WEIGHT LOSS CULT?! Teddi Mellencamp's “All In" Program

Teddi Mellencamp, John Mellencamp's daughter and former figure on the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has been under fire lately for her "accountability" program, All In by Teddi as details from this very secretive program have been released. Customers of the program anonymously leaked screenshots of aggressive texts from their coaches, as well as the "meal plans" they were encouraged to eat. Countless dieticians have weighed in on the program and warned that it is extremely dangerous, not beneficial, and may even lead to ed's. In this video I analyze the program and all of it's disturbing details.

I am the mother of a daughter with anorexia. 600cal a day is dangerous and the hour of cardio is ridiculous. That is what my daughter did and she nearly died three times in five years. ED treatment centres don't even weigh you every day because EVERYBODY fluctuates over 24 hours. The one my daughter was in, weighed her twice a week and gains/losses were looked at once a week. People in ED centres are forced to be on complete bed rest except to go to the bathroom or between rooms until you start gaining and then you can go for a five minute walk. I'm sorry. This makes me so angry. By being in such a calorie deficit malnourishes your brain as well as the rest of your body.

There are some powerful people in there. Hopefully they can shine a light on this crap in the States (I live in New Zealand.) I love your channel. Keep on doing what you're doing. It's so important that people know what is going on behind the scenes, especially at this time when people are losing jobs and they are more vulnerable than usual. Correct. I was in treatment for an ED (that stemmed from my OCD). I was in patient 4 months and out patient 11. In inpatient they would weigh us once a week. Outpatient was a lot more laxed so once a month. It’s ridiculous to think that your weight will drastically change day to day.

@4Freedom4All I never really watched that show but I remember seeing one episode where they tried to create drama by making one of the contestants go through some kind of maze on a very hot day and putting some cold alcoholic drinks there to "tempt her" (no idea why? I thought the goal was to facilitate losing weight not make it harder??). She was saying how it was so hot and she was so thirsty so she gave in and had the drinks. And I just thought why not give her water if she's so thirsty, it just made no sense. I didn't realize that dehydration was an intentional part of their process. Such a strange concept. Like I feel like a weight loss boot camp sounds like it could be very effective, but not when they're dehydrating you. That's just asking for serious health issues.

@@gabbyb9418 - Wow. Thanks for being so vulnerable, because I actually went through a remarkably similar experience. Started following the “thinspo” and “ED positive” blogs and forums - mainly around 2010ish. I was 16 at the time. I was struggling with insecurity, I was overweight, and as a teenager, I think we all naturally struggle with image issues at some point in our lives. I’m an only child - I don’t have any full-siblings, or half-siblings, or step-siblings or anything. So naturally, I was looking for some sort of camaraderie, acceptance, companionship, and overall friendship. The ED positive blogs provided that for me in a way. Nowadays, it’s very acceptable to have the “instagram model/Kardashian” body, which were literally emulated off of Latina and Black women… but I digress. (Thick thighs, voluminous booty, curvy, etc.) But in 2010-2013ish, it was very beautiful and trendy to be extremely thin. Some people would even refer to it as “Heroin chic” - which is absolutely evil and horrific. (Collarbones showing, a thigh gap, bony hip bones, etc.) Anyway… I tried diligently at an ED. Had a coach, I was encouraged to wear a “red” bracelet as a way to spot other “ana girls” at my school. I was advised on how to suppress my appetite, which diet pills to use, etc. After about a month, I wasn’t having much success, so one of the girls in the group suggested I try BN. She coached me on what “safe foods” to eat, how to purge quietly, etc. I was consistent with the BN for about… 4 days. After those 4 days, I started experiencing HORRIBLE chest pain due to the purging. Pain in that hollow part in your chest, in-between your boobs. The chest pain alone immediately made me stop and it terrified me. Never fell down the horrible rabbit role, but I easily could have. Interestingly, ED’s are more about control and treating the underlying trauma and mental health issues that are unresolved. It’s never really about weight, food, or appearance at all. Obviously, you and I were going through a lot in our lives, but we were able to stop and recognize that this wasn’t okay, and that we will endure health issues for the rest of our lives if we don’t stop immediately. And we did. But honestly, we had the perfect recipe for a debilitating ED, but we somehow didn’t develop one long-term. I’m not sure if there’s specific brain chemistry that maybe makes girls (and boys) predisposed to an ED, but I do find it intriguing that we were able to stop, and others weren’t. I wonder why that is.

Just cuz something is unnatural doesn't mean it's bad

  • @anname2678

    @anname2678

@4Freedom4All I meant that nothing in our world is natural anymore. What even is natural? Factory farming isn't. Most our vegetables are completely different from their wild forms. Plants are grown nowadays in greenhouses is that natural? I'm just saying natural doesn't equal good and unnatural doesn't equal bad and that the definition of natural is very flawed. I NEVER said a fast food diet is healthy? I also don't condemn fast food. You shouldn't eat it regularly but you can eat a burger once a week without getting unhealthy. Doesn't matter if that burger is vegan or not. I actually gained some weight and muscles on my vegan diet because I try to be healthier and eat better. I tracked my nutrients in the beginning to make sure I get all my protein and stuff. I get blood checks to make sure I'm fine and so far everything looks good. Ofc I supplement b12 and vitamin d(which everyone from a northern country should take) I think a vegan diet is just as healthy or unhealthy as a "normal" one. I do it for the animals and I think a positive side effect is that I eat healthier because I think more about what I eat.

