Done without DAW, pure talent.

Bloody brilliant. And makes you realise how fresh this song sounds compared to modern day crap, even though it is over 30 years old.

This arrangement was a cornerstone of the e/music industry in the 80s. PERIOD! Far be it for me to endeavor to speak the technical language, but the minor "coloring" with other elements innundated your senses with shades of light, shadows, odors and aromas, fear, hopelessness, lust, et al in ways that the video could NEVER approach! Don't try to correct perfection! That keyboardist NAILED IT, and this cover captures the original note for note! Would love to see a time lapse fade of all instruments played in real.....wait...txt me and I'll try to record it for you, as a thank you gesture!

Agree...those strings are to die for. PSB of the 80s is my favorite band of all time. Their great skill along with great producers created a dream of music and remixes and B-sides in the 80s. If anyone could let me know what the Emulator II string patch they used, that will be great. It seems to have high attack and release times...

Love that bass line

What's particularly good about this is not just the accuracy of the sounds.. but your mixing. It sounds right in line with a classic SSL 9000 mix, with the right amount of buss compression. Plus the verb and gating on the drums is just spot on. Nicely done.

This is too good. Shockingly, 200K views and only 2.7K likes... people are ruthless.

This is ridiculously good. One of the best cover versions of any song that I have ever heard.

Robert Sullivan yeah his is a joint mutual love with EM's version. EM's is like THE master version but I love vdublu's version equally (he even sent me the MP3 of it about 5 years ago!)

@@dav1dbone I like the modern PSB too but nothing beats the classic 80's PSB and I agree...Estuary did an awesome job. I have all the extended dance remixes and B-sides of PSB that are normally even better than the originals...what a band!

Some of us never left. We just added on more time and situations in different directions. Our roots go too deep in some era, and the musical soundtracks of that particular time-line.

Ah....the 80's.... what an exceptional special decade in every way not just music..you just had to be there... eat your heat out

Thanks all for the comments. @johnbrees, I recorded into and mixed in Cubase 7 with a few UAD plugs and some hardware outboard.

Anyone that has any negative remarks on this work is just not from the real world, because MAN! it is a masterpiece redone, and you should be listed as a world famous top producer! PSB could use the talent you've got for their new records. I bow and take off my hat for you sir!

Lifelong PSB fan here and if I heard this without knowing it was a cover, I’d assume it was a demo version or outtake by Chris Lowe before they did one more take for the album. It’s that good! ❤

3 years on from posting my original comment, I still love this and listen most days. West End Girls is my favourite song and this does it justice.

Maybe the best possible cover, so close that it sounds like an alternate take of the original, not like a cover! And the variations made with good taste and criteria..excellent!! Please keep this coming, especially instrumentals from the first era! Suburbia album version? Love comes quickly? Heart? Whatever!! Thanks for this!!

Thanks Paul. That's the point that the EII strings come in. The JX-10 is already playing a soft synth pad / electric piano sound and I guess its just one of those happing mixing moments when two sounds just seem to gel perfectly.

This is very good and that bass line is so dope.
