I used to experiment with black and white 35mm photography until the film became too hard to find and I gave up and switched to digital, but I still think black and white looked more natural from film.)

If dialog was written, it appeared as text on the screen between camera shots. Actors had to portray their character's emotions through body language, and facial expressions, because their voices could not be recorded. Movies from that era are now known as "Silent Movies". The first films that included actual recorded sound were called "Talkies". @@xpehkto probably based on the likes of the cinematographer... Some still use film cameras... (but do they still make black and white film stock? I used to experiment with black and white 35mm photography until the film became too hard to find and I gave up and switched to digital, but I still think black and white looked more natural from film.)

If dialog was written, it appeared as text on the screen between camera shots. Actors had to portray their character's emotions through body language, and facial expressions, because their voices could not be recorded. Movies from that era are now known as "Silent Movies". The first films that included actual recorded sound were called "Talkies". When that change happened, many Hollywood actors lost their jobs, or hired people to speak their lines, because their voices didn't record well on early equipment.

It's an amazing age, when I, who as a young man was first introduced to the wonders of the twinky wiener sandwich and learned of the deep meaning hidden within mashed potatoes, who was taught to clean off his plate so that other kids won't starve in Japan, can give the man responsible for my obesity and microwave head tan addiction an upvote. Without Al, I'd have been dead years ago, or maybe just missing a few fingers, because I never would have put down that chainsaw. Take my upvote. You've earned it, Al, you've earned it.

This hits me close to home. My mother has a history of donating hair to make wigs for cancer patients. The ability to look normal, and be able to walk around in society without being stared at means the world to those poor souls.

I've met him in person, and he is every bit as nice as everybody says he is. Just the most down to earth, attentive, giving person. He has the sharpest brain and he uses it in the best ways. I get the feeling that he is grateful for every single fan that he has and he never lets that appreciation get away from him.