I'm not even a business major and I know word of mouth is important. The mere fact they want have an NDA indicates they are doing something unethical at best and illegal at worst.

I have never seen them address the mental damage from the years of torment from being bullied and having their weight be targeted by everyone including medical professionals who have no idea what they are doing. When is society going to actually admit that we are not helping people who are overweight by being assholes.

I just found your video and honestly as I was watching it, I kind of had a little PTSD. I was a member of this program last year. It was my new year resolution commitment. After just 7 weeks of doing it I was put in the hospital because of the diet they put me on because I needed to loose so much weight in their eyes. I had to have emergency surgery. With that the doctor I had put me on a 5150 hold for 72 hours because I kept trying to update my "coach" as to my condition, trying to weigh myself and continue with the cardio workouts, after enduring a 5 hour surgery on my stomach and intestines. In the 7 weeks I did the program I lost just over 40 pounds, which I now know was very bad. I am in therapy and can now say that I have body dysmorphic disorder, and major anxiety (Panic Attacks) as a result of what was said to me by my "coach". I am getting better but it has been a long road to recovery for me. I thank that emergency room doctor for saving my life and helping me to understand that what was happening was not okay.

Honestly all these "diets" are extremely harmful in my opinion because their focal point is restriction. Dieting does not automatically mean restricting your food intake. Sure that can be a part of it but a good diet is one that suits your body. We metabolize things differently, some of us need more of certain vitamins or need less raw meat or whatever. That's why real dieticians can be incredibly helpful in finding a diet that will be good for you because they focus on *your* needs. On top of that if someone really wants to lose weight, excessive restriction is... Bad. Switching out certain types of foods or cutting back on some things is much more effective and much healthier!!! Food and working out should never be something you dread or something that makes you feel shitty. Both are meant to increase your health (both physical AND mental) and make you feel good. F*ck toxic weight loss culture

Big agree!!!!! Lots of people actually go on specific diets to GAIN weight. I have several friends and loved ones who need to eat high-calorie diets and monitor their food intake very closely to ensure their health is alright. My girlfriend has gastroporesis and another friend of ours is chronically underweight. Both of them are on sort of similar diets to PREVENT them from losing weight. Tons of people ask them about their diets and how they got so skinny, as if it’s something to be desired. Both of these wonderful women are skinny because they’re sick. It’s not something they wanted or needed and the fact that they’re being pushed away from diets intended to make them healthier in favor of wasting away to become even skinnier.

I also don't like when people notice I've gained weight and are happy for me and say something because I also struggled with anorexia since before I was a teenager. I guess it's probably good to just not comment on anyone's weight at all unless you're v close and know they are on a weight loss journey and would enjoy a nice comment. Yikes! I’m only like 12 minutes in and already cringing. They are going to kill someone. Programs are not one size fits all, and someone needs to find what works for them and they want to do. I’m a retired personal trainer (was one for seven-ish years) because I absolutely hate traditional gyms and basic workouts. I ended up joining a Cirque troupe and became an aerialist/Lyra trainer. That works for me, but won’t work for others. The All In is essentially perpetuating starvation diets and eating disorders. It’s very dangerous, and reminiscent of Linda Laura Hazzard’s Starvation Heights. Also, never weight yourself daily. Weigh yourself once a week just after going to the bathroom first thing in the morning. This is going to be your most accurate weight. You’ll also be more motivated when you see positive results weekly instead of daily. I’ve taken client’s and even my BFF’s scale because they became to attached to it.

You can skip but not more than 2 consecutive days - weigh in : same time , minimal clothing weekly. - hydrate! - mix resistance and cardio. - get a consult with dietician if you're with other diseases - make your goal about your health not your looks. It follows - find out what your bmi is. Then make it your goal to get into the normal range. - sleep 8 hours per day - and if you have heart disease, diabetes or breastfeeding, please consult a professional. - these are just stepping stones , from these your diet plan and weight loss can become unique to you ( hopefully in a healthy way)

It's also worth noting that weight loss isn't inherently a good or bad thing-- there's a lot of pressure on people to lose weight and be "healthy" but people's bodies are naturally going to be different sizes regardless of what they eat and it's a LOT more important to eat enough every day than it is to lose weight. Like, you need food to fuel your body so you can continue to do everything you love to do. Stuff like this preys on women of all sizes who are taught to hate their bodies from a young age. We all, myself included, have a lot to unlearn, but no matter what size you are your body is beautiful because it is yours and because it keeps you alive.

