Hello Mike, thank you for the info on the electronic throttle body reset. I had to change out the intake plenum on a Buick Rendezvous 3500 v6, I got a used plenum from a local yard, cleaned, and changed all gaskets and butterfly 'O' ring. Got everything back together and made one simple mistake. That was ''I didn't connect my 13-wire connector to the throttle body and started the engine. I was not a happy camper, I saw your video on testing front ABS sensors on a Buick vehicle and the test equipment you use. So I decided to watch your videos from now on. I'm going to attempt to do the relearning process and get let you know. Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.

I've had good luck with the kit and the idle relearn went great with all but one. It would high idle and if I put it in gear it would idle down and stay there until I blipped the throttle and the high idle would come back. Cleared the KAM several times no luck. Drove it and every time I went to slow down it was at high idle, come to a stop and idle would return to normal idle, hit throttle and high idle. It had the high idle when it came in before the TPS was changed. Reprogrammed the PCM and car idled perfectly and it was the only thing that made sense. If you ever run into it there are several forums like iATN, Suretrack, etc where the fix is reprogram the PCM

  • @GoTechTraining

Hey, on a drive by wire system if the TP sensor is not reacting properly it will put the vehicle in limp or reduced power mode. This will not allow you to accelerate the vehicle. Chances are you have an issue with the TP sensor, wiring, or the throttle body itself. You could try cleaning the throttle body and seeing if that helps first. Jeff. you can safely do it. I highly recommend unplugging it first. Shut the key off, unplug the throttle body, then clean it. Those motors have a ton of torque and could cause bodily harm...better to be 100% certain there is no power going to it! Mike Becker, Technical Services Instructor

Hey Reweydewy, I don't think there is any significant wear. At least none that is currently affecting operation. This car has been back on the road now for about a month and a half, and no reported issues. I do see what you are seeing, where the black gear does look slightly worn. I would assume a new one to not show that at all. Should any problems arise down the road with this car I will make sure to shoot another video detailing on wear on the black gear. I also will keep my eyes open for more of these and see how they look. Mike Becker, Technical Services Instructor

Don;t have an oscilloscope wave form picture. On-board diagnostic tool did not pull up a throttle body code. Remember, this was the Toyota corolla 2000, that repeatedly kept pulling PO171 leans code. We fixed it; it was intake manifold gasket; the code disappeared for 3 months. Same code came back PO171 because the fuel pump was weak losing pressure; so P0171 was a deferring false code pointing to fuel pump; fuel pump was replaced and along with was another pre-existing symptom. I had failed to tell you at that time, about a consistent soft infrequent hesitation, while idling and driving; head lights powering down, then brightening; power high while driving, then slight lose of power jerking the car while driving; this is the throttle sensor. I floored the throttle, after testing new fuel pump with fuel pressure gauge on, it worked to SPEC PRESSURE WAS 45lbs, THEN IT JUMPED TO 55LBS, it wanted to start; it was hesitating, so I floored it, the accelerator. I heard then, a loud sound, like switches; it shut down like a kill switch activated; it was the throttle sensor and possibly the the vane kill switch inside the mass air sensor. The sounds came from the center of engine and under driver side kick panel. where I found an after market kill switch. Since then, the car was able to crank however when the anti-theft circuits kicked in, it blocked the starter relay from cranking. I drain the ecms receptors capacitors erasing the anti theft memory, so it cranks now but will not start because of this throttle sensor. My the thermistors read 5v reference communication with ecm works, it is not dead, like I thought. Its great to see you again. I have been studying my old mechanics and circuit integrity books enjoying continued education at home. I have appreciated the value of the scope you use even more then ever; the amp and volt meters too, very much. And most of all your classes and videos! I would love to train with you seriously now!

Hello Mike, The scanned tool pulled up an open circuit relay pending code, that feeds the fuel pump. I don't know how to test the relay under load? On that same wire leg before the fuel pump is the neutral safety switch,it shares the ground to fuel pump, which is not working in park, it only cranks in neutral. All three components share the ground; perhaps I am wrong the relay open circuit is on power side. There're 2 fuses in engine fuse box both diagonal from each other, both 10 amps, they are undamaged without power, the horn and head light. Inside, under the dash fuse box is an ignition fuse, with asterisks, also 10 amps undamaged without power. The throttle signal wire voltage is 12.36v short to ground. I am just learning how to do voltage drop test to ground with meter neg terminal on bat neg to check ground side; negative terminal to battery positive, to test power side of the load. its confusing to mind blending concepts causes confusion. It is so cold out, intolerable to work outside. The battery is out of car on a trickle charge however will the ecm forget or remember, when battery is installed or will it fall asleep and not wake up? Do I need to relearn the ecm and how is it done? Respectfully, AG

The throttle body attached to the air filter housing will remain open until the engine exceeds 2500 rpm. When the engine exceeds 2500 rpm, the throttle will close to redirect air into the supercharger. The 2.3 Kompressor engine has a dedicated throttle body for normal air intake attached to the intake manifold. Your Supercharger (Kompressor) air bypass throttle body is working normally in this case.
