Clothes that actually suit your lifestyle, comfortable shoes, should make your smile and feel more confident…I am 61 and am just finally being honest with myself…my feet are wide and need arch support…when I pull up Zappos and put in “size 6 WIDE, heel height 1-2 inches that eliminates 99% of all shoes, SO WHAT if they cost $200, I will wear them…which makes the uncomfortable $30 shoes in my wardrobe total about $1000 down the drain…much cheaper to buy ONLY what fits, flatters, and makes u smile…no more settling and feeling guilty!
Congrats on your weight loss. You’re doing great. Love what you are doing with your hair, and I love your new blazer. I would love to see you style your blazer with boot cut jeans. Not tying to criticize, but I think it would balance your figure ( coming from someone about the same size). Keep up the good work and thanks for a great video!
If I cant throw it in the washer and dryer I dont want it. If it has to be ironed it's a no go. I like plain straight leg good fitting Jean's. No low rise, no rips, no fancy stitching.
I won't buy distressed jeans either. I refuse to spend money on anything with holes already.
Absolutely NEVER on distressed jeans for me!
I’m with you on cheep shoes, blazers and itchy clothes. No time for that mess!
I agree, ripped jeans aren’t for women over 50… makes us look like we’re trying too hard😂. I find anything cashmere is itchy…I prefer cotton blend sweaters..so comfy!
That blazer did look good on you!💖 I’ve seen women mix blazer’s with things like joggers and maybe a hoodie . The mix of dressy and really casual looks really cool.

Great idea!!
I'm so cheap when it comes to buying underwear. I am going to get some good bras that fit. I'm glad that you mentioned that or I probably wouldn't have done this. Thank you,
I’m with you in better quality clothing. I had so many cheap tshirts and pants that are cheap and look awful after one wash. My girls said I buy tops far too big!! I’m trying to relearn and you have been an inspiration. I look awful in distressed jeans so I don’t get them.
This was so helpful Cathy! Thank you. I have lost 40 pounds in the last two years and still don't 'see' it on my body. When I try on my old XXL clothes and 'swim' in them I laugh and realize I have lost weight. I am 5' 4" short waisted and short arms and legs. I have given up black clothing and realize it doesn't look good on me. Or everyone, as a neutral. I substituted Navy and am happier. I wear more color now and feel it is because my self-esteem has boosted with the weight loss. It's a process. I have 15 pounds to go. Thanks for all your tips and sharing! You look fantastic. Love the royal blue.

I'm proud of myself. I went shopping yesterday and if something didn't "ring a bell", I didn't get it even if it was on sale. I also didn't buy things too small hoping to lose weight. You are my weight loss inspiration. What you are doing makes sense.
Agree with no distressed jeans. I was poor and had to wear jeans with holes. I see no sense in spending good money on already ripped clothes. Also the holes can point to parts of me I want to minimize.
Hi Kathy, I liked your video because it emphasised being intentional when we shop for clothes and shoes. The blazer looked great on you. I agree the shoulder pads are helpful. Just a suggestion re the arm length of jacket because they looked a tad long. So could fold back the end of the sleeves to make a cuff or get the sleeves shortened to suit your arm length.

Sorry Cathy …I have a friend Kathy with a K ….and I just noticed I spelt your name wrong!
That blue top makes your eyes pop. Thanks for this video.
That blue is beautiful on you and the blazer is perfect!
Cathy, thank you for your videos. I came over from Style with Serena. I’ve watched so many videos about dressing and looking good over 50 and some of them are helpful BUT they are all small women. Most clothes look good on small women. I’ve put on about 40 lbs since the pandemic and am finding it hard to get motivated to lose my extra pounds until I have to go out some place nice (ugggh). Thank you for putting yourself out there - I know it must be hard but I really appreciate seeing someone more my size talking about their struggles and triumphs of what to wear. THANK YOU! I too have struggled with Plantar Fasciitis over the years - NOT fun! Someone told me about Birkenstocks - they really helped me. The Birkenstock knock-offs from Amazon work just fine, too. Again, thank you for your service to us larger styled gals - I’m very appreciative.

