Wen 2250 Watt Inverter Generator Model 56225i Review

Is it powerful enough? More power means more weight and less portability. Lets just say that it will easily power a 5000 BTU air conditioner, run my well and keep a small refrigerator cold. That's all I need to survive the next big one!

    From the roar I heard it sounded like you entered fuel off shutdown with the high electrical loads applied. According to the manuals of every generator they warn you to never shut down the engine or let it run out of fuel with a load applied. Reality is it happens a lot . . . even to me, indoors about 3am, as I was getting ready to refuel it. What I saw in hurrying towards the RPM cycling sounds with the red 2Gal plastic gas container was the house lights going from dim to WAY over-bright from the voltage spikes, then I quickly shut it off as fast as possible. Fortunately, the brief but high voltage spikes did not damage anything on 120V. I'd like to add to what Manufacturers recommend for end of session shut downs: 1- Remove all electrical loads. 2- Allow the engine to run a few (5) minutes to stabilize (reduce) hot engine (!muffler!) and alternator stator winding heat. 3- Shut off fuel valve. 4- Turn on Eco for 4 minutes more, where less frequent and smaller amounts of fuel burned further cool down the engine castings and the mufflers stored exhaust heat, then shut off the ignition. The manuals tell you not to turn it off in Eco mode likely because the throttle may not go to the full throttle stop, necessary for initializing the throttle stepping motor, but it easily goes to full on all my Wen, Champion and 2 Yamaha Inverter Gennys. 5- Steps 2, 3 & 4 above are very necessary to prolong the service life of most components (plastic, rubber, electronic) that are fully enclosed inside the plastic enclosure. Even the gasoline in the tank gets overheated! 5- If it's going to be transported or stored, Drain the carb float bowl, tipping the unit towards the drain hose corner spigot to get it all. Those fuel shut-off "shutdowns" still allow a small 10% volume of fuel in the float bowl that over time will dry out forming a gummy tan/brown deposit. It will be partially dissolved the next time it runs, possibly clogging the tiny pilot jet which will then cause RPM cycling at light loads and wavering weakness with medium loads. Then you need a carb clean. 6- Finally, on 1 cylinder engines, pull the recoil starter s-l-o-w-l-y until you feel resistance of the compression stroke, then stop just when it gets easier, getting very close to TopDeadCenter . That closes both intake and exhaust valves, protecting the cylinder walls from temp swing induced corrosive condensation on rainy days.

    I just ordered one myself. Our power is being turned off from time to time up here in Northern CA, due to our power company being accused of starting a few major fires from downed lines where several died and whole towns burned to the ground. So they aren't taking ANY chances. As a result, there isn't a generator for sale within 300 miles of where i am. Called Harbor Freight and they were getting a shipment in a few days but I had to be there very early A.M because they would be gone less than an hour. Tried ordering a Westinghouse, but they aren't allowed in California, so after doing some research i decided on this model Wen. It'll be for the house - refrigerator, computer, TV and a few lights. Thanks to your video, I feel I made a good choice. Thanks.

    I'm in the same situation. Have you tried it out? Any indication of how long it will last on a tank of gas? (The only thing I really NEED to run is my refrigerator.)

    @@leavingitblank9363 - I have run mine a few times, but not for long. What you're running has something to do with how long a tank of gas lasts. If all you need to run is the refrigerator, You could run it for an hour or two. Then unplug the from the generator and turn it off, refill and start it back up in a few hours because your fridge will stay cold that long at least. Good luck!

    You should be able to run your 13,500 ac. I have one and it runs about 12 amps or 1,400 watts. I doubt your ac is 2,500 watts that would be 20 amps.

    The camper is 19 years old and the compressor may not be as efficient as a new one. Especially the initial start up current. It takes out the generator circuit breaker every time.

    Did you ground it?

  • @rockpaperstone8722

    @rockpaperstone8722

    25 күн бұрын

    It is grounded internally. The camper ground is same point electrically via the ground lug through the camper AC cord. If a short should occur while the generator is running, the overcurrent will be sensed through either the camper's breakers or the generator's breakers depending on which is the fastest. You are insulated from the generator's output by the plastic surrounding the generator. Same is true while you are inside of the camper. In fact, inside of your camper there is an extra level of protection offered if you are using an outlet that is ground fault protected.
