Kyle, it is no tjust the slow charge but what is the actual battery capacity, I believe I did see some dissatisfaction on the range, likely due do to more than less than stellar efficiency but more likely over protected battery (not much usable capacity)
Smart idea to have college students hang out there. When those students graduate and come time for them to get a new car, most likely the first brand that will come to mind will be NIO.

How do you graduate and afford to buy a premium EV?
I think swapping is awesome for 3 reasons: - lots of us, especially in EU or Asia don't really have the option to charge overnight. Spending 30+ minutes charging once every 3 or 4 days got really old when I had my e-Golf - spending less on a car with a 75Kwh battery, but having the option to temporarily upgrade it to a 150Kwh for a road trip, that's really useful. - the car will be more future proof, as "your" battery will not lose any health as you constantly swap and also, batteries with improved chemistry could be added by NIO over time. I bet many Tesla owners would love the ability to just switch to a 4680 pack with no costs whatsoever.
@rogerstarkey5390
Жыл бұрын
First of al, the 4680 Tesla is a different *CAR* Second, if "you" have a "75kWh" battery and like everyone else with that battery, you decide to swap up for the holiday period, that's going to REALLY upset all the drivers who paid up front for the bigger pack but can't find anything but a 75 kWh pack? You haven't thought it through.
@gechichan

@@rogerstarkey5390 How is that a different car with 4680? My gaming laptop is not really a different product after changing the original battery for a bigger one. It just lasts longer now, but the power and features are the still the same. Regarding the availability of bigger packs at swap stations, this was never an issue in my experience when I lived in China and used a ES6 for about 6 months.

I am one of those americans that has invested in Nio though at a very modest level. It's a gamble at this point. Generally, I think their styling will be extremely popular in the US but I don't believe battery swap will be viable in the US. Charging speed and needs to improve. My hope is that their styling and quality will make them competitive outside of Europe.
@HTeo-og1lg

For 90%+ of Americans, swapping will not be a feature worth considering. This is largely due to the norm across the US where overwhelming number of homes have private garage for charging the vehicle overnight. The only places where swapping of batteries is sought after would be the densely urban areas where where garages are public, and densely packed with hundred or thousands of cars, like in Asia, and some parts of Europe.
Great video thanks! NIO is building gorgeous cars and creating an Apple like ecosystem that is going global. I love this company 🚀

There are definitely things to improve in the EU version, but some facts like NIO OS had been awarded in China by Reddot Design 2020, and aspen 3.0 in 2022...so the possible issues in EU market is because of localization that eventually will be fixed. Another thing is Every NIO House is at the same level of luxury, so no, they haven't done something special for Norway, NIO just opened another NIO House. Overall good video, I like that you, as someone from US, are just giving credit, if deserve, and not bashing none sense because is Chinese like many others. NIO is doing everything right,

Say what you like but Battery swap would work like in places like Calgary AB, where many Calgarians live in high rises and time is money in Calgary (they seem to have a lot of it there), likely the same in other Metropolitan cities in Canada.
The VIEWS were 35 when I started watching and 92 when the video completed. ..Dang...
I love it. ❤❤
NIO is going to be HUGE
Here's an honest battery swap opinion!! Cons: - Need of more batteries - Queues if the network is to thin(same goes for fastchargers) - Cost intensive(for NIO) Pros: - Grid stabilization(power storage) - having the option to swap and charge(flexibility) - you have no place for a home charger -> battery swap - no worries about a bad battery - upgradability(switch to a bigger battery for a trip and back), better battery performance without buying a new car - guarantee a longer battery lifetime because of safe charging(40kW)(compensates the need of more batteries?) Pro or con!?: - Not owning the battery - lower initial buying price(+-12,000 - 21,000$) but monthly fee(+- 169$ - 289$) Other facts: - while swapping, the swap station runs a car diagnosis check the car's vitals - Over 14 million battery swaps have been made(reliable) - it takes around 6 years until you paid off the battery with the monthly fees - in addition to the 70kWh battery, NIO added a 75kWh battery with better winter performance - 150kWh battery will probabily come in 2023(800+km realistic)

the good thing about the software not being good is that they can update it and make major changes with ease using ota updates. If it were hardware or build quality issues then it would be a bigger problem. Looking at how much they have improved in the last 5 years on the chinese version from the first es8 to their latest OS I have no doubt they will be able to update their global OS in no time.

Charging fast is only one of the benefits of battery swap. For me I would also always charge at home, but having the possibility to uppgrade the battery would be more important for me. Like when I would need some heavy towing in the winter I would use the 150kwh battery, and during summer I would use the much cheaper 75kwh battery. You can change the battery size every month if you like.
