A Night Sail to Grenada Ep 20

In this episode we leave Martinique at midnight and head south towards Grenada with a quick stopover in Bequia. We go for a mission in the mangroves of Grenada's most northern island - Carriacou.

You missed a great yachty bar and the south, east end of Union. Turquoise is a great color for Dani.

@ 8:27 Hello Dani, Asher. What do you do with the Y section of poly-pipe, so cleverly attached to the starboard capshroud? Thanks. The great sailing conditions we see in this video does beg the question, who thunk up the idea of arranging a set of interesting islands in a gently curving, north-south string, with consistent east to west winds, located right where the weather is lovely in winter-time? Only one design mistake ...

Haha good question. It’s just a very cheap, makeshift GoPro holder so we can film. Imagine if there was a string of islands like the windwards ALL the way back to New Zealand!!

Enjoying the videos as they are honest and do not only show all the picture perfect side of this lifestyle. Question for you, what method do you use for your twin headsails when sailing downwind as in your Atlantic crossing? Is it 2 x roller furlers?

Hi Lee! We only have one roller furler, we have created a removable inner forestay with dyneema and hank on our second headsail to that when we’re sailing goose winged. Two roller furlers would be so much easier though!!

@@sailingbacchushome944 thanks as we are thinking of putting 2xheadsails on our foilet as it has 2 grooves... Although our plans may have changed now as we may stay here in the canaries for a few years and then head back to the UK as we have a dog also and the Atlantic crossing would not be fair on him and hear that not all Caribbean places are dog friendly.

How well does your wind vane self steering work to wind ward ?

Awesome to see you guys living the dream, but I have one question. Isn't a solid yellow flag supposed to go up before check-in and then after successfully checking in put up the country courtesy flag?

Robert thanks for watching! There are a couple of different opinions on this. I think mostly in the US they do as you have mentioned but we put both the courtesy flag and Q flag up first, (with the courtesy flag highest) and remove the Q flag once we have cleared customs and immigration. We haven’t had any issues with this yet so I think it’s ok 🤞🏼

Hello , love your videos keep them coming. I am curious on the time line of this video regarding the lock down every where. Was this done before the current problems or are you not restricted. Look forward to the next one. Regards Tony

Hi Tony, at the time of this video being filmed there was no lockdowns but the virus was starting to make its mark in Europe. During the course of our 3 day sail to Bonaire (which is our next episode) Trump closes his borders to Europe and the lockdowns begin. Currently we’re in Curaçao, sitting lockdown on our anchor and waiting for information on when and where we can move.
