No, the Entente's mistake was that they didn't hit Germany hard enough - at least militarily. Imagine that you are a typical German civilian and you read in the Spring of 1918 about the brilliant offensives on the Western Front and then the newspaper grow silent (since the offensives stall). Then there is a revolution in Berlin and that revolutionary and partly socialist civilian government promptly sues for peace. Then comes Ludendorff with the Dolchstosslegende (to which he himself didn't belive, he knew that the German military was finished, he actually panicked during the Black Day of August 8th 1918 and in late September he implored the Kaiser to seeek armistice because Ludendorff "couldn't guarantee the integrity of the front for another two days"), i.e. the mendacious explanation that the German military was victorious but the civilian politicians stabbed it in the back. Well, of course the typical German civilian will believe that the peace was too harsh. In his view the German military was undefeated. The front was still deep in Belgian and French territory when the Armistice came in effect. Not a single piece of German soil was occupied. The German civilians had no chance seeing firsthand how broken the German military was and how desperate the situation has become, they haven't felt the foreign occupation. Had the Entente forces penetrated deep into German territory there would have been no question about the "harshness" of the peace treaty, because the Germans would have known that they were thoroughly beaten and they simply couldn't have pretended otherwise. Luckily the Allies learned their lesson in WW II and this is the reason why nazism has been totally discredited as an ideology forever: because it was utterly beaten. Unfortunately this wasn't the case with communism, USSR and Russia in the early 90s and now we see the consequences that are exactly the same as in Germany after WW I.

And if the conservatives didn't enter a coalition with him and didn't make him chancellor, he wouldn't have had any power whatsoever. He "only" had 44%, that is not enough to rule on your own. Let's be completely unrealistic here and assume that all other parties unite against him, boom you just stopped Hitler. Of course, later events like the death of Reichspräsident Hindenburg or Hitler's proposal to forge chancellor and president into one role gave him the power to rule on his own by emergency powers.

The war in the east was won...even politicians of the social-democratic government believed, that they only hold out a little longer, they could broker an acceptable peace, but finance minister Erzberger ruined everything. Germany also had enormous economic growth under the Kaiser, so much that the French feared, that they were being infiltrated economically, since German products literally were EVERYWHERE (basically the "Made in China" of the later 19th, early 20th century...except the German quality was fairly good). But I have to say that at the beginning, many Germans were optimistic about the republic, that of course changed after the Versailles treaty was signed...

Choices directly orchestrated by the empirial system, such as Wilhelm II. unilateral choice to dismantle Bismarcks international treaty-structure, giving Austria-Hungary a blanco-cheque and a wide range of diplomatic blunders.
