Last year I started studying physics at the age of 36, after 3 years of struggling through working in the healthcare system while getting my degree at evening classes. During orientation everyone told us, that you have to study full time or you'll never finish. I thought: Well you already segregate disabled people like it's a business model, so maybe I try to fight the odds like I'm used to... only to find out that there aren't even enough chairs and they want you to fight for them like in a wet FDP dream. I honestly can't remember the last time I felt worse than in my first lecture and I quit right after that. I'd never treat a person nor a society in my life like they treat you on a daily basis. Only an honest arsehole can win that rat race.

@THEdentist86 - you've misunderstood my comment, which was: universities were designed for young students who can sit on the floor or walk over to the other part of town in a hurry and still have the energy to learn and study. Similarly, we don't put old people into the armed forces, because their bodies can't take that anymore. If universities want to accommodate older students, and many do, they need to redesign their spaces.

You are killing me!! LOL I well remember the Physics building at my University. It smelled of carpet glue, chalk, and sweaty grad students.... with a slight overlay of the specific polyester found in lab coats.
Ugh… as a recently finished grad student this is so real it’s depressing. I’m in social sciences so we don’t even have a coffee machine.

"Did u try turning the Espresso machine Off and On again?"
You're so funny. You should present QI when Sandi Toksvig retires
That’s a coffee machine 🤣🤣🤣

A coffee & water collider, you mean…

Yes, students aren't treated well, but I had just come from my compulsory army service, and university physics didn't seem so bad to me. Finished with a PhD.

@@Achill101 Well congrats! Despite your PhD you did not get the essence of my comment though. Of course a soldier will struggle through this process more easily than anybody disadvantaged. Let's build a society where the universities are full of soldiers. Nothing bad can happen then.

Hilarious. You are the best
Thank god! I had almost forgotten how to speak chipmunk lol
This is good acting. I totally buy the frazzled, shell-shocked egg-head persona.
Thanks for laugh that make me choke
I'm nearsight person ( about -3d ). Over 20 years ago I decided to live life of the stupid one distancing self from intelligent ambitions of some scientists. My goal was and still is to survive not being involved in criminal activities conducted by some scientists and government. Quite long time I'm watching your presentations and I can't avoid conclusion that someone gives you interesting advices. Thanks to my stupidity I survived several assassination attempts. Retired, poor, with the respect of an idiot from surrounding me PEOPLE. Not really happy but determined to reach my goal. You Sabine, looks like, know a lot about this case. By psychologists nearsightedness gives higher abilities to survive in difficult conditions not only for stupid ones but also for scientists. Be happy.
ahahah so funny! Thanks for this Sabine!
Now I know what our physics department lacks, coffee machines. We should have one for every 4 physics majors.
You know the swivel chairs can explode, the shock absorber in the middle is filled with pressurized gas that can launch up through your body! I guess if you're one of the few that's cross registered between medical department and the physics department.. Otherwise I'll stick with my standing desk to try and stay awake.
Hands down the best short on KZread, you so talented Sabine well done
I can feel the C+ in PHYS3201Quantum Field Theory II. Even from this distance, the action is nostalgically spooky.
Keepin it real.
Sabine is following in Albert's footsteps. He was a frustrated comedian too.
Love you Sabine! 😂
Brilliant
Oh 😫 what on earth made her to bully that poor coffee machine 🤔
That's too funny! Thanks for making me laugh so hard on a monday morning.
Absolutely phenomenal.
More?? Yes, more cofee please..from the machine!! 🤣🤣🤣😎
Punch cards, typewriters and facsimile machines. Oh and be sure to clean the lint from your mouse balls... Sabine isn't trying to be funny, she's German she is stating facts.

Why they only used male mice for computers is something I could never understand.... 🤷
Sabine you are so clever and a great performer your character here is just fantastic I love the voice and the wig not to mention your writing.
😂 I love your sense of humor and intellect. You've become my favorite science presenter and one of my favorite KZreadrs. I may be strapped for cash, but I hope you get some benefit in the algorithm from my humble interaction. You're an amazing physicist. The Academia have truly wasted your talents, but the public still benefits. You always make me smile.
Man this channel is devolving fast 😅
My god, your sense of humor is on point here.
I had to watch this multiple times. Coffee machine and uncomfortable chairs. Lol. I love this.
The building was a significant reason why I decided to not major in physics and become an architect instead.
the same in Argentina
“yes! That’s a coffee machine!”…….. we can be thankful for the blackboard. No one knows how many times that would have been repeated otherwise.
For some reason I assumed Sabine would put a spin on "welcome to the internet"
heck, that describes with 80% accuracy the entire Faculty of Physics of Bucharest
I like this bit of "more of her humor!"
Give the stylist a raise! 😂
"Yes. That's a coffe machine" and the depredated building hidden in the far corners of the campus being where the physics department lies seems to be universal Physics experience
I just love her. She’s the gobbledygook eradicator!
I can confirm, during my time at uni during linear algebra, the pillar of a big heavy blackboard gave in, it started collapsing. A bunch of students ran to the front of the lecture room to prevent the teacher being squishef
the most important question in physics of the late 90s: who’s printing his whole dissertation in one run blocking the printer for 2 hours?
Our physics department had to be completely refurbished in the 80s due to leftover radiation
If this was really the 1970s, it would start, "welcome to the physics department, gentlemen. "
OMG!!! Lmfao! 😂 …my dad was a professor. So much truth here! Can’t breathe!❤
The presence of memes has been ever increasing in physics buildings.
This is just fantastic!
My old thesis advisor (chemistry, not physics but spectroscopy so close enough), saw rotting benches in his undergrad teaching lab. The following Monday, they collapsed and needed to be replaced. He was smiling what he said they 'collapsed' over the weekend.
I can still hear the German accent 🤣
It’s not only the 22generations of paper left behind but all those drawers of rocks and dirt and pieces of bugs every school and museum has! Every 20 years or so someone goes thru those drawers and finds something truly amazing that they’d totally forgotten they collected.

I found a box with label "Ciencia random"... :-)
Who would of thought a high speed German accent could sound British, at least to me. That was funny.
Don't touch the blackboard: it shows that quarks are asymptotically free of high energy, now that Leslie has fixed the equation.
I used to clean the coffee machine in the molecular biology lab where I worked years ago. They were surprised how better the coffee tasted after it was cleaned.
What a wonderful and poignant sense of humor she has
" It is O.K. to be a little crazy"
The ending got me...and her 🤣
"Over here is our teaching lab for the undergraduate physics majors. We're proud to say that up to 25% of the vintage experimental equipment will actually demonstrate the intended physical phenomenon from the lesson plan."
[sigh] SOMEONE has been into the helium tank again! 😁
You are amazing!❤ Thank you!
I like those old vending machines that sold coffee, hot chocolate, and chicken soup. Naturally, I tended to go for the chicken soup!
I have the exact perception of the UK's parliament, MPs engaging in political show business as the rest of the world moves politically forward.
Sabine just got discovered by Dark Matter
Lets pay physicists like we pay sportsball players
This is a great sideline. Laughing 🤣
Sabine has discovered the Oldest House from Control
This is why we love you, Sabine. (As a university brat, I know exactly what you are on about!)
