​@@robertscott8344He did what Rosemary Prinz did when she played Amy Brent on All My Children. She worked on the show to bring in viewers. Michelle Lee reminds me so much of Deena Payne on Emmerdale. They also both have ties to Broadway/The West End.

Bobby's character is so loving. He's the one that loves and is loyal no matter what.

I would agree with you their as well , I felt it didn't get same credit like Dallas or Dynasty got. But Knots landing still lasted 13 seasons, it a could went on to this day even without its big stars. People in the USA forget it Popular both in England and Ireland.

This was the beginning of The GREATEST (Other than Dallas) TV. Show EVER!!

The streaming service that gets these two shows will get a prepaid life time subscription out of me.

joerules829 I believe Dallas is on Amazon but not Prime, so you have to pay for every season. It looks like Knots Lansing is not on Amazon. I don’t think it is on Netflix or Hulu either.

Tv was just the best back in the 1970's and 1980's.

I love the transitional Dallas and knot landing music. Well done.

The three original cast members who were with the show for the entire run in the very first scene together. Only fitting. Huge fan. Watched every episode.

Loved it when Kristen ( Mary Crosby) was in a few episodes of knots landing and jr and Bobby , but was ruined by the dream shower series,of Bobby coming back ruined that series of knots landing that season , because there had Bobby as gone , but loved the early episodes and theme tune of this show never missed a episode when USA soap ruled Friday night and Saturday on BBC 1 now BBC hardly has anything to match

I watched this on a Tuesday on BBC 1 in the 80's, it was great.

Booby was always supportive and loving of Gary & Val. That's why one of their twins was named after him.

This was how the long run began it all that it spun 'Dallas,' off. 14 yrs. of working with families, 14 yrs. of shady decisions, 14 yrs. of investigations, esp. 14 yrs. of the social neighborhood's resident/matriarch, Karen Fairgate MacKenzie, though it was primarily (an ensemble cast), each actor did a good job helping Michele and everybody out.

This show makes me sooo happy!

Back when tv was good. The start of another great show.

0 : 35 I have watched this scene numerous times, but I just noticed the INCREDIBLE-looking '77\'78\'79 Lincoln Continental Mark V in Karen's driveway!! A little mini--tribute to Jock, who drove a '78 blue one all 3 seasons that he was on the show (before passing).

Sid Fairgate owned the local Ford, Lincoln/Mercury dealership, they always drove nice Fords and Lincoln's. When Sid gave Gary a job at Fairgate Motors, he also gave him a complimentary Ford Pinto Runabout to drive. I'm glad Gary was never rear ended in that thing! If you'll remember, after Sid's death, Karen, Abby, and Gary ran the dealership.

Knots Landing was my favorite nighttime soap

Funny how Karen mentions a dog but it was never seen in any of the episodes. Still one of my all time favourite show, wish they’d release a DVD boxset of the whole series.

Karen Allen who played Annie made it big soon after with Raiders of the Lost Ark among other films. No reason she would stay. Not enough $$$.

I hate it when people say Knots Landing outlasted Dallas. Not true. Both shows ran 13 full seasons and one partial season. The 1979-93 listing of Knots Landing is very misleading because Knots Landing only aired one episode in 1979. Dallas actually produced more episodes.

Dallas start 1978 the 4 episodes are season one... After the succes the order a full season and 12 follow them. Also we could say Dallas (2012) are Season 15-17! Funny in this 3 seasoms Gary is more seen then in Dallas(1978);)) okay he was in knots landing! Ps did Kristin made a guest starring ps she move to la!

It actually did 1st episode of Dallas was April 2 1978-May 3, 1991. 1st episode of knots landing December 27, 1979, to May 13, 1993 So Dallas was about 13 years and 1 month and Knots Landing was 13 years and 5 and a half months if you look it that way.

It was the late 70s (1979) when this show started.

Knots Landing ended up outlasting Dallas, becoming the longest running primetime soap in tv history. It ran from 1979 to 1993.

Correction, Dallas ran from April 1978 to May of '91!! I guess that Dallas is the 2nd longest primetime soap in the annuals of American TV! RIP Larry Hagman. I didn't know whether to laugh at him or throw furniture at my TV when he upset the Ewing's or someone else in the show!

@@dalemcilwain Dallas also ran for 14 seasons. Dallas' first season was only five episodes. Some call it a mini-series but it was actually a pilot season (season 1). Dallas even had more episodes than Knots. Dallas had 357 episodes vs Knots (344)

I just re-watched the pilot and forgot how good it was. I think, the last time I saw it, was when I watched the original broadcast, at 7 years old. Dang, that Annie was damaged. I wish there had been more of her antics, through the first season.