SO with you on shoes, I never wear shoes that hurt, too miserable!
Hi Cathy, another great video with comfort, style and fashion tips! I love all my vionic shoes ❤ and I'd never buy distressed jeans, won't pay money for fabric with ripped seams or holes in it - just won't do it. I agree with you on being more thoughtful with fashion purchases, I'm like that now. Great tips for all and thanks again 👍 😊
I did buy my first pair of distressed jeans on clearance $10. I have sewn up the knee holes and only wear them to the skating sink. LOL
Agree with you completely...I never buy clothes on clearance....I only buy from Talbots when it's 30,40 or 50% off except for plain long sleeve T shirts as I have found for some odd reason they get little pin holes, so I buy my tees from LL Beans.Who wants to buy jeans with holes and rips in them? At my age I would look ridiculous!
Thank you for posting. Great tips 😊

Like your guidance in all the issues you described.
I think the blazer looks nice on you.
I agree with no itchy, scratchy sweaters! I cannot stand any wool or cashmere on my skin. So I buy cotton or silk sweaters. Plus, I live in a warm climate, and have hot flashes!
Hi Cathy. Loved this video. I do not wear/buy distressed jeans. Not my style. Congrats on your weight loss. You look fantastic. ❤

Excellent advice!
I hear you about finding & purchasing clothes that fit after losing weight. I have lost 25 lbs. since Jan. 2023 , am 5 ft 3 in. & over 60. Struggling w finding pants that fit & not buying oversized baggy tops I don't look good in anymore.

Look at the cut of Sympli tops. The price point may not be for you but the cut skims over lumps and bumps. Look for that style in other brands.

You must find a seamstress. I’m 5 feet 1 inch with an hourglass shape. I wear an 18 dress and size 20 pants. I must have all of my pants altered. If they fit in hips then the waist is up to five inches too big. Plus all pants need to be hemmed. Bring with you the shoes you are most likely to wear with the pants. You won’t get the fit you want if you are measured in your stockinged feet.
Yes. That blazer looks great on you! I'm only 5'2" but I love how blazers look on me when they fit correctly. You found the right style for you. Congrats!
First, I love all of your videos and I always learn something new or affirmation of what I thought to be true. I have lost 45 pounds, ten more to go, and I am now rebuilding my entire wardrobe. I realized I had purchased inexpensive "fast fashion" oversized items to hide under, items that were too big for me when I bought them. I am on a fixed income, but there are affordable classic choices out there made from natural fibers or at the very least recycled man-made materials. Zara and H&M are often criticized, but they work for me where I live in Albania. Believe me, I miss Talbot's and LL Bean!
Great tips!
Thank you for your channel. Glad to see there is someone like me to help dress sensibly and comfortable. 😊

I definitely agree with everything you have said here. My defining factor in buying something is "Do I LOVE it?. I want to be able to only wear things I love. It really helps eliminate a lot of impulse buying.
Love, love, love that sweater on you!
Love that dress in the cruise picture! It’s casual but yet elegant! The pretty lace is what makes it look fancy. And that blazer! The style reminds me of old money equestrian 🐎. Very flattering! I do like Talbots, their fashion. And I like Land’s end. (I like to hold unto the catalogs helping me to put outfits together in my closet). Shoes and boots must be comfortable. I always want to be grateful - thank you for your hard work in putting out your videos. They are very good and helpful. You and your husband and family are always in my prayers 🙏❤🙏

I love when a happy smirk comes out....joyful! I know life can be so difficult. I love the look of the size and length of your earrings. Best so far
Completely agree with you Cathy. Oh i laughed when you talked about blazers😂. Thats just the same as me. I retired at the start of Covid after going through breast cancer. It has taken me a while to find "me" now, psychologically and physically. Im a slightly taller version of you. I too have started to buy better but less. You are also right about getting up and getting "dressed" as opposed to slithering about in tat all day. Its so much healthier for us mentally. Thanks so much for the video and well done on your eating plan. Xx

Hi Cathy, everything you have said in your video is so me !!! I've bought cloths for his I wished I looked but not how I acutely do look 😂 Recently I've emptied my wardrobe of all the things I bought over the years and never worn. I'm only 5 foot tall and an Apple shape. So I understand everything you have done in the past. I've done too. You have given me inspiration to go on my own weight loss journey . Thank you .💖
Great video. I will be 60 next week. I have always been into fashion and over bought a LOT of junk that sat in my closet. Now retired, mostly home, I am very conscious of buying good quality clothes. One thing I am obsessed with is the material I wear. Mostly natural fibers. Cotton is my best friend and I do like merino wool. I too can't stand to itch, wear blazers, distressed ripped jeans, and most wide leg pants, I guess as we get older we can be picky. I do have a wide foot and am sad Talbots does not have Wide width. Thank you for your videos.

