Zuko’s knife said, “Never give up without a fight.” That’s the same knife that he and Uncle Iroh used to cut their hair at the end of episode 2x1. Sokka also said something similar at the end of Book 1: “If we know anything about Zuko, it’s that he never gives up.” Zuko never gives up. I love how they’re playing the Blue Spirit music during Zuko’s sword fight. Also: Azula always lies. Azula always lies. Azula always lies.

When Zuko left iroh, iroh followed him himself. When toph left her parents, her dad hired two money-desperate moral-less merchants to hunt her and forcefully bring her back home. So yeah toph is right: Zuko IS lucky to have iroh.

There's a really cool piece on that part where they all have Azula surrounded, where it points out that she knows that Sokka is threat. First she targets and hits Iroh, she knows she can't beat him so gets him by surprise, but when she has four strong benders and a boomerang shooting at her, the first thing she does is deflect the boomerang thrown by Sokka because she sees that as the most immediate threat. Sokka's aim is deadly (which is more evident later on) and Azuka knows it, not to mention the strength he would need to throw that faster than bending attacks. There's another part later in the series where she deals with Sokka first because she finds him more threatening than the rest of the Gaang. People may think that non-bendere are far less threatening but given that Azula chooses non-benders as her companions and her wariness of Sokka, she does not underestimate them. Shows interesting parts of Azula's character and how not to underestimate Sokka even if he is the non-bending goofball, he's incredibly intelligent.

He's also the only member of the Gaang who can plan their way out of a paper bag. The rest are great at improvising, but Sokka actually comes up with tactics and thinks further ahead than the next bending move.

I think I've seen ATLA 9 times over and I still enjoy watching people react to the show that basically shaped and saved my childhood this is great

I literally spat out my water when you added "YEET" to Zuko chucking the rock at the turtle duck 🤣

The thing with Azula is that she's constantly been rewarded by her father for her behavior. I really do think her behavior was learned, and it's really sad

At 24:15 With the camera angles, you can see Iroh was distracted, putting together in his head that the girl he met earlier was with the avatar. Azula used this moment to strike

The way he got treated as a child rlly just gets me going man 😫 like I remember them going into his and azulas childhoods a little deeper in the comics and God I thought I wanted to punch ozai before... Also the level of corruption in this family bruh, no wonder they're all messed up Anyway this episode is just soo good and so cruicial to zukos arc and development it's one of my favs!! Ur reactions are keeping me going

Zuko Alone is my favourite episode. it is a thematic masterpiece of characterization and breaking down a character so well. Like this episode is what made me love Zuko so much and see him in a whole new light. A few explanations though I'm assuming you might already know them by now: Zuko's mom (Ursa) left bc she made a deal with Ozai, in exchange for Zuko's life and keeping him safe she would help him get rid of his father (Azulon) so he can ascend the throne (in the comics we got more details that she helped him make a poison). And then he banished her, because he saw her as a threat. Its messed up, poor Zuko.

I don't know why but I absolutely love the scene of Zuko with his mom and he throws a rock at the duckling. It shows what type of person Azula is and it also shows who Zuko is and how he was affected by growing up with her. It just seemed so realistic and chilling but the next part where his mom tackles him and tells him that moms will always protect their children... that was so cute and touching

azula chose to strike iroh because she could tell he was distracted, looking at toph. and in seeing toph a part of team avatar fighting alongside them, that was when iroh realised that aang finally found an earth bending teacher. pretty cool detail

Funny how the knife said never give up without a fight because that’s exactly what the earth kingdoms general of ba sing se did because he surrendered to iroh. I guess that goes to show how promising iroh’s attack was yet he STILL decided to stop when his son died. It shows that if he had wanted to take over ba sing se he COULD have. It wasn’t that he gave up because he wasn’t emotionally stable enough to after his sons death, but rather, because he realized the reason he lost his son was because of the war - something he from then on decided to never take part in ever again.

Honestly, best Zuko quote by a mile: “Never give up without a fight.”

