Fun fact Weird Al actually got the inspiration for this song when he was in a car accident and had to be sent to the hospital amazing that he was able to perform it live on stage only 30 minutes later RIP TO THE LEGEND

Sometimes I try to listen to “Like a Virgin” but I always end up back here.

I had a scheduled c section, and my obgyn who was the best doc I've ever had, started singing this while I was on the table. Thankfully, I trusted him. If a new surgeon of mine started singing this when I got to the OR, I'd suddenly cancel.

+Bren Lockhart yeah, because of copyright they can only make fun of the artist. Wierd al has to get permission from the artists directly in order to do it like this. The parodies made by youtubers are actual parody of the artist, but wierd al basically rewrites it thats why :(

Kausalya Kethu Actually under U.S. copyright law neither he nor anyone else has to get permission to write a parody. He does does it because he's just that awesome. Other parody artists mock the original singer because they're hacks, not because of copyright law.

Yeah - I mean, Weird Al's parodies are just about random, crazy stuff, while Bart Baker's parodies are mostly just the artist supposedly singing "I'm crazy and I suck" over and over. I mean, he might've been inspired by Weird Al (Idk), but there is absolutely NO comparison between the two...

Weird Al Yankovic made my childhood, and i would play him every chance i could. I wish i could tell him how much of an impact he had on me. Thank you Mr. Yankovic

Although Yankovic refuses to use parody ideas from other people, Madonna is partly responsible for "Like a Surgeon". Madonna asked one of her friends how long it would take until Yankovic satirized her song "Like a Virgin" as "Like a Surgeon". This friend was a mutual friend of Al's manager, Jay Levey. When word got back to Yankovic, he decided it was a good idea and wrote the song. This is the only known time that Yankovic has obtained a parody idea directly from the original artist.

I also enjoyed his food related album, containing songs like "Eat it!" (after Michael Jackson), "The Rye or the Kaiser" (after the Rocky whatever theme "Eye of the Tiger"), and "Taco Grande." And I wonder how Cat Stevens (Yusif Islam) feels about "Cat in the Kettle?" Or for that matter, half the Chinese restaurant owners in the US?

lurch321 You're right. I didn't look it up because I thought my memory was good enough, and that particular song "sounded like" a Cat Stevens song of the same general time period. Several Cat Stevens and Harry Chapin songs that I remember were sung in a similar vocal and accompaniment style, for example "Summer Breeze" and "Taxi." Each of them could well have covered some of the other's songs in the '60s and early '70s. I need to get some old CDs and listen to both of them, and I hope Yusif Islam's banishment from the US over "giving to Islamic terrorism" (is that still in effect, by the way?) doesn't keep his songs from being sold.

lurch321 All three of them sound similar, in fact. Now I'm not sure of any song that is DEFINITELY Cat Stevens without looking him up. I don't know if they had a name for that style when it was being composed, Soft Rock maybe. Groups like Alabama were merging it with Country also. As for modern Country, as a non-country fan, all the male singers and all the female singers sound alike to me. And the lyrics are about a limited number of subjects: female singers sing about why the CAN'T leave, or why they ARE leaving, an abusive man, and male singers sing about the dumb choices they have made, such as abusing and chasing off the one woman they love. If you play a country song backwards, you get out of jail, quit drinking and gambling, and get your house/trailer, pickup, dog and wife back!
