The only one I wasn't familiar with is, "as keen as mustard". I live in the US and use all of these sayings except for "Bob's your uncle" and "as keen as mustard". We'll go see a man about a horse instead of a dog.

I’m surprised that in italy we also use some of your old fashion phrases: “A little bird told me” and “pardon my french” translate perfectly in italian. To say “to turn a blind eye”, we say “to close an eye”! “Pot calling the kettle black” makes perfect sense in english; in italian we have the same phrase but with different subjects that make more sense with our cultural heritage: we say “the ox calling the donkey horned”. “The apple of someone’s eye” translates to “the light of someone’s eye”, and so forth. Seeing these similarities although we speak different languages is fascinating.

In Russian and Ukrainian languages we also use "pardon my French" the same way as in English. I wonder where are the roots of this phrase...

I've viewed this lesson countless times and quite frankly it never gets old❤
I actually liked the idea of a video on vintage insults. I would love to see that. Love you and love your channel.
We say “a little bird told me” and “pardon my French” in Italian too! And there’s an idiom similar to “pot calling the kettle black” that is “il bue che dice cornuto all’asino” (literally “the ox calling the donkey horned”)
WE WANT MORE FANCY OLD-FASHIONED ENGLISH !!! Thank you, Lucy :)
Yes Lucy. It's a different topic, but I love the old British phrases and want to learn more from you
A fully vintage soul . Love this season !
Lucy you're absolutely amazing at what you're doing, especially when it comes to explaining phrases and idioms.I find your lessons very helpful for my exams.I would love to see another video about classic phrases like this one if you don't mind.Love you and your work.
I loved to watch your videos. A little bird told me that the sound of this video is a little low.
My dearest lucy you are the apple of my eyes. I love you for your beautiful teaching style. Thank you so much.
Hi, Miss... I watch your videos every night before I go to bed... Watching your videos helps me a lot not only as an English teacher but also as a person... 💖💖💖 You're an inspiration to us..
« The Apple of my eye » in French it’s « the plum of my eyes ». I love your videos, it’s such a pleasure to learn English with you ! 🥰🥰

Yes, in Germany we have a similar expression 😊!
I loved this lesson! Thanks so much! I learned a ton that I can share with my students (I'm an English teacher in my country). But out of all the expressions that I learned, the one that I loved the most, and that I will definitely will include in my speech, was that subtle, saucy yet powerfully expressive "make of that what you will" at 5:09, which was not even in the list, but I totally fell in love with it.
Dear Lucy!!! You are a intangible cultural heritage of the English language!!! Your classes are the best; congratulations from Brazil!!!
Love the video! I am a Southerner in the US and we grew up saying all but 3 of the phrases ( keen as mustard, see a man about a dog and Bob’s your uncle)😊
"The apple of my eyes " ...here in Italy is...the light of my life!!!.😍😍 i love your videos Lucy 💖💖💖
Hi! I love your videos! I would be so happy to watch a video with vintage insults! Please do it, it would be so fun! My British husband love how I use idioms that I learned from you. Thank You for your videos, you are great!
I love all this original British Englishness thank you Lucy, and insults, yes please
Thanks for your expertise in this language and enable most of us to improve our skills
Absolutely loved this lesson, Miss Earl. ❤❤
Wow! Very informative and knowledgable.Thanx a ton❤❤❤
Ma'am I really love your videos... They are so informative. Thank you so much for this. GOD BLESS
« Pardon my French » as a French girl studying to be an English professor, I found it hilarious 😂 Plus « the apple of my eye » has an equivalent in French it’s : « la prune de mes yeux » : The plum of my eyes.

Hi Lucy, Wonderful lesson about English phrases. I learn many new phrases with your lesson, I admire you. Thank you.
I could listen to your accent all day Lucy x
It's fantastic, we need more videos like this because I feel lost when my friends use phrases in their conversation... pleeeeeease!!!
OMG Lucy! I've just realised... we have done a bit of journey together!!! I arrived in England three years ago without having any knowledge of the english language and so I have subscribed to your channel and have watched (I guess) all of you videos. I love them by the way!! Today it hits me, you have been with me in this adventure from the begining... I remember the first time I heard "Bob's your uncle you've made a cup of tea" and that was three years ago in your video. So, thank you Lucy for all the laughs, knowledge, love of the english language you've shared with us. You are an amazing teacher!!!!
We learn something new with Lucy every time she posts a video. Half of these, I've heard before, but the others I've found very amusing, especially the last "Bob's your uncle" which I find hilarious!
I adore you Lucy😍😍 I wish becoming as fluent as you!
I know from time to time is nice to have compliments, so I wanted to tell you that you inspired me to become a teacher myself and that I'll start my celta training on July. Thank you!
Loved it! Really learned something new today thanks to you, lovely Lucy! By the way, when I was a kid, adults used to say "un pajarito me contó... " here in Chile, which is the exact words and meaning of "a little bird told me". I think the expression is still in use.
Thank you so much for uploading this video. It is helping me to get through the pandemic!
Lucy spoke out her last phrase BOB'S YOUR UNCLE and I just time travelled !!! Time travelled to 3 years back when I heard this for first time and to my english class in school , when I spoke this phrase out during discussion and even my teacher noted it down in her diary ! Thanks Lucy for all your lessons!😊😊
Thank you so much Lucy. I like each and every video lesson of you.
It's a delight to see you and your amazing style alone !
Oh I loved your video, Lucy! I learn English as my second language and you really help me ❤ And I would love a video about old-fashioned insults 😁

