Absolutely best info, very informative, saved me many hours browsing web, Amazing Teacher! Since we put ourselves through many copper birds nests I’ll stick with copper, butif I would restart the game steel would be the weapon of choice for sure

Great video Russell! I'm new to Salmon fishing and this video educated me on the difference of the 3 and being new l'm leaning towards weighted steel or lead core. I watched your other video Okuma Coldwater series....thinking of Okuma 303D with either lead or weighted steel. Which would you recommend ? it'd be for all purpose (downrigger, gypsy etc). Thanks

Copper! Everyone keeps telling me to get weighted steel but I flat out boat fish with my coppers

Weighted steel is a thicker diameter than the "diver wire" that is used for wire divers. They are 2 different products.

What's the line diameter on weighted steel, compared to 45 lb. copper? Can you get more of it on your 500 series reels? Thanks.

Hi ! Thanks for your time ! I was wondering if there's a big difference in dive curve between say 12# lead core and 36 # ? Why is 27# better than 36 ? And I plan on setting up a rod for fishing lake Superior the first week of October out of Copper Harbor ,and never fished it before in fact never fished salmon or trout before so ANY help would be appreciated !! there is a dive curve difference also a diameter difference for salmon guys 27# seems to fit the needs the best

Flashers and flies will pull up the copper a few feet compared to spoons

Would it work to run weighted steel on one side and copper on the other? Where can I purchase the weighted steel?

Why wouldn't you just fish pump handle style instead of lead core or copper. it costs less and is easier to set up for, depth wise.

The "lead" in a pencil is graphite- not the same as lead the element.

How long of a leader do you run off your copper and or weighted steel? Could you do a video on setting up a weighted steel reel knots etc.

Torpedo has a couple videos on those knots. As far as reel knots, you're probably gonna want to take the time and do a hollowcore termination with a DaHo needle.
