Welcome To The Print Shop: Navigating the Intricacies of Silk Screening With Randall Pich

Ойын-сауық

Here's a quick recap video of Randall taking us through the process of printing one of Live Fit. Apparels best selling design (Athletic Goods) in a 4 color camouflage color way... There's a lot to it when it comes to silk screening or making a graphic shirt come to life, steps are often overlooked but here Randall explains briefly the steps that usually aren't considered from creating and burning the screens, to choosing and mixing colors to create specific palettes, printing the neck tags, drying the ink, inspection, folding, bagging and tagging the barcodes.... all to prep to be received into Live Fit's inventory management system where it then is ready to be allocated across the market.
A fun fact many don't know about Randall is that he's been in the silk screening game since the age of 15 alongside his buddy Mark Atkins (Rusty Butcher). They use to run a silk screening company out of Marks garage; burning their own screens with light boxes they've built themselves to mass producing on a manual 8 color press. Throughout the years as business brought him back around from a trainer back to the printing world, he'd always dabble himself back to the latest in silk screening, printing and manufacturing.
Fast forward now, having run and grown LVFT. to such a large global scale for more than a decade and multiple other brands he is now helping other companies and brand scale their merchandise using his print shop, expertise, connects and resources with his very experienced team.

Do you see the pros far out weigh the cons of having manufacturing/printing done locally against previous manufacturers overseas? Noticing a lot of brands post COVID make the switch. Looks like the smarter and more reliable move.

I believe there are some misconceptions here, a different things... when it comes to "printing (silk screening") brands no matter the scale, 99% of the time print domestically, it's just something the US is dominate in. We have been printing domestically since we started the brand whether we are printing a few hundred shirts or a few thousand. There's no reason to go overseas when it comes printing. Now, over going overseas is for full cut n sew development, creating the actual silhouette of a blank.... now you can chose to get it all done (print AND cut n sew) over seas or get them blank and print here. It just comes down to how you want to maneuver. The most common misconception as I can see from the other fellow that replied to your comment is that overseas have a high MOQ (minimum order quantity). If you are a beginner and not familiar with the industry you are most likely going to not have the resources or really have to grind hard to get the low MOQ but there are a TON of overseas printers and full cut n sew manufacturers who have low MOQ (a hundred or just a few hundred pcs) at a super low cost. At the end of the day you can go different routes but since we own our own shop we don't see why we'd outsource this haha.

It just all depends, the scenario you mentioned IS common in most brands but for most of the established ones with the right resources get the same price, turn around, low MOQs w/ our fully cut n sew manufacturers.... and again, printing domestically with the right printers should be fairly the same if not a better price point than overseas. I've seen start up brands and even some established brands pay an insane amount for printing etc. AS colour is definitely a reliable blank but cost is through the roof so it depends if they have something so specific that you have use them. There are far more blank companies with 10x better pricing. You def got the concept tho especially what's commonly floating around, but only the case if you aren't really in the industry. Hopefully this clears things up a bit.