I knew bobby was in the knots landing first episode but he really did not do much. In fact it was more or less the same scene that we saw him in the end of a Dallas episode that introduced Garry and Val knots landing. It was still great to see tho. Thanks. Please keep these Dallas knots crossovers coming.

Yes, but maybe they wanted to see how the show would be like without so much references to The Ewings. Also, look at Henry Winkler with the exception of Two Episodes he never appeared on Laverne and Shirley. The biggest irony is that they and Richie Cunningham and his Wife Lori Beth never saw them in Los Angeles. Michelle Lee looks so much like UK Soap Actress Deena Payne who was on the Soap Opera Emmerdale for many years.

I loved this episode.

I remember this episode when it first aired and watched every single episode of it.

Bobby really loved his family and would do anything to help them with their lives and he really cared. He always went out of his way to make sure they're happy. Back in "Dallas" he bought Lucy a new car. On this show he's helping his brother Gary start a new life on "Knots Landing".

The cars back then looked so cheap . Great time to be alive and such a great show!

I thought the “let’s not tell Lucy we’re remarried” excuse as a way of keeping Lucy on “Dallas” was bizarre. How about telling Lucy, but she can’t move to KL because she’s going to school in “Dallas”? Doesn’t that seem more straightforward?

Because they knew that it would be easier for Lucy to stay in Dallas at Southfork if she still thought her parents were separated. Otherwise, Lucy might want to rejoin them, and they knew that Lucy would have a much better life back home with the Ewing family.

Lucy was a college freshman when Knots premiered. Shortly after she got engaged to Alan Beam, then a year later married Mitch. She was already an adult and didn't need to live with mommy and daddy

EXACTLY!!! When Bobby Supposedly Died On Dallas,Val Named Her Son After Him. Then The Next Season,It Was Made That Pam Woke From A DREAM,And Bobby Was ALIVE In The Shower!!! No Wonder When Gary And Val Came Onto The New Dallas That The Twins Bobby And Betsy Were NEVER Mentioned. STRANGE,Dallas And Knots Landing Are A Part Of The Same TV UNIVERSE But Some Characters Are EXCLUSIVE To Knots Landing Or Dallas Only,It Would've Been EPIC If Abby And Greg Sumner Would've Guest Starred On The Dallas Continuation Series!!!

I always like Gary & Val and Richard and Laura's houses out of all the homes in the cul-de-sac. Today's Millennial's would see them as complete tear downs and want McMansion's built in their place.

JR called Val a country hick and then married one of his own when he married Cally. That was when Dallas went downhill. The producers should never have sacked Linda Grey and Victoria Principal and Susan Howard should have not been let leave. Even with JR and Swellen divorced, we could have seen them scheme against each other. Both being equals. Knots Landing had a female JR in the form of Sid Fairgates baby sister Abby. No wonder JR liked her. She was more his cup of tea than Val was. He loved schemers, it's why he liked Kristin so much,until she shot him.

I love how they get Miss Ellie’s decrepit junkyard furniture to furnish a beautiful house! lol The producers really spared no expense to set up a Ewing in their new life! Also, why didn’t Jock and Miss Ellie crossover the way JR, Bobby, Lucy and Kristin did? 🙄😂

I read somewhere Barbara Bel Geddes was opposed to an appearance on the show. I read same thing about Joan Collins not wanting to appear on the Colby’s. Would love to see Barbara and Julie Harris in a scene together.

@@jacker29 Joan Collins not wanting to do the Colby's is 100 percent true. She felt it would confuse views and thought the show was a weak version of there show. I not sure about barbers but I do get the feeling the actress refused to do a cameo too. She could sometimes be difficult and surely they would have had her do at least one appearance otherwise. So yes I suspect its true.

@@jacker29 That would have been a heavy scene. There's so much history between The Clements & Ewings. Sadly enough Lucy never knew her Grandmother. Lucy never belonged there with them. They mean well but they have it hard enough taking care of each other let alone a child. Also here's a funny fact. In The UK there's an Actress who went by the Name of Patsy Palmer who played Bianca Butcher on Eastenders that she played on and off from 1993-present. Her real name is Julie Ann Harris.

Knotts Landing wasnt a true spinoff since the Dallas writers and producers came up with idea for K L first. They just adjusted it to include Gary and Val.

