a Kanonenjagdpanzer in the 80's and from what he told me was the job of this vehicle was not to engage tanks that was the job of the leopard their mission was to eliminate the Russian IFV and supply convoys also the Leopard crews often looked down on the Kanonenjagdpanzer crew as they view it a a unterpanzer

Here in Germany the Leopard 2 starting with the A5 variant is called "Der Leopard mit dem Keil" ("The Leopard with the wedge").

I always go for M113 Infantry cause they do have 3 Milan and combine them with Leo 1 for mobility and versatility. This is my list: Leo 1 Panzerkompanie 2 Leo 1 HQ 3 Leo 1 3 Leo 1 Full M113 Infantry 3 Gepard 2 Luchs Support 4 Lars w mines M113 OP 3 Leo 2A5

I would play to the Germans biggest strength.. the ability to kampfgrupe. The starter box gives you 4 marders get another box and Panzergrenadiers you've got solid mechanised infantry that can be supported by in formation leopard 2a5s or Leopard 2s plus artillery and AA again all in formation. You might be left with some points left over so aircraft in the form of PAHs or tornados should give you a better ability to fight tanks and infantry. The issue this has is yeah sure Milans are good but you get a set few and eventually those leopards will fail armour save checks and you won't have a way to push back large quantities of tanks. The mechanised Marder infantry give you a solid backbone and that also easily incorporates tanks

Re the 100pt list. Need specialist AA. One of the best counters to those very expensive tanks is air power.

could you do a review like this for the soviets in latest version? It was a nice video to watch.

its a pity they are willing to make the prototype marder 2 but not the prototype wiesel RMK 30 (which had a specially designed recoiless 30mm autocannon, which despite being recoilless had higher muzzle energy than regular 30mm, so AT10-11) which was canceled for similar reasons.

also the Kanonenjagdpanzer were converted to Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 2 due to the arrival of the T-64, a 105mm version was also proposed but rejected.

@@matthiuskoenig3378 well a 105mm Cannon would not have helped this kind of immobile Combat System ;-) Using Raketenjagdpanzer Jaguar 1 and 2 was the better call after all.

I'm planning my own West German collection, intending to be exclusively Leopard 2A5s, Marder 2s, Gepards, MARS, LARS, Rolands, and some Tornados. Currently, the 100 point list I've set up is a Leopard 2A5 company with 1 Leopard 2A5 Command, a platoon of 4 Leopard 2A5s, and a Panzergrenadier Zug with 3 Marder 2s with the 50mm guns, supported by a Roland Flakpanzer Batterie with two Rolands.

Hi there, one little petpeave with being in modern times almost, there're actually some vehicles in (west) german military that are a lot younger then early 80s, like the Panzer Haubitze 2000 or the Fennek. On the same Page, there aktually never was a Marder 2 in service.

well the marder 2 was delayed and then canceled due to the weakening and then fall of the soviet union. since the project start date was 1982 its entirely possible in a hoter cold war that some would have made it to service.

In case you missed it, World War 3 didn't happen either. ;) Fictional timeline, it's not unreasonable to conclude that West Germany decided to maybe put Marder 2 into service after all, and during wartime, technological advances in armor tend to be greatly accelerated. If the Germans went from the Panzer III to the King Tiger in 6 years, it's not unreasonable to expect they would wind up with the Leopard 2A5 a few years into the war.

@@TenkaiHimura It would be the natural acceleration of technological advancement during wartime. Remember that the basic chassis and hulls are essentially the same as they were in the 80s, most of the improvements have been add-ons and upgrades to the electronics and such. The literal nuts and bolts haven't changed much in 30+ years.

jagdpanzer kanone is only used as the AT missile vehicle, then it shines. Re the army list, the unit of leopard feels too high, i found using M1A1HC is fantastic but just too expensive. The cheaper units, due to the 2+ firepower on most soviet guns make them too much, you need more vehicles

The jagdpanzer and STuG are really intended for an ambush situation but with the advent of IR and Thermal technologies they became unusable. The only downside to your list that I see is somebody with artillery or a list with a lot of cheap tanks like the East Germans(like to see that in a game.... damn COVID!)

not really, the germans had assault gun type vehicles in development untill the fall of the soviet union, when the leopard 2 was considered good enough. the real issue was competeing with modern stabilisers combined with turrets, so the germans developed a complex system to overcome this, and trying to solve the bugs in this system delayed the vehicles. they were intended to enter service alongside the leopard 2 more or less, but ended up getting stuck in development hell.

