I was diagnosed ASD and ADHD just a few years ago at 44. Your channel is the first information source I've found that's really helping me to understand my ADHD and that many of the problems I'm having now probably stem from it, and not ASD. Thank you for providing this super helpful info!

Dear Dr Barkley, Thank you so much for your videos and the updates about current studies. It is great to see so much progress in the field. My wife and both kids have the inattentive type ADD. In our specific situation, the emotional aspect of ADD causes the most problems. Adult life is full of social interactions. The emotional aspect of ADD and adopted coping mechanisms ends up defining what we do and how we live. (My son is also addicted to screens).

50 studies in one week is great! I’m planning on doing German summaries of your research videos as they are very interesting but I just can’t find the right time window in which I’m motivated, have the time for it and my wife isn’t in homeoffice. But the day will come 😅

May the Fourth be with you sir! Pop quiz, is golf a game or a sport? Generally screen time is a societal aspiration, so your skepticism seems justified. My device use is horrific but that's bc work and life both demand almost constant engagement with technology. I find planning apps are vital in both cases to retain a grip on control in a vortex of mental chaos....

Thank you, Dr. Barkley, for all of your research, content, presentation, information, and most of all, genuine care for the well-being of those who (may) have ADHD. I have been using Concerta for my own ADHD, and through your videos, I learned that ADHD can be hereditary. Thus I got my daughter screened, and her psychiatrist first had us go through behavior modification, but it did very little to help. The psychiatrist agreed to give our daughter medication, but it was Respirdal (Risperidone). After having done a bit of research on the internet, it seems like Risperidone comes with too many risks and side effects. Do you have any thoughts on this antipsychotic drug to treat ADHD? Thank you very much,

I was a teenager in the late 90's. I was homeschooled right up until I was 14 when my parents got divorced and my mom had to go back to work, so I went into public highschool as a freshman. Obviously that'd be hard on anyone but my ability to regulate and process the emotions that came with it was awful compared to my siblings. Knowing the link between my ADHD and my inability to regulate my emotions would have been a whole lot more useful to my mom than the typical focus on... well... focus.

Very interesting correlation between asthma/atopical dermatitis and ADHD. I had always belived my skin problems have a neurological origin. Of course maybe I'm wrong and it may be that this is something genetic causing skin, lungs, and ADD issues altogether. This is a new perspective.

Many journals and some websites like Cochrane publish reviews and meta analyses. Cochrane tends to specialize more in them but that doesn’t make them any better than other publication outlets who also, publish peer reviewed articles and meta analyses. You can learn more about Cochrane from their website and a further search of the internet. You might try using Google scholar as well for your browsing of the journals. Be well.

I started wondering if the depression/anxiety is connected to the lack of good emotional regulation; if you're constantly feeling strong feelings your hormone system must be working more than neurotypical people. That's only my speculation.

Am I correct, by saying Dr Gabor Mate believes adhd is nurtured, not nature? Although he may have said, ADHD can lay dormant and doesn’t express unless enough stress is experienced?

Hey, I am not a researcher, but raised in a very religious environment (Catholic Christianity). I received my diagnosis towards my 30s. I think that a way how society treated many of our symptoms, especially in impulsivity and emotional (dis) regulation through religious practices. Having the feeling that an universal force always judges and watches, provides a lot of external motivation to control impulsivity which might have negative effects (e.g. The vices).

@@testsubject8903 IF Dr Barkley has said this - 1) What if the diagnosis is wrong, like in the case of Richard Fee. His Psychiatrist was convinced he had it. We all know how that ended up. 2) What if the person with ADHD doesn't need medication and can manage without it? 3) What if it causes side effects like high blood pressure, tachycardia, jitteriness, headaches? 4) What if CBT, exercise, diet, marijuana works better for them?
