Then he says that, a self-proclaim feminist, was wearing a uterus hat and climbing on top of a police car. Meaning that, maybe there are "different kinds of feminists". Different levels. In one extreme we have some who are extremely chill and just approve the cause. in the other extreme, we have that woman. 5 жыл бұрын
owen alioto Mostly true, but the reason that one would identify as feminist and not egalitarian is because, in order to secure equality, you have to identify a problem. Egalitarianism while ideal, is vague when it comes to solving and identifying a problem.
@owen-cu6gr
5 жыл бұрын
How so? Of course egalitarianism is vague; it applies to a wide spectrum of ideas regarding equality. So is feminism. An egalitarian can view problems against women through the eyes of egalitarianism and see it as unfair. A feminist can do the same. However, egalitarians can also view other problems through that lens, such as sexism against men, and work equally to combat that. A true egalitarian would see equal rights for women as desirable. With either one, it relies entirely on the individual. You're argument falls apart. Furthermore, feminism has in many cases fought against equality, and created an us or them mentality in them minds of many of its followers. See the comment by Alex Rodriguez; either you're one of us, or you're not a good person. Such actions do not contradict feminism; the advocacy of rights for women. However, they do contradict egalitarianism; for why should widening the lens through which to view inequality be bad? An egalitarian would look down on feminism, as the unnecessary restriction of trying to help the world and as even egalitarian. Why help women, but not men? Why fight one type of inequality when all inequality should be fought, tooth and nail?
@CassieCaaat
5 жыл бұрын
owen alioto And you missed the point. Feminism identifies a problem, namely being that in today’s society it is a fact that men are treated with more privilege than women. Egalitarianism like I said, is ideal, but doesn’t identify a problem. The more specific you are with identifying an issue the more likely that issue is to be solved. If you were a true egalitarian you wouldn’t look down on anyone because of their beliefs in the first place. As I stated before, I agreed with most of what you said, I don’t understand why you’re trying to be so combative about this.
I swear I love the look on their face when they're about to say a really good joke they wrote. They aren't smiling, but damn they know people are about to crack up
