I guess there’s probably different milestones in a singers career where they’re like ‘shit I’ve made it’ - obviously getting a number 1 or selling a tour out etc. But when you go somewhere really far from home, and see how your success has permeated different countries and cultures - it must be hard not to proud of how far your success has reached. Especially for a 17 year old to go half way around the world and be so graciously welcomed with her own song. My heart. 🥰

If it only happens to famous people, I doubt it's sincere. This kinda thing should only be done by people relevant to the welcomed person, not by a group of actors. It just means more when you know the people. Like when I visit my Marae with my family, we are welcomed onto the Marae with a traditional powhiri, usually done for important occasions like funerals and homecomings of hero's etc. This doesn't seem as sincere to me, just paid up and fame farming.
How is this not trending 🤷🏽♀️

We’ve come a long way in New Zealand. Respect to the fellow kiwis for the change. We are shit in alot but Māori are resilient and proud. They almost succeeded in killing off the culture but we rose up to the challenge and are trying ever so hard to preserve our language and culture in a ever so fast changing world of NZ. Where Māori are placed in the same category as those who flew here on a plane. We don’t have the struggles of the Aboriginies, thank the heavens. But we do have other struggles x

Still full blooded Aboriginals around, no more full blooded Maoris.
Billie is not JUST a celebrity - or a "famous person." She is an artist and human of deep wisdom and compassion... She walks through the world humbly and radiates much aloha... [ Yes I am Hawai'ian ]. I believe this honorable welcome is ABSOLUTELY appropriate - and I hope we would welcome her to Hawai'i in similar fashion.
That look in her eyes makes me CRYYYYY!!!!!!🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
That was the most touching thing I have ever seen. Loved that!
This was a beautiful performance, literally in tears watching her in tears, her reaction when she realised they were singing her song in Maori literal CHILLS. Such a sweet soul. Enjoy New Zealand billie we love you!!!! Arohamai 💖🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻💜💜💜💜
Her reaction just made me a fan of hers, she seems so down to earth and you could see how in awe she was when they sung one of her songs in Maori..... Ka mau te wehi mo tenei Roopu Kapahaka
I am a music student and I studied music of world cultures. My professor who has traveled to all these place NZ, PNG, Hawaii etc taught us how to do the HAKA!!! This is such an honor!!! Man the Haka war dance is not joke. You can feel the power when they are dancing and you are not allowed to do it outside of the tribe or make fun of it or show your friends. It is a very sacred dance. They sound so beautiful. My heart is sooooo warm right now.
I feel so proud to be from Aotearoa (nz) when i see such heart warming things like this! I hope Billie enjoyed her stay, all be it brief. 💗🤙
watching her tear up made me tear up and now everybody's tearing up and-
I love new Zealand so much
This more than proves music is the Universal language. I must of watched this 30 times now & it does not get old. We had music long before any spoken language - the oldest & most beautiful art form that has never gone out of fashion & never will.
Seeing a haka is always amazing I would love to see one in person in the future
I'm not maori nor kiwi, and not a fan of Billie, however I can feel the emotion that created that special connection moment. I have heard several maori chants and they are amazingly warm, I visited Tahiti (French Polynesia) for the Heiva that happen to be a competition, there is a part of the competition in which the several locations of the island sing a "chant" and many of them are extremely beautiful and touchy! The energy maoris put in is real and authentic, they kinda owned the spirit of the melody to make an special welcome, I think that's why it touched Billie deep, it would be nice to receive that kind of reception.
OMG THIS WAS AMAZING!!!!! I need Billie to feature them in her next song she better drop some tribal tracks
This makes me hella proud to live in New Zealand :)