Once upon a time, a little bird told me that miss Lucy is a most beautiful teacher in the world
Thanks for this gorgeous lesson. I love those old phrases and a little birdie told me you'll probably indulge your audience with a similar one some not too far day.
Hi Lucy! your videos help me a lot! thanks for everything!😍💞 I'm Alejandra, from Madrid, I'm 15 years old and I'm going to study in England for 1 trimester, I'm also doing the first in my school and you're helping me a lot💖💖💖
Thanks so much Lucy for giving us this opportunity to get through English culture
Loved this video. I was so glad when I saw it. So, as well as I suggested this idea on the live streaming from March, please do the old-fashioned insult video.I'm looking forward to seeing it !!!!

This is an interesting one Lucy. Literature and language goes hand and hand. Among all you have mentioned my favourite are 13 and 15. Have a wonderful rest of the week ✨🌠

Hi Lucy, thank you for all the useful videos you have been making. I would like to recommend making some videos about conditional sentences that British people use in everyday life. Several different types of conditional sentences. Cheers!
This is the best lesson ever❤❤love you💞
I love your videos. It made me more interested in British English❤
You are always being so informative!❤️
Loved it gal ❤ Can you make another one of these kind of videos with British phrases?
Thanks for the video Lucy 😊
Love you, thanks for everything ❤️
I've never heard of a lot of these, very useful video! I use "turn a blind eye" quite often, which is the only one I use out of these.
That's a very interesting lesson, I have to say that I'm a huge fan of the British accent.. especially the English idioms "Shakespearean age"!. I'd really like to see a video about (not insulting words) but some commonly formal/informal phrases Brits use. Thanks for making these videos btw, you're doing us a huge favor!
Oh wow! So many of these I've never heard of, in Canada we say some of these but others we say differently, thanks for making this video, loved it!
Thank you for your lessons. It's really useful. Could you please help to understand the meaning of 'familiar'?
Such an interesting video 💛 Soo happy that I found your channel am over the moon 🌚 ✨💛
"A little bird told me" we have this phase in Portuguese too, exactly the same words "Um passarinho me contou" and means the same .
Wauuuu, during your lesson today, you became the apple of my eyes Lucy, You looked to be so amazing!
Very interesting lesson. Thank you.
I don't know what to say that was awesome thank you so much about this interesting video
Thanks a lot, i enjoyed your videos always.
thank you so much for this lesson.

Lucia can you talk to me in English. If you don't mind.
I'm from the US and I would say that I have used at least 14 of these phrases, but I'm also closer to 50 years old. Nice video and you are very witty lady.
The theme is AWESOME!❤❤❤
Oh how I loved watching this!! Only 2 I didn't grow up with, keen as mustard and Bob's your uncle, but I think I'll start using them with my grandsons!!! I already use the others here and there!!
I use almost all of those except for the last one. I have to admit, I never heard of that one. Love the old idioms.
Great lesson.
That a lot of new things to learn! I only knew the apple of my eye, in Poland we say "the eye in my head" (eye said in cute way) "oczko w głowie" it means the same as in english.
I would actually like to know about old fashioned insults 😂😂 loved this lesson btw
This is very interesting! Thanks a lot for this video!
Very informative ! Great work ! ✌🏻✌🏻
Lucy, this type of lessons is very useful. Although the expressions are not easy, your ability to say the expressions in ' beautiful British English' and to accompany them with exact sentence example makes this lesson great. The beginners and advanced students can learn a lot from your lesson. Please consider to add more example sentences to each of your provided expression. What do you think? To learn this lesson I will need at least several repeatitions to do. Thanks for your efforts. Good job.
I really love your videos. Thank you 😊
Lovely Lucy with a lovely lesson...splendid!
I’m a Yank and I’ve used these expressions for decades- really enjoy your videos though!☮️💜🤘
I'd like to watch that old fashioned insults. Congratulations, your channel is really instructional and entertaining. Greetings from Córdoba
Very interesting, 😮😮😮. I only knew about kicking the bucket, turning a blind eye and a little bird told me. I didn't even know what "Spiffing" was, I had to look it up cos I'd never heard it, I always say "Amazing" instead, now I know. Thank you very much indeed Lucy, you're the best, 😊😊😊.
I heard that mustard idiom a couple of days ago and was puzzled. Thanks, Lucy!