Do not forget Ozai messed with Azula's head since the start, she wasn't born bad, it was all the fire lord's doing

just so you know (in the comic)it said that zuko's mom helped his dad poision the 'then' firelord and was going to be punished in which case she left to go back to where she was from back to her love (zuko's mom and dad were put in a force marriage while zuko's mom was actually in love with someone)

Lee's father: A man's past is his business The Show: *proceeds to show us Zuko's past*

I wanna know Lee's dad's story so badly. He really seems to get Zuko so well and he seems like a guy with a deep and complicated past.

Basically Zuko's grandfather wanted to kill him to teach Ozai a lesson. His mom killed the grandfather and was exiled. (Like the ducks. You mess with the child, his mom will hit you back)

The 4 elements together is still one of my favorite scenes

As someone who has been watching this series for literally my entire life, I don't remember any of my thoughts watching it for the first time as I basically don't remember a time when I hadn't seen every episode 😂 it's really interesting to watch someone else react to certain moments as every plot twist and backstory has been engraved in my brain for as long as I can remember

The title: ...,that got dark FAST Me who doesn't know how to read: ...,that got dark PAST

It's so significant later on that Toph's first knowledge of Zuko is from Iroh. It shaped her entire viewpoint of him and shapes how she reacts to him later on.

Ummh she heard about zuko for the first time from sokka

Basically what’s implied is Ursa killed Azulon to protect Zuko, also assuring Ozai becomes fire lord, but then she had to flee so not to get caught and killed.

The look of pure horror on Zuko's face when Azula said "who's going to stop me? Mom?" And Zuko realizing he's now all alone in the palace with his abuser of a dad and crazy sister is just so heartbreaking 😭

Zuko alone is one of my favorite episodes. It really dives deeper into Zuko’s character and the royal family.

Comics spoilers, does not spoil anything in the show itself (after Zuko Alone): Zuko's mom got banished because she devised a plan to kill Azulon and make Ozai firelord. Ozai had her banished because he was afraid she'd kill him too. Ozai was prepped to kill Zuko, but Ursa didn't approve. But seriously though what is it with firelords and banishing?

There's a lot more going on with Zuko's family and I highly suggest reading the comics after the series ends.

Azula's mother didn't hate Azula but didn't show her enough affection like she did towards Zuko. Yes she pointed out that there was something wrong with Azula but she never acted on it. Maybe in the time she had before her banishment, she could have showed more affection towards Azula and MAYBE it could have made a difference in Azula's character. On the other hand she wouldn't be the cold hearted bad a$$ that she was.🤷🏽‍♀️😂

lol at this point he had no idea of how deep zuko is!! Loving watching this reacts! Love watching people falling in love with this amazing series and seeing other perspectives is great! I watched Avatar like 10 times already and since I was really young. So there are always things that I didn't realized before cause well.. First time I was a kid. But every time I watch Avatar there's a new level that I can absorve of some characters and the story itself. aaaa loving it.

At 17:10 That's the cool thing about Toph's bending style, she used that back hand move to first loosen up and soften the earth in front of her so she can push it forward more easily

In Toph's defense here, she IS contributing her fair share even without helping everybody set up camp. They were clearly capable of setting up on their own before hand, and they do not have to do any extra work to accommodate Toph since she makes her own tent from earth, therefore her attitude, while perhaps not as helpful as it could be, is 100% justified.

5:53 this is actually a very funny joke. Since the earth kingdom is mostly inspired by China (not sure from what time in history) it basically says “made in China”😅

It's practically beat for beat, but I've never seen anyone comment on it.

Ozia and Ursa AKA Zuko and Azula’s dad and mom they positioned the fire lord before Ozia and when Ursa knew that Ozia is gonna kill Zuko she stopped him and because of that Ursa was banished from the nation and they positioned fire lord so Ozai can be fire lord and Ursa spared Zuko’s life.

This last fight took place in the afternoon. They had time to get there. Just not sure how Toph and Unc knew where to go tho