I'm a dietician and I was getting more and more worried with every minute of the video. This program is an easy way to eating disorders and illnesses. It's horrible how those 'coaches' treat their clients! First I would never call people coming to me for help because they're struggling with weight 'clients' - they're PATIENTS, they give me lab tests and medical history so that I can see what is best for them. IT'S NOT ONE SIZE FITS ALL. Ok you have to be more strict with some patients cause they need it but never rude! You can't say 'do this or you're out' cause guess what? They're gonna drop out , get discouraged or even scared and never see you or any dietician/personal trainer ever again. Those people should be stopped. Giving people diet advice without proper education needs to be stopped. I've seen people with destroyed hormonal system after a personal trainer/diet coach after a week long online course gave them 'personalized' diet with foods they can't consume. Like giving gluten to a woman with celiac disease who didn't know she had it but had almost every symptom that registered dietician caught right away. They put people lives in danger. Sorry for a long comment but this is something I'm passionate about. I really love your channel and I think it's awesome what you do ❤️

When I heard the 400-500cal/day plus 1hr cardio it reminded me of how my uncle died. He was fasting sunrise to sunset for religious reasons, when to the gym and when into cardiac arrest. I honestly think that All In should be sued for possibly endangering their clients and also forcibly doing so by not issuing a refund. Or at the very least get into legal trouble for promoting this kind of very dangerous and life threatening behavior. I would also like to add (as someone who’s mom had worked a lot in the legal courts and whatnot) an NDA is only enforced/legally binding for a set amount of time. an NDA can also be voided in court if the language is too broad or if “catch all” terms are used in the document. Furthermore unreasonable behavior such as demanding that the time where confidentiality is binding is indefinite can also void a NDA contract.

Hey, guys. So, I’m not a nutritionist or anything but I’ve tried so many damn weight loss products and even did phentermine through my doctor. Yes, I lost a bit of weight here & there but I have endometriosis, Adenomyosis, fibromyalgia, AND PCOS. So, obviously the weight loss Gods see me as a mortal enemy or something. 😂 However, truly the healthiest thing you can do is hike up your water intake, control your portions, and try to be active even if it’s cleaning the house. As someone who’s horrible pain rears it’s ugly head with every bit of activity I do, I get how hard it is to get moving. I walk 3 times a week & my pain is always through the roof when I get home. However, it’s worth it to me because I don’t want to be at the biggest I’ve ever been. I never listened to people who told there was no “quick fix” but it’s true. Now, I personally have found that the Slimfast Keto “diet pills” DO help me with the energy I need seeing as how my fatigue gets the best of me all the time but that’s not for everyone. Seriously, just drink a lot of water, eat as healthy as you can, and CONTROL YOUR PORTIONS. If you can add activity by just cleaning the house, going on even slow walks, anything like that then you’re good. Please remember, YOUR WEIGHT DOES NOT DEFINE YOU. Also, just because the scale says you’re “overweight” doesn’t mean you are because it doesn’t always measure muscle, etc. Obviously talk to your doctor about everything but there really isn’t much else we can do, believe me- I’ve lost so much money trying everything. Best wishes! xx

The school pickup in LA is brutal, not to mention Whole Foods, kids bday parties, yoga class, divorce court. Love your videos- I’ve been binging them recently and they’re super informative and just nice to listen to or watch. My only criticism with this video is that, when using the BITE Model, you just went through the headers and didn’t go through the actual points under each one. It’s really easy to pick out things that match the headers for any environment: for example, at work they make you do certain tasks and only take breaks at certain times (behavior control). But the people I’ve listened to who genuinely analyze prominent cults and culty major religions go through the different points and analyze how much each one actually applies. It would have resulted in more interesting and thoughtful commentary, in my opinion. Other than that, great video!

This program makes me think of when i was struggling with my E.D back in 2013 to about 2018 when i go help. Still struggle as of 2021 but its not like how it was in those 5 years. Since the start of high school (2013 when i was 12 to 13yo) i developed at toxic relationship with my weight and food in general. (weighing myself once a month turned to weekly turned to daily turned to hourly..it was horrible) It became so bad i was only eating one meal a day....dinner consisting of potato, pea, carrots and a portion of meat. I would pass out at least once a week. I ended up in therapy (2018 17 to 18yo) and even though i still have issues with eating breakfast in the morning i now work with a dietitian where i meal prep 21 meals a week, 3 meals a day for 7 days. They are quick simple, homemade meals that total to 1300 to 1500 calories a day. This helps me put on some weight as im only 60kg as a 21 year old woman. I've always been a skinny girl but always had issues of body positivity as it was always "you should be happy your so skinny" "you didn't even try to lose weight" these people didn't realise it works the other way too. I'm hoping to at least put a few more kg on me and hopeful bulk up my arms as they are twig and can barely even tie my hair up in the morning.. I'm proud of how far ive come but i know ive still got a way to go.

Ok, I just found YT had randomly unsubscribed me from your channel. I still got your videos recommended to me so I didn't give it too much thought, but given this became a serious issue with some creators, I checked and sure enough! Fixed it, subscribed again 💜✨

When you start to talk about diets and accountability, you twist the mindset of "getting healthy" into a morality thing, which creates guilt and disordered eating. :(

So glad you addressed this!!! I researched her program a bit, just because I used to watch the show. It was despicable. I cannot believe people are still peddling this sort of unhealthy behavior. So sad.
