So trying Shea Moisture again only became a thing because as y’all know, I recently moved. Digging through my closets, I stumbled on a few products from the coconut custard line. I was OBSESSED when I heard of them the first time. Snagged two products from Target like 3 months ago….and then never used them (cries in product junkie)
Felt a lil bamboozled, not gonna lie, by the gel-oil. I truly thought it was a custard, but nope. It honestly did nothing for my hair but add shine.
The curl primer was AMAZING. Moisture on point. Slip on point. Smell on point. But with the gel oil, it didn’t really amount to anything but frizzy (still moisturized) hair.
I guess I'll stick to the rainbows and rivers that I’m used to on this one.
My fave products from shea moisture continue to be:
Manuka Honey and Mafura Oil Intensive Hydration Hair Masque: amzn.to/3cfzeOe
Coconut and Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie: amzn.to/3ccYYun
Have you tried these products on your natural hair? Let me know how they worked for you/what you did for them to work down below!

Shea Moisture hair stuff is like that sneeze that won't come. It's always just on the edge of doing what it should. The shampoo almost cleans my scalp, the conditioner almost provides enough slip, the custards and gels almost define and hold, etc etc.

Hey Will, first time commenting!! I was viewing some of your past videos and you were discussing putting water on your hair. You mentioned using warm water prior to adding the leave-in conditioner and/or combing through your hair. I am 71 retired Grandma and truly have learned quite a few new things from you. I have even purchased the shower water filter. Suffering from alopecia but seeing some fuzzy hairs coming back. The Honey and Sage deep conditioner and Growth oil arrived today. Will please do a thick hair growing dance for me. Blessings Always Ms. P.

@@s.o.s-5714 Yeah! Paul Mitchel their original line is a very good brand for a very reasonable price point. I have used the detangler since I was7 years old. The formula has changed a little since I was that young (that was 23 years ago) but not much. I also LOVE Design Essentials.Their avocado line, their scalp line, all awesome products. Both of those lines have great shampoos and conditioners. I like design essentials for styling products, I dont like paul mtichell for them as well. Although the supercharged moisturizer is a great elasticity treatment. Both lines can be purchased at Ulta. I use Aquage Silkening Conditioner for a deep conditioner. Before you @ me about the price lol, a little bit goes a long way and that ish WORKS.Also can be purchased at Ulta. I also like Mielle, thats what i'll use if I'm on vacation and I have to buy products. AG is also good (Sold at Ulta), a little pricy but their original moisture line is good. I think the smoothing conditioner is just so so. I also swear by jamaican castor oil. I like Thirsty Roots apricot oil. If there is anything you search/buy from what I named. Its the castor oil. Its thick but not too thick and the smell is nice

My hair used to love Shea moisture. Especially the purple line. I stopped using it and started again a few months later. Then my hair started getting dry and breaking and losing its curl pattern. Even after I moisturised, my hair was still dry. I thought my hair was damaged just because. Then I big chopped, my hair has grown back and I started using Shea moisture and it started doing the same thing. Stopped using it and trimmed and now my hair is soft and moisturised and the curls are doing great. I almost bought it yesterday, but I remembered.

AYO JOY no problem! First off, I’m just now really getting the hang of it, so there’s still room for improvement. Honestly, all I do I use really REALLY warm water and cleanse my scalp (grease leaves build up) and usually that’s all I need for it to clean my hair as well. Sometimes I go back and do a second shampoo, to make sure it’s super clean. If you use grease, make sure you use a shampoo with sulfates. It’s a necessity to get the grease out. It’ll be your best friend Lol. Then, I deep condition because I have low porosity hair and I need all the moisture I can get, before I use any type of sealant. If I’m not in a rush, I keep the deep conditioner for about an hour. If I have things to do, I use a blow dryer to heat it up, for about 5-ish minutes. After that, I rinse it out and use a regular conditioner and detangle. Usually by this step, the hair is super easy to comb through. Honestly, I can do most of my detangling with the shampoo. I just choose to wait until the conditioner step, because it doesn’t pull my hair. After detangling, I rinse it out and I try to keep my hair as wet as possible. I use my water bottle with really warm water in it while I section my hair use a little grease, or Vaseline, in my hair, then twist it. Make sure to do so while your hair is super saturated with water. Grease is a super sealant. I hope all of this rambling made sense and I was able to help you in any way!

Aleah B. When they were sold, the old formulations were phased out. Now before this SheaMoisture had products that everyone raved about and loved. When the formulations were changed, people immediately noticed that things were not the same. Products were not working as well as they used to, if they were working at all. Essentially SheaMoisture’s new owners screwed over the base, which was mainly made up of black people, specifically black women. Now these same women who got SheaMoisture to the pedestal that it was on at the time, were tossed aside. New management assumed that these women would just stay with the company, and not react as they did, which was to stop using their products. All these changes were supposedly made to be inclusive, but in reality they were just stupid business decisions. SheaMoisture screwed over their base, the people who gave them the majority of their business, for the hope that non-black women would then decide to buy from them. However, in doing so they made sure to alienate their base, so even if they get enough people to replace the ones that they drove away they are not actually making any more money. Not to mention that SheaMoisture had 20+ hair lines. The smarter decision would have been to add a few more lines to draw in the new customers they wanted. If they did this they could have kept the formulations that people loved, thus catering to their base, and have possibly gained new customers. Overall, SheaMoisture gained nothing but the loss of revenue and the disdain of the people who made them what they were.

As a youtuber who has her bed in the background at the moment, I'm looking forward to that. I appreciate the good work shea moisture does for the Community but they almost ruined my hair. I kept trying the product because I wanted to support them. And I kept hoping it would work, but I got nothing but dry hair that broke. The product irritated my scalp, gave me dandruff (thank God for ACV) and made me break out on my forehead. Let us take some time to appreciate the edits of this video, cc that Hannah Montana clip at the end.
