Weight Loss Journey: Episode 7: One Year After Bariatric Surgery

Ғылым және технология

CHI Health Weight Management Program
www.chihealth.com/en/services...
My name is Tara Gustin. I'm 43 years old. Just over a year ago, I had gastric bypass surgery and I'm down 89 pounds.
Anybody that I can talk to, that I can help get past the fear of this process, I'm all for it.
I look back at pictures and remember being so unhappy with myself and how tired and irritable I felt. Now a year later I sleep well. I'm off medications, I'm healthier, I'm active - I think I'm more pleasant to be around. Life is wonderful.
I'm surprised at how different I look now. My features are a lot more prominent than they were before. You don't realize how eyes become squinty when your face is so full. I feel like I've been given a second chance at life. I get to make all these wonderful memories with my kids. These are things I couldn't do a year ago.
I feel younger just by virtue of the fact I can do things I couldn't do before.
I don't know if God put me in this place so I could help other people. I was terrified; I thought this was going to be a long drawn out process of recovery that I would feel bad for a long time. I was terrified this wasn't going to work for me. None of diets I had been on before worked for me. Now I see this does work, it's not as scary as I thought it was going to be. It's not as hard to recover as I thought it would be and it's not as long of a process as I thought it was going to be.
I thought I would miss fried food. I grew up in the South where everything is fried and I can honestly tell you a year later I don't miss fried food at all. I crave fruit now. Every now and then I have something I shouldn't and my body lets me know.
I no longer take medicine for diabetes high blood pressure or high cholesterol anymore and it's wonderful. Knowing I don't have those health issues anymore, I can't tell you what a relief it is.
It was wonderful cleaning out my closet
As I lose weight, something gets a little big, I get rid of it. I will never go back to being obese. There's no food on the face of this earth worth it.

Day 1 after the surgery is no picnic. It’s good that pain because you will remember how you felt and you never take this surgery for granted. 30 hrs after the surgery you will feel instantly better. I couldn’t walk very well on day one. If you can do it it’s the best thing you can do. You want those anesthesia gassed out of you and you will feel wonderful on day 2. I didn’t have to take any pain meds when I got home. You’ll be fine. Just listen to the drs and what they tell you. You will be fine.

If you have to toot or belch, DO NOT hold it back no matter who is there. It’s not easy to do for the first week so if the urge comes, embrace it. It causes pain not to do it and it’s not worth it, especially when your suppose to keep up with the fluids.

I had Gastric Bypass 10/16/19 and I've lost 63lbs now. I did lose muscle mass so I'm certain I need more than just 60g of protein a day but I'm doing workouts at the gym every other day and I feel wonderful . I have lost alot of hair just like what she stated. So I plan on spending alot of money on protein products and supplements

I have my last appointment on July 15, 2020, along with my last nicotine screening on the same day, then I will be getting my surgery date the following week so I can then prepare for the eoux-en-y gastric bypass surgery. I am very nervous about this whole surgery but if it increases my chances of living a longer healthier life with my son I am willing to go through with it all including the after surgery pain. I have already lost 15 pounds just by not drinking soda for 3 weeks.

Beauty With Des i am doing a lot better. I am able to get 60 g of protein now and I am moving into soft foods. I exercise for 45-60 min a day jogging and strength training. I'm down almost 40lbs but I have seen a stall since bringing food into my diet which is common but the scale is moving again. I'm also doing a modified version of keto because I am vegetarian not by choice but because I was having trouble digesting meat. Fish worked fine but I just ended it all. And fruit i eat in moderation to stay in ketosis. I have more energy than ever. Hope this helps.

Hi, how are you ? This bariatric surgery is a medical error, just as errors occur in any other profession. I have two acquaintances of mine who died because of this surgery. One had little stomach and when she went to eat a snack, the little stomach she had was unable to digest it, and then she got severe pains in her stomach, feeling sick and died. The other acquaintance of mine, became weak and when she ate, her intestines could no longer retain nutrients from food and she died of malnutrition. And when she was alive, she kept passing out fainting from weakness, even eating and eating right. Her stomach became small and so the body did not absorb food for it to survive. With so little stomach left in it, they cut a part of it out, and didn’t keep the tissue to be frozen, so that if she eventually needed to undo the surgery, put it back in it again. So how do you do it? And there was another one that I forgot to mention. That the internal scar of the surgery became very thin and broke, causing her stomach to fall into her body and she died instantly. I do not know how they have not yet banned this surgery, with so many people who give problems, after they went through it. Not to say them all. Be careful. Why go through this? Dieting, without being radical and exercising, is the best thing. And examine the patient to see why he doesn't lose weight. I currently, when I eat only two tablespoons of rice on the plate and eat at regular times. It helped me a little to maintain the weight. Hugs.
