Wells run dry in India as scorching heatwave and poor infrastructure worsen water crisis

Wells are running dry in India as a scorching heatwave with temperatures over 45 degrees Celsius sweeps the country. Women in affected villages must collect water by hand daily. The water level in wells has fallen, forcing reliance on government trucks for water refills. Water is also being diverted to major cities, worsening the local crisis. Despite local pleas, the water crisis is expected to worsen due to increasing demand and unsustainable groundwater depletion.
Al Jazeera’s Imogen Kimber reports.
Ranjan Panda is the convenor of the Water Initiatives Network in India. He joins us from Sambalpur in the state of Odisha to discuss this.

Please dig swales, level (very important) in the hillsides around the wells you want to replenish. Start them 1/3 of the way down from the top of the hill and continue more going down, not up the hill. This will encourage rain water to soak into the ground and replenish your ground water reservoirs. Have faith and be patient. Have a great day! ✌️

That's absolutely correct. The reason we are now facing abrupt climate change and extinction is because of overpopulation (the Earth can sustain 2-3 billion people and currently has 8 billion), unbridled laissez faire capitalism, greed, and over consumption. A deadly combination.

Another 629 girls and women from across Pakistan were sold as brides to Chinese men and taken to China. The list, obtained by Associated Press, was compiled by Pakistani investigators determined to break up trafficking networks exploiting the country's poor and vulnerable. But investigation has now been halted by Pakistan in fear of endangering their lucrative ties with China. According to the Chinese government, state sponsored £laves trade is to combat demographic dividend & sexual frustration experienced by Chinese workers for their inhumane working condition. 🙏🙏🙏

Indians are kind of idiots. to solve the flood they increase the drainage rate, and because of the high drainage they die of thirst. They are a kind of idiots who build cities where a kind of dam should be built. And because of this drought. They will collect thousands in taxes to build metal saints to ask for good rains from some deity.

Yeah, we need to replace failing water infrastructures and put limits and regulations geared towards the biggest water conservancy in history and technological innovation to be able to clean up polluted water. We need to put big limits on excesses or at least incentivize individual people or households to minimize water usage. It should be that way with auto usage too. Less you drive the more the government can pay you if you’re under a certain income bracket. Might help us get more time to innovate.

1.4 billion population lives on one land, your river must be free, clean and unpolluted as a source of drinking water. There is no need to discuss all aspects, just determine that the river is sacred as a source of drinking water, therefore the river must be free from all aspects that cause water pollution. For sanitary water drainage, etc., it is best to create a drainage canal that is separate from the flow of river water. That's all you have to do if you want a healthy and sustainable life.