Although my birth certificate says I’m 70, I still can’t believe it. I refuse to be a frumpy old lady wearing oversized flower print tops over jogging pants. Whenever leaving the house other than to take out the trash for weekly curbside pick up, I always apply brow gel brushed with a mascara wand so my brows don’t look like they’ve been darkened with a Sharpie marker, lashes and red lipstick. I ordered brown lashes from Amazon that don’t make me look like Bambi. It was tricky learning how to apply them but because the application fee at the lash shop is $15, I got a 15x magnifying mirror and practiced. You have to experiment to find the right adhesive and apply it sparingly. Even if you wear no other makeup, lipstick and lashes glam up your look.
Thank you for taking us on your weight loss journey and how to dress along the way. You're a real girl inspiration, thank you!
Cathy this is awesome. So many of us bought into the "fast fashion" thing for too many years. You are right on with all of your tips here. I just went to a high end estate sale and purchased 4 tops, a vintage coat, and a brand new high end purse. Everything is flattering with those nice details, like nicer buttons, that just add a touch of class and make it more polished and unique. All of the pieces were like new. I saved over $2000. And YES what you said about the shoes. Everyone woman needs to learn this. Thanks so much.
I agree with you completely but hadn't acknowledged it but if you like how you dress and make an effort, it makes you more productive. Thank you for this video.

I'm with you on fast fashion for all the reasons stated (and then some...). Some people do not have a lot of money and have to purchase fast fashion, so no judgement. I have a lot of Talbots clothes from years ago that I still have, for example. I buy mid price range but good quality. (Btw, your complexion is glowing!)

Always good to hear from you, Cathy! Regarding shoes: if any of you (and men) have problem feet for any reason -especially diabetes- the British line "Cosyfeet" is a godsend. Wonderful service and shipping to USA. Cathy, you are so good to pass on wardrobe sites, so these shoes/hosiery are a life saver. Cheers!
The small holes near belt area happen on high quality tops as well!!! Very frustrating

Hi Cathy, You look great! I have a pair of distressed jeans from Kut from the Kloth. They are very stylish and no skin shows in any of the few places where the fabric is mildly distressed. They are fun for casual Friday and the weekend. Take care of yourself and many prayers for your husband. Carol

Hi Cathy. Your tips are sound. I don’t buy fast fashion any more either. If I try something on and it doesn’t make me feel good, I don’t buy it. I am definitely not into uncomfortable clothes and shoes. I have never worn distressed jeans, they look so horrible. I had trouble finding a summer blazer . I did eventually find one but I need to put shoulder pads in it. Love L🌺🌺

I've stopped buying blazers too, even though I absolutely love the look of them. I'm a petite with a really high waist, and even a single button blazer is wrong as the button always hits me mid stomach instead of the waist - nothing can be done about it if there is a button hole (if you wear it unbuttoned you can still see that it's in the wrong place). Not really willing to have one custom made! Totally agree with not wearing things that are too big - that never looks good.
Hi Cathy, I love your hair! I too love minimal amount of clothing but I do buy quality. I am also on a weight loss journey, so I do shop at consignment or thrifty stores right now as I am losing weight.
@bernadettedevereaux8694
6 ай бұрын
Before retiring, my work-sister told me about a good consignment shop. It was a life changing revelation. The quality and condition of the garments is quite high versus thrift shop finds. I wear a size 18/20 and although many of the cuter clothes are in smaller sizes, I still find plenty to choose from in my size. I’m 5 feet 1 inch so I have to be careful when buying blazers or coats. I try to look for blazers or suit jackets at end just below my waist otherwise I look like I’m wearing a Zoot suit from the 1940s. It is also a great help to find a seamstress to shorten sleeves or hems. Hemlines that are just below the knee are most flattering on me.
Well said. I agree! TFS ❤️

GREAT video. Very informative and good guidance. I'm doing minimalism, neutrals only, try to own at max x2 of each garment type [not undergarments!] . It's not for everyone, but I love the half empty closet and the reduction in decision fatigue. Wearing the same dress daily for a year and it ends in 24 days! 😂 Thankfully, I'm sick of this dress! 😅 Happy holidays. You look amazing. I love your style!

Distressed jeans are out. Navy, black, brown are great.
Now that I’m wearing straight or boot cut jeans, skinny pants look unbalanced.

Great video & nice tips! Please don’t forget about Mercari too when it comes to online secondhand shopping! I’ve gotten some great pieces there at super prices!