The only way you can spam Weasels is if you bring multiple Fallschrimjager formations. It's not going to be efficient either, because if you go with HQ/Max Platoon/Max Platoon/Weasel TOW/Weasel AA, you would need to duplicate that two more times. Not worth it, because you don't have a lot of points left for armor, AA, or Arty. So you decide okay HQ/Minimum Platoon/Minimum Platoon/Weasel TOW/Weasel AA now you have small West German infantry platoons that don't have the stands to take a hit. Not efficient. Weasel has the same problem that 90% of the Humvee TOWs and the Sheridan has for Americans: it's not a Black Box option, so you cannot bring it as a Black Box Formation Support Option. Also, I think you guys are mixing up how Armor v AT works in this game...With a T-80 Front Armor of 20, a TOW Missile with AT21 can hit the T-80 from the front. The T-80 player has to roll a 1 on a d6. If that happens and you make your 3+ FP, the T-80 bails. On a 2+, the T-80 is safe. Not effective at all. Leopard 2A5 has FA22. A TOW Missile hits. The Leo2A5 player doesn't have to roll, because if he drops a 1, adds to his FA22, that's 23 to 21. A US TOW2 or M1A1/A1HC would put you in a similar spot to the T-80 scenario above. The M1 would also have to be under 16", otherwise your armor becomes FA23 v AT23, EVEN match no penetration. This is not Warhammer where a bolt pistol can wound a Baneblade. If you cannot beat the FA or SA, you cannot KILL. Chobham only works for Side Armor and brings it to SA16 v HEAT. Kanonen Jagdpanzer was designed to take hull down position and fire 90mm AP at T-55/62 coming across the boarder. It was not a nostalgia trip. It was a cheap, cost effective chassis to bring more 90mm guns online. The only reason to bring two platoons of these is to pad the formation that gets them in the formation, and when paired with the Jaguar 2 gives you a tank that is immune to Deep Reserves. This now gives you a gun for hunting BMP and holding the line until the Leopard 1/2A4/2A5 arrives. People complaining about Soviet Autoloaders don't understand that the Autoloader takes the place of the human loader to make a smaller turret. It takes time to load still, assuming it doesn't grab the Gunner's arm. Furthermore, you can bring more T-72/64/62M/55AM than NATO can bring 2/2 or 2/1 tanks. It is balanced, and I highly recommend y'all play the game before crying about it.

Problem with going all in on Helicopters. Turn 1 (turn that you want to disembark) you land. Turn 2 you dismount. That's not good, because enemy teams within 4" will force you to take off and thus delay the disembark. Also, you are now dismounted and not in bulletproof cover; cannot issue a dig in order as disembarking counts as moving. It's solid, but those aluminum boxes have guns that can shoot all the time. Pick your battles. Finally, BF recommends 105 as the standard game size for 2021.

the thing with t64 autoloader hurting crew is a complete propaganda myth. The only incident in testing of the autoloader was a broken finger (or arm, i cannot precisely recall). Team yankee might be fun but its not realistic at all, soviets are made out to be a comical villain with ability akin of a monkey with a banana slushy for a brain attempting to operate a forklift. In 1985, soviets had a technological and numbers edge over nato, which is confirmed by any semicompetent contemporary analyst and declassified cia documents and studies. For example, the 105mm L7 no longer had the ability to penetrate soviet t64/72 tanks frontally, unless a lucky hit occurred. And abrams and leo2 were not in theatre in meaningful numbers compared to t80b/t64b/t72b (kontakt 1 was applied in that year too but frontline units still lacked it in 1985 for all intents and purposes)Likewise soviet sabot, while notoriously losing velocity faster than nato rounds, would and could smash through the terriboy understr ngthrd front hull of leo2a4/ m1a2 abrams (apart from the turret for abrams, leo still suffers) like a hot knife through butter. Having the leo2a4 in ty is not even fair without introducing kontakt 5 equipped t72s, as they came out in 1989 whereas leo2a5 is a product of the very late 90s, first prototypes 1997. What is true is the spread of thermal optics was very underwhelming in late soviet military compared to nato. Also you mention the 90mm cannon of jagdpanzer against t55/62, their upgraded versions should shrug off heatfs rounds of such small calibre shapes charges comfortably and any kinetic rounds would just fail to penetrate even the raw steel on stock t55. Pathetic red scare propaganda is what team yankee is largely

why ddint the west germans just use the M1 Abrams? Why does everyone have to have their own unique tank?

The book title is wrong. It should be "West Germany". Of course it's "west german" troops, but that's not in the title. The full title should be "Military of West Germany". It looks weird to me as a german. Never heard us being called the "west germans" before.

Because there is no east and west germany anymore. Team Yankee is semi historical so it's set during the cold war

still dont understand why maniuall loader have 2/2 rof while autoload have 1/1 rof, one of this games biggest bullshit.

its got to do with the reload of manual guns ranges from 2seconds to 8seconds [8s being the minimum pass for us tankers, most can do 6s, some can do 3/4s and a very small minority can do 2s) depending on loader skill, while the autoloader reload ranges from 6 seconds to 8 seconds depending on the position of the carousel (on the T-72/T-80/T-64). its still BS that on default all NATO tanks get twice the shots of the soviet autoloaders. it should be a separate upgrade (that allows ROF 2/2 and 3/3, from baseline rof 1/1)

@@matthiuskoenig3378 there is now tak in the world that can reload in 2 seconds. second of all you can tak best conditions and that it takes 2 seconds. if the tank on the move it wont take 2 seconds, if the tank is about to change the positions the loader can not take out the round and stay with it in the compartment while the tank starts to move up and down, if the tank gets penetraited then ammorwrack won do its job. if the loader gets tyrerd and or gets shocked or gets ingjured its besicly it. if you would say that loader is alwasy faster i would agree with you but loader is faster first 15 seconds after his stamina is over and over time autorealoader takes over in rof. auto reaload alwasy work in the same speed while manual gets slower and faster from time to time. if the loader haven eaten the whole day and that momen he gets in to combat hes preformens wont be 2 or 3 seconds. hes preformens will be much slower. so thats why ROF 2 for western tanks and rof 1 for easter tanks is invalid.
