Well that took a while! - Arrival in Carriacou, Grenada [Ep 32]

It only took 6 weeks to make this episode!! Sorry about the hold up!!
Following from our run from hurricane Isaac we arrive in the island of Carriacou, Grenada. After checking in to the country we explore our new surroundings as we know we're going to be here a little while to wait out the rest of hurricane season. During our exploration of Hillsborough, the main town on the island, we get in touch with a fantastic local dive shop, Deefer Diving (deeferdiving.com - which we can't recommend enough!!!) and under the fantastic tutor-age of Lani, our travel buddy and dive instructor, we head under the water for a few days of diving!

    Hey Guys, while diving in the Caribbean, whenever you encounter a lion-fish (like in your video) try to harvest it or at least kill it. They are an invasive species that are creating a lot of havoc on our coral reefs since they are voracious feeders and have no natural predators that keep their population in check. (They are also quite tasty and hace a supreme white meat.)

    Drill a hole in the top of that outboard engine cover...something sized so you can put a rubber plug in it. Thru that hole you can put a socket on an extension and use a 18V cordless drill as a electric starter.

    There have actually been quite a few studies done on sharks, and there feeding trigger response. Bright colors do trigger they're feeding response yellows and oranges. There's actually kind of an off-color term among marine biologist who studies sharks they refer to this color as "yum yum yellow". If this is your concern, some of the spear fishing camouflage wetsuits would probably be best. I personally wouldn't have any yellow or orange on any of my gear for this reason, after seeing some of the video footage from the studies. There has also been some really interesting research regarding rare earth magnets. These magnets placed on or near bait items, even when the bait item is on the other side of a barrier from the magnet. when the shark encounters magnetic field it is so strong that it overpowers the sharks electrical detection system, and the shark is very abruptly deterred from the bait item even when it is very hungry. :-)

    These rare earth magnets do not seem to have any effect on fish that do not have an electrical receptor system. Look it up I found a few videos on KZread.

    I remember watching another channel where the diver wore fluro orange shorts and kept getting chased by a barracuda. There's also a video online of the Australian couple that shot the shark scenes for Jaws where they put a fluro orange lifejacket on a dummy and the sharks went after it but ignored a black swimsuit. I think it might be the colour of blood in the water that attract predatory fish, so best not be that colour. :)

    I'm not sure if this has been said before, but I would make sure your outboard on the dingy starts before you untie from the sailing vessel. Don't want to float off with no oars in the dingy.

    Hello guys, great vids! I subscribed because I’m interested in the boat and how she sails. I have a tendency for seasickness so motion comfort is important to me. Based on what I’ve seen, the Tayana 42 seems to hobby horse quite a bit regardless of her weight. Is this truly the case or am I just catching the videos where things are extra rough? Are either of you prone to sickness and has it been an issue on your boat?

  • @SailingMillennialFalcon

    @SailingMillennialFalcon

    5 жыл бұрын

    Tayana 42 has one of the highest motion comfort ratios I saw when looking at boats (google boat calculator). Often double modern boats. But it’s a very subjective metric hard to compare unless your swapping boats same day same conditions. Thus far she’s been wonderful, though I’ve not taken another boat through quite as much as Milly.
