Up pipe heat shield Blown cat/convert Or shaft play But on Subaru’s ej2.5 turbos that’s what there known for I’m a master tech for Subaru and iv always come across that sound and theses 3 things were always a out come for that.... home this helps

I think almost all of my heat shields have made me think oh boy. What did I do. I would assume shaft play would cause some boost issues and a blown cat would probably throw codes

Check for shaft play, that sounds most likely the compressor wheel tapping against the housing while spooling

Almost sounds like a heat shield rattle since you’re putting the engine under a high load. It causes everything to vibrate

i have a 2013 wrx and in 3rd at 30 you should have enough torque to not lug it. i still wouldn't put my foot down all the time doing that though.

i have a 2011 impreza and when i step on the pedal while at a stopped light i couldnt find out what the problem was but it was making a stuggling sound same as in the video before the turbo kicked in, so assentialy i was lugging the engine, but when i put a pod filter in it seemed to have gotten more air and didnt make the weird sound anymore, i do have a NA car though so comparing to a turbo where it pulls more air into the engine already, i dont know how to explain his problem

I wouldn't try and figure it out have the turbo looked and and serviced better to catch any small problem wich can be a addressed at low cost rather than one problem creating a domino affect affecting other components and worst case blowing and sounding like tubaca from the star wars movie and having to replace the turbo get a trusty turbo mechanicwho has experience and the correct tools to check over it prevention is better than replacement costs 👍✔️

Turbos like load, and 2k rpm is plenty of rpm for a factory street motor. Also the CPU won't let you lug it, throttle position only goes to whatever the computer sees fit. You can floor it at 2k throttle but the computer will only go to probably 40% and work it's way up to 100% as rpms increase

It's definitely your wastegate!!! When it is stuck closed the back pressure that should be diverted is forced through the fins in the turbo halting the spool causing the turbo to semi-seize. Get the wastegate fixed asap!

mine just started this issue i believe that its the turbo going out. my nissan 300zx had this same sound a when the turbo was bad. wish they could make a turbo that last 250k miles instead of 120k. i treated my car very nicely hardly every got on it and never raced it.

Cars are made to be pushed on... this mean every single engine ( including those stupid Prius). If people drive their cars like rotaries, they wouldn’t have problems ( this mean every single time you drive you let the car warm up and then do at least one pull).

Wrx is better at low rpm than the sti. Besides they cant lie about the gas mileage if the car doesnt run healthy at 2k rpm. 60 mph in 5th is fine. 30 mph in 5th gear at 1200 rpm is not okay. Still there are worse things you can do like launching it. 2k rpm is perfectly fine, these are street car engines after all not fuckin f1 or high revving race engines. Even if say the ejs revved to 9k rpm putting around at 2500 would probably be fine. They dont need to be constantly ready to make boost to be "running good at proper rpm" if that was the case subaru would idle them up there so you cant drive them under that rpm. And wtf do yall do in stop and go traffic?

I have a 2014 wrx and it has a loud tick. Not sure what it could be. My D.A.M. and fine knocks are good, it sound like an air leak but cant seem to find it, any suggestions?

@@warrendempsey8303 ive narrowed it down to a heat shield or something similiar, took my intercooler and turbo off to inspect both and found nothing, not even the little piece that is known for buzzing that goes from intercooler to intake. I am having my licensed subaru mechanic friend come listen to it today so if he can figure it out ill let you know

@@warrendempsey8303 he said its for sure a heat shield, id narrow down which one it is by taking them off, driving a short amount of time and then if it doesnt make the sound try filling the inside of the heat shield between the shield and pipe with steel wool for cheap fix, and otherwise use heat wrap and hose clamps or just replace it with an oem one
