Welcome to Bangkok, Thailand | DW Documentary
Thailand’s capital city, Bangkok, is unique. This film reveals the best spots: well-known locations, and places off the beaten track.
Our report provides a detailed guide to Asia’s most exciting city. For transportation, visitors and local residents alike can choose from motorized rickshaws, taxis, subways, or the sky train. There are also express boats that ply the Chao Phraya River -- plus long-tail boats, and vessels that make their way through the city's khlongs, or canals. This journey of discovery takes us to the places where Bangkok residents go to rest and relax -- like the island of Ko Samet in the Gulf of Thailand. This is the capital's version of Wannsee Lake in Berlin. You can book a river cruise, or visit one of the trendy open-air bars perched atop high-rise buildings. A lot of younger Bangkok residents have taken up a bold challenge in this car-friendly city: they've switched to bicycles. Many locals enjoy making a bike visit to the village-like central district, near a big bend in the river -- even when the temperature rises above 30-degrees centigrade. On the islands off the coast, there's plenty of sunshine, beautiful beaches, and clear, warm water -- a mix that attracts crowds of Bangkok residents on weekends.

Much have changed since the documentary was produced. Bangkok in 2023 is even more amazing. Bangkok is a good place to explore the rest of Thailand and beyond.
I love Bangkok. Which is unusual. I don’t normally appreciate huge, busy cities. Bangkok is really more a very large collection of neighborhoods. We have to get access to the sky train to cross a major street but other than that everything we need is available within a few easy to walk blocks. To visit much further places the trains, subway and taxis are easy, inexpensive and clean. Two international airports, inexpensive and readily available exchange machines along with the best street food in the world makes the friendly Thai city the most popular in the world.

Bangkok is chaotic, cheap, and relatively safer and freer than neighbouring SEA nations. That constitutes its appeal, and I think you nailed it.

This Land has been enigmatic and exotic for me for long time. Beautiful city with beautiful people. I wanna go to Thailand.
The trains (BTS) in Bangkok are fantastic. Always on time, clean, well air-conditioned. People line up and allow others to disembark before boarding, very well mannerd.
Bless Thai people, lovely people.. Probably the nicest in the world.
Living in Bangkok, you tend to only see the annoying things and tend to get caught up in the busy city lifestyle. But Thailand is an amazing place with the nicest people. The rural areas appeal more and more as I get older.

I miss Thailand! ...And I have been there 6 times in the last 5 years ;). Such a special heart -warming place! ❤
I'm from Manila Philippines & Bangkok is absolutely beautiful city.I'm jealous because they have good transportation & has a couple of choice whether its land or water. We don't have that kind of transportation here in Manila.
Bangkok land of beautiful temples!..Greetings from the Philippines..
As a traveller from the Philippines, I miss Thailand so much for 8 years now! My only attempt to travel was on April 5-10, 2013 in Bangkok, Samut Prakan, Ratchaburi & Sa Kaeo. Since I watched Miss Grand Thailand since 2016, I realized that there are 77 provinces that I need to memorize, and now I enjoyed BNK48's 7th single, 77 Suteki na machi e, just to memorize all 77 provinces, including its capital, Bangkok! As an MNLove (MNL48's fan) & 4648Group Hako, I'm also a fan of BNK48 & CGM48 (from Bangkok & Chiang Mai respectively)! Aside from them, I got to know other Thai Idol Groups there like Sweat16!, SY51, Violet Wink, Red Spin, China Dolls, Faye Fang Kaew, Tossagirls, Fever, Daisy Daisy, Cheesy Pie, Trinity, SBFive, and many more! Sending my love from Philippines to Thailand! 🇵🇭❤️🇹🇭

I love it too, but they really should do something about pollution. The air quality was very poor at times, and the garbage in the canals was bad. The bad air made me feel sick at times. How about electric tuk tuks! Solar panels on all of the roofs of the buildings with free charging stations for electric vehicles.

Thank you for your hardworking to create this wonderful documentary about Bangkok, Thailand 🇹🇭 ! I really love the part that you mention about the full name of Bangkok. I think most of foreigners don’t know about this! The longest city name in the world in the Guinness book of records. It's pronounced as the following : “Krung Thep Mahanakhon Amon Rattanakosin Mahinthara Ayuthaya Mahadilok Phop Noppharat Ratchathani Burirom Udomratchaniwet Mahasathan Amon Piman Awatan Sathit Sakkathattiya Witsanukarm Prasit” This means “The city of angels, the great city, the residence of the Emerald Buddha, the impregnable city (of Ayutthaya) of God Indra, the grand capital of the world endowed with nine precious gems, the happy city, abounding in an enormous Royal Palace that resembles the heavenly abode where reigns the reincarnated god, a city given by Indra and built by Vishnukarm.”

I lived in Krung Thep for 18 months during 2013-2014. This documentary brings back some wonderful memories. Thanks for the great production, DW.
I love your documentary. It simply presents Bangkok, but it shows all aspects of common lives of citizens and where and what visitors can see, not a just fancy night life corners. I was surprised that at the end of the video, you presented the song of Bangkok name. I sang along the karaoke with joy and a good memory of the song when I was young. Thank you for a nice documentary ❤
One of my favorite cities of all time.
Thats why I love Bangkok... Very grateful to be able to lived there now
I visited bangkok last december 2018, I like how you can see their culture and tradition even up to the smallest street. Yes there is some part that was very messy if you look at it and if you will compare it to first world countries but I would say It's make thailand different from other countries.
Since 2017 when this VDO first released, Bangkok now has 8 sky train / subway lines for a total of 210 km in lengths. they should reach the target of having 15 lines / 540 km in lengths by 2029. Things have already looked much different in the city after COVID hit. Lots of new attractions / conveniences. I would not be surprised if BK remains the top destination city for tourism post-covid.
I'm in 'Krung Thep' average 3 times a year. It's again and again a new and very positiv exerience. The Thais are such an lovly and welcoming people. Even if the english language isn't very present, they try their best to help you. I prefer the north of Thailand, becaus it's a more natural erperienc as the tourist strongholds in the south ;-)

So Bang Kok is Plum Grove in English? A Thai person told me it meant Olive Grove.
@Abcdef-on5dq
3 жыл бұрын
@@JazzFunkNobby1964 Bangkok is a compound words between BANG and KOK. BANG means village nearby river or canal and KOK is a short form of Makok, which means olive. So, Bangkok, which is the old name while Ayutthaya was the capital city of Siam (Thailand old name), means the village that plant olive. When King Rama I establish this city, He rename it to Krung Thep Mahanakhon...... (Almost Thai people call only Krung Thep). PS. You can see that many district and Metro train station in Bangkok have the name started with BANG such as Bang Sue, Bang Pho, Bang O, Bang Wa, etc. PS.2 Sorry with my English. I am not good at grammar.
