When my husband was diagnosed with cancer, I never will forget what he said. He told me he wouldn't be taking any treatments and then said "I don't want to live cancer, I want to live life." And while we did talk about it at times in order to make the necessary life arrangements, we spent 17 months enjoying each other. He's been gone 4 years, I miss him but am so grateful for those months. You have a wonderful attitude and I enjoy your channel so much. Blessings & Prayers for you.

Here you are, sharing your life with us and encouraging us to seek help so we can live a happier, healthier life even though your own life is challenging right now. You have influenced me more than any other KZreadr that I watch. I've changed the way I dress and buy clothes. I'm doing great on the Balanced Plate. I start swim classes tomorrow plus walking. Hi Cathy, I can relate to what you are saying. The trauma does crazy things to our minds, bodies etc I experienced my husband at 50 had a stroke I just got home from work he stayed home from work with a headache I was at the kitchen counter he walked in the dining room and started talking I could not understand a word he said I dialed 911 so fast ambulance came and Thank God he’s still with me BUT then he started using alcohol just sips then tried to stop which let to seizure’s I found him in the bathroom I almost broke his foot getting to him UGH so scary. I had no idea what was happening to him I thought maybe another stroke so again off to ER per ambulance 🚑 This happened several times, rehab all the while he got a break Me I still had to work take care of EVERYTHING it was HARD We are married from high school now 38 years only by God’s Grace my Friend!! This is why we should be kind to each other we are all going through something hard and we need that smile from someone not ridacule we are mean enough to ourselves like you said. Please forgive grammar I have to type as fast as it comes to tell story ❤ Thank You for sharing your life with us

We really do not know how strong we are until faced with devastating news or diagnosis. I marvel at how much of what you speak is exactly as I went through with my husband’s cancer diagnosis. Big difference was the time spent dealing with these feelings, your 30 years vs my 5 months from his diagnosis to death. I was a complete wreck when he was first diagnosed and couldn’t stop crying, and decided it was ok to take an antidepressant so I could be mentally strong to support him, drive him the 3 hours to appointment, hospitalizations and decision making. Everything you talked about was great advice. Thank you for your candor. ❤

My father died a month ago. I’ve been emotionally eating for the past two months since his illness and death. I got on the scale this morning and I have gained 8 pounds. I was trying to figure out how to pull myself out of this downward spiral. Your video was really helpful. You have been through so much. Thank you for keeping it real. Life isn’t easy sometimes. And another thing- I woke up paralyzed from the neck down. I had dealt with episodes of weakness until that day. Long story short it was my electrolytes, specifically potassium. My potassium was in the normal range but mine needs to be higher. The name of the condition is Hypokalemic Periodic Paralysis. If I wasn’t airlifted to a major hospital and paralyzed for a month they would have never figured it out.

The great thing about therapy is that it’s a person to talk to who has no ties to your family and can take no “sides.” It’s you and them and your feelings. Best of luck on your steps forward, my friend. Your internet family is here for you.

Thanks, Cathy. I really needed this video today. I have commented before about my husband's cancer story: sarcoma in his stomach, followed by CML, followed by glioblastoma that took his life in 2019, leaving me a widow with 2 teenage kids at age 50. So much of what you describe resonates with me. On Wednesday, my 94 year old mom, who has dementia fell and broke her hip. I have been logging long hours at the hospital the last few days. I feel like I must be there to advocate for her. Her dementia has gotten far worse since she's not in her normal surroundings. There is no one else who can help me out with caregiving. And just like in my husband's final months, I am eating whatever comes my way and am stressed to the max. I don't want to go down that road again! Thank you for the reminder to take care of myself. I wish all the best for you in the challenges you are up against. Christine from Toronto

Thank you so much for this video!! I've been under the dark cloud of stress for over 30 yrs also, both of my children & hubby born with rare heart problems and I was the caregiver. Now at 66, the past 2 years has been my turn having chronic health concerns due to living under so much stress for so long. My immune system is very low and I have to get IVIG infusions every 3 weeks for the rest of my life, they make me very sick for several days!! You made me realize I should talk to a counselor to try to get thru this! I tried years ago when Drs told me my children were dying, but no one could understand the feeling! Sometimes only God can help.

All you have said is true, honest and real. I recovered from stage 4 cancer last year after 6 months of chemo and was given three months to live. Now in remission, I have both been a caregiver and also a victim of cancer. Having a supportive family, a positive mindset saw me through. I had to retire at 60, but gaining purpose back, I am now back mentoring educators part time. It has helped me cope. I still suffer from anxiety every three months with my scan. Seeing a nutritionalist through the hospital was the best thing I ever did. The weight came back after chemo and now it is slowly coming off. My life partner and my daughter have been my champions. We all live on borrowed time. Thank you for the video. I have coped by talking about it and not been afraid to show my feelings. It is a bummer but also living each day with purpose can be incredibly freeing. Good work with the weight loss. I don't think what ifs anymore. Realize you are not alone.

Happy Birthday, Cathy! I can relate to much of your story. Being a care giver during my mother’s cancer battle cost me 60 pounds many years ago. I had no recollection of over eating either. You’re right! I did the best I could! I actually did extraordinarily well under pitiful, dire circumstances. You put the idea in my head about reaching out to a nutritionist and to keep moving forward. You are a heroine and deserve peace! I am sending you love and healing! ❤️‍🩹 Much respect and love! 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗

Scary times but also something to deal with as you said and enjoy what time you have on this earth. None of us are guaranteed tomorrow. I think it really does change your outlook when both of your parents are gone, you do move up in line so to speak. You are looking great, I saw your previous videos when you started your healthy eating/weight loss plan. I'm trying to lose 20 pounds along with my husband who needed to lose about 60 pounds. He is down 30 pounds and I'm down about 5 pounds. I told him it will likely take me a year to lose 20 pounds, it is what it is. Prayers for you, your husband and your family.