Knots Landing stopped being a Dallas spin-off after the Dallas Dream Season. In Knots Landing Bobby remained dead and Gary's son Bobby was named after Gary's "dead brother". That is why there were no cross-overs as there were previously. Gary hated JR, it was never mentioned by Gary that Ray was his half brother. There was no need to cross over with Bobby being "dead".

In 1981, Gary and Valene move from Texas to California. In 2019, they join the exodus and relocate back to Texas in a Dallas/Fort Worth suburb like Grapevine to get away from overtaxed California.

I just realized the series finales of 1984 both shows Bobby and Karen get shot.

First scene with Karen ---- Even then, the character was pushy as hell, barreling over to insert herself into the neighbors' business and forcing them to come over for dinner. Gary and Val should have immediately fled!!

Her heart was in the right place. It's hard to be the New Family in Town. In the UK after 59 Years, The Soap Opera Coronation Street finally has an authentic Black Family The Baileys. Nobody knew they were "new". One thought Edison aka "Ed" was a Construction Worker not knowing that he had took over The Builder's Yard.

@@MrAlienmagnet LOL. In an early episode of Dallas, one of the 5 "mini-series" episodes, Ray can be seeing petting a dog in front of the Southfork house while talking to J.R. That dog mysteriously disappeared too.

When tv (and families) were still good +.

I'm glad Lucy didn't "live" with them. She wouldn't have felt comfortable in that environment. Also knowing she couldn't spend whatever she wanted to would have been very hard. Also no Cocktail Hour, no High Class Dinners, no driving a sports car she wouldn't have been able to handle it.

I think Karen was a nice neighbor I always love Karen's kids Diana Michael and Eric the kids are knots landing this is my favorite neighborhood knots landing I would love to go to California and visit this neighborhood

Funny thing is that knots landing actually outlasted Dallas and received more critical aclaim

I never understood how J.R, a son could break up a couple like he did and the parents didn’t interfere. Nice that Miss Ellie wanted to do some right for the wrong but I wish they actually had Jock and Miss Ellie more to blame then J.R for Gary and Val’s first failed relationship. Kinda odd that J.R who was probably in his 20’s when the story bible was written would even care so much about who his brother would be with.

I think J.R. manipulated things enough behind the scenes to create the illusion to Jock and Miss Ellie that Gary was at fault, just like he was trying to do in the Dallas episodes that introduced Gary and Valene. When Gary returned to Southfork and tried to patch things up with Val and Lucy, J.R. was setting him up to fail while appearing to try and help him to the family. Val saw through it immediately. That explains why Ellie and Jock didn't do much to stop him. Part of it was Gary's fault, he was weak and his alcoholism didn't help. J.R. used Gary's issues to his advantage. I think J.R. was jealous of Gary and Gary was simply too weak to fight back. He tried to destroy Bobby's marriage with Pam in the very first episode, but Bobby stood up to him immediately.

@@henryoil Well, it was also Pam who stood up to JR. She saw that Ray and JR were setting her up and she blackmailed Ray into backing her up. Val didn't stand up to JR until the third season of Dallas, that's when Bobby and Lucy heard her standing up to JR

JR was a narcissistic sociopath bordering on psychotic tendencies, a bipolar egomaniac with a huge superiority complex. Gary was viewed as the "black sheep", but JR barely had a soul.

I would hate to have a butt-in neighbor like that...

@@EagleArrow not just cul-de-sac we lived on a regular street and all of our neighbors were nosy but not when Dallas or Knots Landing were on!

I just discovered something else. When Gary & Valene got Married on Dallas, Gary's Hair was Short but now it's longer. The Fairgates most notably Karen welcomed Gary & Valene. In 2017 on June 15th a New Family on The UK Soap Opera EastEnders 1985-Present named The Taylors came to town. Talk about Eclectic. Karen The Mother, Bernie who's a Lesbian who got pregnant and lost her Baby, Keanu who got his Boss's Wife Pregnant, Keegan whose Father Mitch came from out of nowhere who abandoned Karen, and Riley & Chatham who are both Autistic and Chantelle whose in an Abusive Emotional Relationship. People were mortified when they arrived.

Why is Bobby wearing a suit and tie to his brother's move-in?

Gotta go dig my home-made dvd set out. I managed to purchase the entire series on dvds from the US to the UK some 15 years ago. Cost me a small fortune too, but it was worth it.

Didn't Karen Allen, Marion Ravenwood from, Raiders of the Lost Ark, appear in the pilot episode as Sid's daughter from a previous marriage? Valene talked to her on the beach

Who would want a house filled with Miss Ellie’s old castoffs? The furniture at Southfork probably wouldn’t look right in that house.
