I come from Southern Italy and I am surprised about how many dishes we have in common with the Greeks. There are some known reasons (μεγάλη Ελλάδα, Mediterranean Sea) but not at this scale. It is true: due facce una razza :D

Εγώ είμαι Έλληνας από τη Βραζιλία μου αρέσει πολύ το Ρίο ντε Τζανέιρο, και οι καταρράκτες ιγκουασού! Στη Βραζιλία έχω έρθει τρεις φορές για διακοπές!!!! Ξέχασα να σου πω ότι στο Ρίο το φαγητό το ζυγίζουν στο εστιατόριο!!!!!

My mother is from chios and my father is from Sparta. I was born in the USA. I have eaten everything you listed except for the larger sizes capers. All in chios. I loved the escargot!

Είναι ενδιαφέρον ότι υπάρχουν πολλά φαγητά που τρώγονται και σε 2 χώρες, στην Ελλάδα και στην Ιαπωνία. Κι εμείς τρώμε χταπόδι, Πέτρο σωλήνες, αχινό κλπ. Αυτό είναι φυσικό γιατί η Ιαπωνία και η Ελλάδα περικυκλώνονται από θάλασσα, παρόλο που η 2 χώρες μεταξύ βρίσκονται πολύ μακριά. Το περίεργο ελληνικό φαγητό για μένα ήτανε ρυζόγαλο. Δεν γλυκαίνουμε ρύζι ακομα και με γάλα...! Αλλά τώρα, είναι το αγαπημένο μου κιόλας!!

Η αλήθεια είναι οτι έχω δει στην Ελλάδα γλυκό του κουταλιού φασόλια (γίγαντες), αλλά σιγουρα δεν είναι συνηθισμένο.

you mentioned about the intestines and everything in them, well in Scotland there is Haggis of course, a sausage with every lower digestive organ in it.. and seasoned with herbs. Also black and white pudding in the British Isles (but probably lots of other places too.. basically dried blood.. it's actually nice I think)

I actually thought of haggis when I was editing the episode. I've tried it and I actually liked it. I've also tried a curious Portuguese blood soup with cumin, which was also tasty. -Dimitris (the flexitarian :P)

I have another one for you though, I think they originate in England.. called Pork Scratchings.. it's basically fried pig skin with crystalised fatty layer underneath. They are flavoured usually but in their raw form they are quite disgusting !

Most of them are not so common, apart from octopus (the whole thing not just the ink sack), kokoretsi and chorta (the greens). I hope you do get the chance, yes!

The Spartans had some pretty disgusting food that even the Athenians complained about. Black broth with pig intestines, if I'm not mistaken.

Intestines, like liver, lungs and kidneys... not exactly as discusting as a blood pudding they eat in some northern european countries !

Actually, octopus is quite popular in most parts of the world (e.g., South Europe, East Asia). In Lesvos we eat papalina, which is a kind of small sardine, but we eat it raw, as a side ouzo dish.

Ahhhh good, in italian we call that "cappero" too. It's prounoced exactly like greek, but we put more emphasis on the p letter. In addiction, we have a very big tradition about octopus smashing on hard surfaces here in Apulia, eating limpets (patelle) .

Raw limpets (= πεταλίδες) are the best snack (= μεζές) for ouzo. In my village we also make pilaf with them (with the addition of a selection of herbs and spices and tomato sauce).

I can't say this sounds appetizing (I don't like limpets at all), but I want to be open-minded!

Great video, now I want to eat some octopus and sea urchins. I have not tried some of the foods you mention, but they are all part of Turkish cuisine, too. And I love octopus and calamari. My father and uncles love eating lamb brains. My late uncle also was fond of eating the eyes. My hometown, Tekirdağ, is 2-hour-drive-away from both Greece and Bulgaria, and, in the village, people collect lots of different herbs and flowers to make pies, pides-pitas, and mezes. Therefore, except few, all the food you talk about is totally normal for us as Turkish.

Ωραίο βιντεάκι, παιδιά, ευχαριστούμε! Υπάρχουν κι άλλα πολλά...φούσκες με λάδι και λεμόνι (sea squirt), ποδαράκια με πατσά, λακέρδα, γαύρος μαρινάτος, κολοκυθοανθούς γεμιστούς (με ρύζι κρεμμύδι κλπ), καπαροσαλάτα με καπαρόφυλλα και κρεμμύδι... Απο γλυκά: γλυκό τριαντάφυλλο, γλυκό καρότο, και το παλιό αλλα καλό υποβρύχιο!

All the foods that are mentioned here are very delicious and tasty. And none are disgusting! There is no disgusting Greek food!

@@EasyGreekVideos at 41 years old now, nothing special with the food. Maybe Easter bread. Parents have passed away, so no more going to church. Mostly for my Greek flavors, I dine on salad, pitas, feta, kephaloteri, kasseri, tiropita, olives, spanakopita, fruits, stuffed grapes leaves ( no meat) falafel is a great substitute most dishes.