I need to lose about 50 lbs and it seems every time I lose a good amount, I have a setback or just give up. I am so sorry that you have had to deal with such horrible issues for so long. I will pray for you and your husband and both of your health situations. I worry about my step dad who is sole caretaker of my mom who has dementia. Cathy, very emotional subjects. Unsure how you can speak w/o crying. Death of loved ones and stress do horrible things to our bodies as well as living w/our fears and dealing with our emotions. Staying positive and focused is important. Agree, our mental health is ours alone to treat by seeing a good therapist. Some ppl have an overwhelming amount of adversity for which to deal. But I'm not one to compare what each of us are going through as we are individuals and we each have our own journey in life. And life is so unfair. A couple sayings I try to say to myself every day: "This too shall pass" and "Good mental health to you" (me, all of us) b/c our mental health is key. Please take care Cathy. Thank you for sharing with us your very difficult life journey.

This hit so many cords with me. Both with my mom passing with cancer and my own breast cancer. Definitely easier for the cancer person (from my experience). My sis and I took care of mom. We found that if we ‘had a good conscience’ about what we were able to do, it was enough - for all of us. My cancer changed me. I’m softer, happier, and take less for granted. 5 years since mom passed and 2 years since mastectomy and we are all in a good place. Glad you made this content. I wish you peace within yourself.

I have been praying along with my other prayers, for your husband and for you. Your transparency has helped me lose almost 20 lbs now. I have tried every wt loss ritual out there and YOU made the difference. Thank you! Only our good Lord knows it has not been an easy journey at 76 yrs young, You are amazingly resilient and YOU CAN and WILL get to your goal. One minute, one hour , one day at a time. Unless one has experienced what another is going through, even though it will be a different walk, it is difficult to understand that persons life. Although different, I understand...Sending you Love and prayers..Take good care of yourself.. Warm thoughts💕

Such a great video! I'm the oldest generation now too. My parents have passed. My spouse's father is still with us, but as he's 95 the burden is on my spouse. His sibling rarely helps although she lives closer. Our adult daughter has medical problems and has changed our retirement years as we need to help her and she is currently living with us. Stress is the main reason for me to gain/regain weight over the years.

Thank you as the person with an illness and have to be more dependent on my spouse and children .. I can see why they need time to themselves and an outlet for them other than just focused on this illness. I believe in the power of prayer and God is on the throne and He still heals and He still hears our prayers. Bless you Cathy and your family. Thank you for your videos and sharing with you. 🙏🏼

I can so relate-and sugar 😢is my healer. My husband fought MS for25 years-I had your same fears and feelings, and I finally realized it came to the same inclusion you did to try to live each day to the forest and enjoy my time with my husband and family. I wish I didn’t take me so long to realize that to live in the present to live in the moment and celebrate that instead of keep anticipating about what might happen, sending you l and your family much love

Thank you for sharing your story, Cathy. I’m so sorry for what you and your husband are going through. I don’t have the same situation in my life, but I have had other major stressors that have contributed to my anxiety, depression, and weight gain. I found a good therapist who I see each month…after several years, she’s almost like a girlfriend who listens, advises, but never judges…it helps so much! I finally got onto Wegovy and have lost about 80 pounds (under the care of an endocrinologist). I still have stress in my life - there are things that I cannot change - but I feel so much stronger and more comfortable in my own body. Wherever road your journey leads you, I wish you peace. Be kind to yourself. You are worth it.

Thank you for your sound advice that can apply to anyone going through challenging times. I'm so sorry for your husband's long cancer battle. You are one strong and determined individual. My husband was diagnosed stage 4 three years ago, but fortunately he's doing well. His doctors have told us many times that cancer care is moving forward at such a fast pace that many cancers can be treated as chronic conditions, even if stage 4. It doesn't pay to focus on those survivability numbers you find online, because they simply can't be kept up to date. You just have to put the cancer in a box on the shelf and keep on living! Congratulations on your weight loss!

Cathy, thanks for sharing about your life! I found Balanced Plate on this channel and I’m very grateful. I know restaurants and drive-thru can be a tough habit to break! Getting waited on feels like self-care even though the food is way less healthy than what I make at home. Fortunately the Balanced Plate is so visual that I’m happy playing with my food, but I still need to prep ingredients and make some meals ahead or it all falls apart. One day at a time, right? So glad your hubby is still with you. Take good care.

Kathy, I just want to share with you, that in the midst of your storm, Jesus is there to help you, strengthen you and comfort you. Maybe you're already aware of this, but since you didn't mention your faith in Him as a means of helping you cope, I thought I would. He has surely been my rock in my deepest storms. Hugs.

Totally understand what you are saying about not talking about illnesses. I think that is part of why I'm struggling with videos for my channel right now. Things are part of my life, but not my whole life, so once I healed it is hard to go back and think about it. Starting to work on weight since I've gotten my blood sugar levels a bit more in check and feel strong enough to start working through my food issues. Big hugs on your parents by the way. It's a hard ride, but eventually life gets easier.... never the same, but easier. Look forward to hearing more about your weight loss journey.
