    Thank you for saying that! I found the title a bit off putting, partially do to saying that people "can't" eat foods. Also because these are not weird foods or weird ingredients. On the topic of Swedish Fish, Trader Joe's has Scandinavian Swimmers, which is their own similar product, in a mixed flavor bag, using vegetables for dye.

    There's a misconception with veganism and vegetarianism that you have to be 100 percent, but it's hard! It's not an easy lifestyle in the world we live in so I think as long as you are actively consuming less animal products, it's okay to get something you that might contain a small amount of animal product. Also, most sugar companies do not make sugar with bone char.

    It's actually not hard if you cut the C.R.A.P. (calorie rich and processed) and stick with whole plant foods. I will agree with you it can be difficult to learn how to cook and prepare real foods with real ingredients if you've never done it and produce can be more expensive because of the corrupt taxpayer subsidies given to animal and junk food industries and the long distances overwhich produce is trucked. But even that can be overcome with some good cookbooks and KZread tutorials. And if you're able to garden, you can save a ton and eat much better. If you like more traditional animal foods, Happy Herbivore has Tempeh bacon (tastes so much better than any faux products in the stores) and Engine II has a great tofu faux egg salad recipe... There are so many great cookbooks and recipes out there, you're sure to find just about anything for those occasional nostalgic meat and junk cravings. But honestly, when you start eating real foods, you feel better and you don't crave those things as much anymore...

    It really isn't the same, though. Giving up, if only meat, makes such an impact. Plus, everything is personal preference. I, myself, started by cutting out meat, then gelatin and things like that, until i became fully vegan. To put down someone for making an effort is ignorant. Giving up things that are so commonly used is tough, and not an option for a lot of people.

    I am a very high raw vegan and do not struggle much at all because I eat mostly raw! Lots of fruit mostly! So maybe I could be considered pretty close to a fruitarian! I am also Non Celiac Gluten Sensitive so I can not have wheat anyways! I found gluten to be the number one cause of my suicidal depression and anxiety, so after cutting wheat out, I am much happier and even happier yet because I eat so many raw foods! With living enzymes and biophotons! I highly recommend trying to eat more raw because it's sooooo much easier! Yes it is a little more restrictive, but your health benefits increase and you don't really have to worry about looking at ingredients, so it is actually much simpler! I am even able to say that I am completely GMO free as well because of it! If I buy corn I buy it organic. If I buy edamame I buy it organic! Zucchini is also GMO, so buy organic or grow your own like I do! Also papaya is now GMO sometimes, so try to verify the farm or buy only organic. This is all for America by the way! There are not many GMO's in the produce department, so it's just a few foods to look out for! Most GMO's are shoved into packaged foods, so I don't worry about that! I do have a couple of favorite packaged products, but they are mostly condiments, like an artichoke bruschetta that is in sunflower oil! I will add a few tablespoons to nibble at on top of a huge tomato salad! Going high raw sounds hard, but it does become so simple once you have some favorite meals picked out! Packaged foods are just full of GMO's and I find them to be so scary!

    I think a lot of these still apply to a vegetarian lifestyle. What I go by is whether an animal had to die to produce the food I'm eating, and some of these do break that. Obvious things like the chicken or beef stock (which aren't hard to realize), but also the others like gelatin and some food coloring, animal fats, etc. I do agree that some of those she mentioned are more fitted to a plant based diet instead, but there were only about 2-3 of those.

  • @rayvenner3340

  • @kye4947

    @kye4947

    If you're considering one of the 2 I would just go vegan. Lots of people think by going vegetarian they aren't contributing to the death of animals, but by supporting the egg or dairy industry you indirectly support the meat industry. Baby boy calves in the dairy industry are sent to a slaughterhouse after a few weeks of life to make veal because they can't produce milk. The boy chicks in the egg industry are literally thrown into a grinder fully conscious because they won't ever produce eggs and that's standard practice for ALL egg farmers/manufactures. Also the animals are often held in extremely poor conditions and treated horribly. Besides all that though, every animal in the egg or dairy industry will eventually end up at a slaughterhouse to be killed for meat. Cows when they no longer produce enough milk (after being forced to have countless babies that have all been stolen from them a day after they born), And hens after they no longer produce as many eggs.

    There is definitely a lot to learn, especially with all the weird secret ingredients out there with ever changing names.. but don't feel pressured to be perfect! I was vegetarian for almost ten years (since I was 11) and now have been vegan for about 1 year and have definitely made mistakes along the way (especially when switching to cruelty-free beauty products) but... As long as your intentions are in the right place, anything is better than nothing, right? :)

I do what I can by choosing more vegan or vegetarian alternatives (Like i usually drink almond milk instead of cows milk, or getting veggie burgers instead of beef) but that's the best I can do. My diet is also horribly limited by allergies and stuff :/

    Instead the cows are tethered and locked indoors, constantly impregnated, used for their milk and has the calves abruptly taken away (many killed for meat). Also they are killed about 4-5 years in, which is a fraction of the normal life expectancy. Not sure if death or constant depressing living conditions is worse. Still very cruel to the animals and not much of a life worth living for the animal....

    Yeah that is true, but the whole point of not eating animals is because it's cruel. But the dairy industry is just as cruel, treating the animals like trash then killing them after a few years. So essentially they are still being killed, just after using their bodies for milk. Seems almost as bad.
