    as a bassist in a metal band heavily inspired by thrash rhythm guitar, I find myself doing flutters like this a lot as fills. subtle on bass, but add a nice depth. just jump an octave if ya really want it noticeable lol

    Metal can happen regardless of setup - you don't even have to be playing the guitar. It's more defined by the style of playing, largely making use of minor, harmonic minor, phrygian, etc. scales, with a blues influence. Probably more to the point of your question, that evil, face-melting guitar tone is primarily the product of the amplifier, speaker, effects pedals, and to a lesser extent, the pickups in the guitar that translate the vibration of the strings into electrical current.

  • @CullenDelmore
    @CullenDelmore12 жыл бұрын

    (Sorry for splitting this, but I got cut off) A basic metal sound can be achieved using any old amplifier and guitar, with a decent distortion pedal in between, e.g. the Boss MT-2 and ML-2. These are just the ones I'm familiar with.

    No, it's a pinch harmonic. For a natural harmonic, you pick the open string in one of the harmonic positions, but he's fretting the string at the third fret. It would be the same to just tap the harmonic position on the fretted note, but when playing at that speed, the logical thing to use would be an artificial harmonic.
