West Bay Railway Station, Dorset - On the Jurassic Coast

The Bridport Branch ran from Maiden Newton to Bridport and West Bay in Dorset. The line is sadly closed, but the remains of the station at West Bay are still full of nostalgia.
This short video is about the history of the West Bay station. A full video about the Bridport Branch is on the way.

*NOTE* I just noticed a slight mistake in my narration. West Bay station was closed in Dec 1962. The Bridport Branch wasn't closed until May 1975.

I've visited West Bay many times over the last 20 years but knew nothing about the station or its history until I watched this video. I shall endeavour to visit the Station Kitchen at the first opportunity. Thanks for posting.

On a trip to the UK in 2014, ,we took the bus from Poole to Exeter along the coast. The bus route went right past the site of West Bay station, so were able to see it from the bus. I believe that bus route is now discontinued, but we also went from Beer to Weymouth on the same route in 2010. A lovely part of the country. Coming originally from Bournemouth we used to regularly visit Swanage and Weymouth, but never got as far as Bridport. Now semi-retired in Picton, South Island, New Zealand.

Great video, good to learn the history. We holidayed just behind the station last year

From my visits to the area in recent years, along with the live webcam at West Bay, l think the branch being reopened would benefit the area and reduce road traffic

Nice video - I was going to mention that I saw the line in 1975 but I see your correction here.

I try with the details, but there's something that's mildly incorrect. Thank you though.

What a pleasure to watch, such a shame they didn't preserve the permanent way in it entirety, same goes for other lines like SDJR etc