Mercari is US …. 🙁
Distressed Jean's? Over fifty? Not a good choice for me. A nice pair of indigo Jean's is the way to go.
Wonderful advice nice channel

I’ve stopped buying cheap stuff. I used to get cheap clothes and they’d look awful after a couple of wearing. I love that sweater you have on, I got it. Talbots clothes last forever, I know because I’ve had most of my good things for 20 plus years. My sister looks great in distressed jeans so I tried them on and looked awful. I wish I could subscribe more than once, I love your channel.

I totally agree! Love Talbots!!
I dislike distressed jeans heartily. I saw a young woman yesterday who had giant intentional tears in her jeans, and all I could think was that her legs must be so cold! I don't think they look good on anyone, even tall, slim people.

I spent my entire adult life avoiding tattered clothing. I don’t understand why people intentionally buy jeans only workmen would wear.
Kathy, I love your videos. We are so alike - same age, same style, same opinions on clothes and what looks best on our body types, and same ideas about being comfortable. Congratulations on your weight loss. I am struggling with weight issues, it is so hard once I hit menopause. I will have to search your videos, but was curious what your thoughts are on hormone replacement? I am on a loss dose patch of estrogen and I take progesterone night. This has helped with the hot flashes, but I still get some night sweats😅. Ah the joys of getting older. 🎉 Anyway keep up the great videos and being true to yourself!

Hi. Great video. I love the black dress that you wore on the cruise deck. So pretty. Do you have a link for that dress? Thank you!

The dress is no longer available. It was from Chico's from a while back. I keep looking, but can't find anything similar.
I’m 5’4” plus size and get regular plus size clothes. I’m so used to wearing longer tops due to this that I’m not sure what a proper fit is. Your videos help me see how a top can fit our body type. Not many brands make plus size petites. I’ll check out Talbots. Lands End does make coats in Plus Size petites.

Land's End no longer offers Petite Plus sizes. I spoke with customer support when I saw that all of their Petite Plus items were down to the last dregs, and they told me that Petite Plus sizes were discontinued.

Good morning Cathy. Thanks for the great tips - I agree with all of them - I've started only doing quality as well. One comment about the blazer from Spanx - it is attractive but it looks a little big on you. It could be just the way it showed up on the camera, but it looks bulky not just oversized. I'm like you - at 5 ft tall trying to find a blazer/suit jacket that looks good is difficult. Have a great week. Susanne

Thanks Susanne. I'm wondering if I should size down to an XL or it could just be that it's oversized.

@@StyleWithCathyOver50 I’d be tempted to order the XL and try them side by side to see which fits better. Then return the other one. The cut suits you.
I love the visuals you add in your videos! I can't stand 99% talk in other's videos

I don’t like distressed jeans with rips or jeans with sanding or jeans with built-in creases because I like a classic look. To me, it looks disheveled. Regarding Blazers, I am bigger busted, and finally figured out that the best blazer for me is one that has at least two buttons. A blazer that just has one button is going to emphasize my chest in a way that I don’t want emphasized. I like the longer blazer on you. It looks good! Finally, some of my favorite clothes I have gotten at Goodwill. Unfortunately, in my area, they have not reopened the dressing rooms so it’s harder to buy clothes there now.

It is frustrating that their dressing rooms are still closed. As if dressing rooms have anything to do with Covid.
Oh tes yourstarting ti look great keep goibg I have small shoulders Good going
Have you tried blazers with the button a bit higher up on it? It might not gap across the chest as much.
Love your hair in this video, Cathy!

Thank you so much, me too!
Hi Cathy, I agree with everything you said. I also stopped buying clothes that loose their shape after a wash, specially clothes from Outlets. Those are majorly made cheap to sell cheap. And buying many cheap clothes and discarding them is not good for the environment. Landfills are full of them. And anyway, you tend to wear the same clothes over and over again so why have so many? Thanks for another informative video Cathy and have a good day. Hugs to you and your husband. 💕🫂

Thank you Manon! I have never been able to find anything that I liked at an outlet store other than underwear. 😆 I remember seeing on some news program that brands make a more inexpensive line to sell in outlets so people think that they are getting a deal. Have a great day! 💖

@@StyleWithCathyOver50 I saw the same story. I used to buy clothes at the outlets and when I got a t-shirt from a designer name that went all crooked after one wash, I knew that it wasn't worth the money. Now I buy carefully and take advantage of sales. 😊
I just love distressed jeans! I have just 2 pairs. One a light wash the other a dark jeans! I always grab for those! Btw I’m 66! I also do not wear any flats! Heels (not high) are much more comfortable! I don’t care for the blazer on you. I don’t like them on me either!

Distressed jeans are just slumming. Middle/upper class women trying to look poor. It's black face about poor people.
