    Hey! I don't know if I included it in this video or the last one (or maybe I just forgot in total) but she does have a little cut on the inside of her right leg. She was getting cold hosed, and wrapped so it would heal. It's taking awhile to heal, but she's just fine now (week 6 currently). These clips were when the cut was still fresh. It also doesn't help that the ground is super uneven in the roundpen, and her hooves are in desperate need of a trim. She's all set now.

    I’ve watched all your videos and... 1. Thank you for making videos which I can recommend to my young horse-loving grandchildren! (No bad language) 2. For the ignorant (me) you are so informative. I am amazed at what you are able to do with these horses. 3. I was unfamiliar with the wild mustang programs. How wonderful. 4. I love seeing your love for these animals. 5. Imho, learning more about how you started and progressed with training horses would be interesting. Maybe some “story times” ? That’s all. Thanks for teaching this ol’ grandpa!

    Excellent progress with this Mare, no bond yet, but I can see it in the near future. I love your method of training with this difficult to read horse. Sam you have the perfection of patience. Your slow movements with Rue are extremely consistent...so much so that even I relax. She is winning me over big time. Also got a bit of a chuckle when she became a bit spunky. And I love how you fine tune your actions to her specific needs. Just awesome! Nibbling on your toes...it is hard to back off with such an easy target. Thanks for everything! Great video!

    This mare came to you with a personality that included self confidence and some dominance. That is not true for all mustangs. Do you have any preferences about that? Are dominant horses more of a challenge to train. After intelligent training, do dominant horses end up being different from horses that are more naturally cooperative?

    I think this one I bought from a Dover Saddlery somewhere. It's a Pessoa! If you aren't going to ride in it though, and mainly use the saddle for desensitizing, I'd just get a used Wintec or Circuit saddle- they are a little cheaper (makes me feel less bad about them getting beat up haha).

    Out of curiosity, do you use parts of CA’s method in your training? I know that he uses methods that are used by many trainers, however I’ve seen you use some methods that I’ve only ever seen him use. Such as tying to the back of the saddle (a.k.a. Checking around to the tail)

  • @SamVanFleet

    @SamVanFleet

    4 жыл бұрын

    Maybe. I haven't watched any of his DVDs/videos or learned from him, so I don't know. A lot of trainers teach their horse's to flex/bend by tying around the belly/to a saddle/to the tail that aren't Clinton Anderson people. Actually most of my trainer friend's do

  • @larkluvshorses7631

    @larkluvshorses7631

    Sam VanFleet Interesting. I’ve just never seen another trainer do that. I like to mix his methods along with several others to train my own horses. Love watching your videos!

  • @katiek.8808

    @katiek.8808

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Lark LuvsHorses Clinton’s exercises are not exclusive to him. It’s the order of the exercises that make The Method. No offense to Sam I think she does pretty good, however she would see faster progress if she used The Method. By day 19 this horse should have 10 or so rides on her(definitely be out of the roundpen) and getting ready to go out on the trail. I would highly recommend the Colt Starting series. Maybe I take competition to seriously, but I would want to be on the horse at the start of the second week and be on the trail by the start of the second month.

  • @larkluvshorses7631

    @larkluvshorses7631

    4 жыл бұрын

    Katie K. Oh I’m aware, that’s just one exercise that I’ve only ever seen Clinton use. The method is amazing and could probably make things go faster, but everyone has their own way of doing things and there’s nothing wrong with going a little slower.

  • @katiek.8808

    @katiek.8808

    4 жыл бұрын

    @Lark LuvsHorses like I said I might be more competitive. Even though part of me feels the whole go slower just means to creep and sneak around, and a bit of a cop out for fear and lack of knowledge.

    I guess that was the way it was in week 3.. there was no bonding, well.. if I look closely the mare is at that point that she is figuring out that the only one she has is Sam.. and I truly need to watch it all back to pinpoint when the mare shows she wants a friend desperately but she is here in between the state of mind.. what do I do.. trust that human or what do I do.. And the way I notice that is when Sam asks something, she is slowly but surely willing to ask Sam, am I doing it right? And that the mare very slowly is leaning towards Sam, waiting for her approval.. but also still sometimes on hèr terms.. I see the curtain and big fence this mare has have around her very slowly crumbling down whilst fighting with herself.. also getting from behind that curtain and trying to find reassurance in Sam's space.. At this moment, in week 3, the mare is her own worst enemy but there are cracks in that headstrong stunning mare right now and Sam has found them and slowly but surely making those cracks opening ànd telling her it is okay to go through those cracks in your wall around you.. Sam, I hope this soms up week 3 psychological if I'm right?? And you are truly a very very VERY patient person and I truly believe that when those 100+ days have past.. that you can handle even more headstrong horses! And I honestly hope that you let Rue stay in your life because she is also the kind of horse that will help you in the future with other Mustangs, Mustangs that need you AND Rue..

    This just happened with my mare when she became pregnant. I started by doing ground work in the morning to a light sweat. I then saddled her at about 9. I cinched in three stages. She then wore that saddle for the rest of the day. She would buck occasionally for the first few hours. By the end of the day she was back to her old self. That was a week ago. I’ve ridden her everyday since not one fit about the cinch.