Το κρίταμο, στην Κύπρο το λέμε κίρταμα, είναι σπάνια λιχουδιά που την γνωρίζουν μόνο οσοι κατοικούν κοντά στην θάλασσα. Την κάπαρη, στην Κύπρο, το καππάρι, τρωγεται και ο βλαστός οταν είναι τρυφερός, και το μπουμπούκι, και ο καρπός πρίν σκληρύνη, πάντοτε ολα διατηρημένά σέ ξύδι ή αλμη.

στην Πάσχα (προχτές) μαγείρεψα το λεμονατο αρνι ως το φτιάξει ο Άκης πετρεζικις σε ένα βίντεο στο ιουτυμπ και έγινε σούπερ πάρα ωραίο

My father had a fish shop in San Diego so none of the seafood things you mentioned seemed strange. He did hate killing octopi, the fact that their eyes look so much like a human's really freaked him out. That meat cake of yours, however, sounds really strange. I would put the fried scorpions I had when I lived in China though as the all-time weirdest food - and jellyfish.

Did you try the scorpions? Interesting that your father had live octopi at his shop! People who catch them kill them on the spot as far as I know -- or maybe that's just the people who go spearfishing for them.

I did try the scorpions - they were fried so there wasn't much flavor - 'crunchy' would be the only way to describe them. Snake was a big winter food there, they believe it's a warming food. It tastes a bit like chicken. Two of the weirdest things you'd see in the live/dead/wild animal markets were large dried millipedes and dried gecko lizards - both on a wooden stick - I guess so you could eat them while walking. Who would ever wake up thinking: 'Mmmm, today's the today for some tasty millipedes." I never tried either. My dad would take a knife to the octopi but again, they way they would look at him would really unnerve him. After a while, he just started freezing them first to kill them. Luckily, there was very little demand.

Γέλασα πολύ με τος γκριμάτσες του Δημήτρη!! Είστε Υπέροχοι! Λοιπόν,αυγά αχινου (που το σκέφτηκα αλλά δεν το θεώρησα περίεργο) είχα φάει σε μακαρόναδα ,απευθείας ψάρεμα του Βαγγ μαγειρεμένα σε παραλία στην Σκύρο! Ps: αγαπημένο (αλλά πάλι δεν το θεώρησα περίεργο) η αλμυρα!!!

Έχω πάθει πλάκα. Από τις καλύτερες μου αναμνήσεις να τρώω πεταλίδες και αχινούς, από νησί γαρ και γω.

As far as eyes of fish, lamp etc. They have a gelatin texture and there is hard kernel in the middle that you don't eat. The have an unremarkable taste - not so for brains there are very rich an tasty especially breaded with a little lemon

Δεν τις κανουμε σουπα, σε καποια μερη της ελλαδας ομως τις βαζουν ως γεμιση σε πιτα

η πατςα την έφαγα στην Ελλάδα πέρυσι το χειμώνα όταν έμεινα στην Λάρισα σε μια εκδρομή στο χωριό οταν είχε πολύ χιόνι. στην Ρώμη λέμε trippa και είναι ένα παραδοσιακό φαγητό εδώ

Αυτό με τα έντερα το είχα δει κι εγώ και στο πρωτότυπο κατ του βίντεο το είχα συμπεριλάβει ("τα φυσάνε τα αντεράκια σαν καλαμάκι") αλλά δεν έβρισκα βίντεο/φωτογραφίες και τελικά νόμιζα ότι μπορεί και να είχα τρελαθεί! -Δημήτρης

Τρελλαίνομαι για αυγά και μάτια ψαριού και αλμύρα!Δεν μου αρέσουν,περιέργως,ούτε η φέτα ούτε το καρπούζι!Όσο για μυαλά κότας,πρώτη φορά το ακούω,παγκοσμίως!Ήξερα όμως πριν πολλά χρόνια,ηλικιωμένους στην επαρχία που ξεκοκκάλιζαν κεφαλάκια κουνελιών!!

Δεν μπορώ να βρω τη "Silan" στην Ελλάδα και δεν ξέρω πώς να πω "Silan" στα ελληνικά. ("Silan" = Dates honey or carobs honey.)

Carob honey = χαρουπόμελο (we like it!) But we don't have honey or syrup made of dates (χουρμάδες), at least I don't recall seeing it - Dimitris

Wish there had been more non-meat options in this video! Can't literally stomach all these 'delicacies' after seeing what goes on in slaughter houses. My grandparents used to kill to eat but sadly, I am unable to do that so opt for a plant based diet. In France we have foie gras and 'andouillettes'...not for me I am afraid! Το πιο ξεραστικό ελληνικό φαγητό που έχω φάει είναι ο πατσάς. Δεν ήμουν σίγουρος αν αυτό που βρόμαγε περισσότερο ήταν το κρέας ή το σκόρδο. Βεβαίως υπάρχουν κι αυτά που δεν έχω δοκιμάσει: χοχλιοί, αχιβάδες, κυδώνια (όχι τα φρούτα), μύδια κλπ.

I am MORTIFIED! Encephalopods are very intelligent and sentient creatures. What a horrible video! I doesn't matter how many eons people have eaten any animal, this is still very cruel.

I think you calling the video horrible is shooting the messenger. Unfortunately, people are much crueler to (intelligent) species much closer to humans evolutionarily. We have some ways to go still.
