It's the survivorship bias effect- you're less likely over time to even remember or have exposure to the bottom 50% of 80's songs. The 80's become less associated with the copious bad music from the 80's and more with the stuff people still want to listen to.

When my father heard West End Girls for the first time in 1985, he had the feeling that a new era in music was being ushered in. This new synth melody with its melancholy undertone fascinated him. And indeed, the Pet Shop Boys revolutionized Disco/Pop music at that time. My dad thinks it's still a milestone today, and so do I. He made me a huge PSB fan and if I have kids someday, they'll grow up with their songs too❤

The 2020s suck so much. The 1980s were superior in every way. 'West End Girls' was a huge hit in 1986 - I remember it was flooding at the time (a very rare occurrence in the middle of the desert), and so I'll always remember this song 🎶.

You had to be from the eighties to realise and appreciate how different this was to everything else around at the time. A true masterpiece that had an impact on music for the rest of the decade. Like a lot of eighties music, it sounds as fresh and modern as anything today.

Because a person's "end" is their butt. I was a freshman in high school when this song came out. If i could pick one year to listen to music for the rest of my life it would be 1984! All the young people that love 80’s music is a testament to how great music was in the 80’s!

There are certain 80’s songs that give me an overwhelmingly painful and bittersweet sense of nostalgia. This is definitely one of them.

For me, it's like the 80's lasted from about 1983 until 1993, musically speaking. Maybe my age has something to do with it, the phases of my life, but those years seem to go together as a set or have some common thread between them. Hall & Oates were tremendously popular in the 80's, but to me don't have an 80's sound at all. On the other hand Sting's "Fields of Gold" sounds totally 80's.

The 80's were a great time for music!

I live in Iran. Our country was at war in the eighties. We lived almost with minimal means. At that time, we received this song through radio transmitters of neighboring countries because there was no free music in our country. In it I wanted to know how a western teenager lives and this song always brings me back to that era. sadness and hope
