    Yep, Chet is gonna solely run the 5 for a team with great guard play, whilst I expect Wemby to be creating a lot more for himself and play both the 4 and 5, I expect Chet to have a much more efficient start to the season

    Pop even admitted that they have no idea whether Wemby should gravitate more towards the perimeter or the paint. With his skillset and size, he could play anywhere from SF to C, maybe switching moment to moment. Wemby himself has often compared basketball to performance art, so there's going to be mistakes and wrong paths along the way.

  • @classthoreau3541

    @classthoreau3541

    Yeah, Pop has been hammering the "we want Wemby to be Wemby" line since they drafted him. I think part of that is that Wembanyama has admitted to becoming despondent when former coaches tried to define his role too strictly. He's said he's tried to grow from that (and to be fair he was a obviously a teenager when it happened), but even Duncan described playing under Pop as "he gives you a role and you have to fight your way out of it" so it's good the Spurs have this mindset. Ultimately, I think the idea is that Victor is a thoughtful, driven person and if they let him discover what does & doesn't work for himself, it'll then be easier to help him under the dynamic of "what should I change?" rather than "you need to change this."

They’re already going to be a statistical anomaly if they can play for a few healthy seasons considering their height and frame.

    With all due respect to these two up and coming talents, no chance they become the next Magic vs. Bird. No chance in hell. Whatever rivalry they form won't come close to what we had with the two living legends that are Magic and Bird. That's a rivalry that can't be touched by anyone. That said, I look forward to seeing where their careers take them. And I hope to see them both live up to and potentially exceed everyone's expectations.

    Totally agree Bird and Magic went to the conference finals in their first year with Magic winning his first year and Bird would've met Magic there but Bird ran into Dr J. The bar was set too high !
