The second instalment of a week of high jump training. This was my last week of heavy training before hitting a few of my 'major' competitions for the year and boy did it work out.

    What sort of “competition day” is that, high school, college, club, ect? because here in the US you won’t often find a 2.21 jumper jumping against 1.80s. Just wondering

  • @matehj

    @matehj

    Жыл бұрын

    It's a jumps only club competition in new zealand. Not a lot of 'good' jumpers here, so there is a gap between the good athletes and the spectacular. Hence 221 being first and 206 being second. And the 180's were women :P. Also Hamish recently jumped 2.34, dude is proper class.

    Bro how to power leg

  • @khi8620
    @khi8620 Жыл бұрын

    I am lifting heavy for power clean squat and other stuff but im slow and not exploding much off one leg. My two foot jump is good in basketball and better than my one foot jump. Does this mean i need to do less lifting and more cardio or do i need to lose weight or something?

  • @matehj

    @matehj

    Жыл бұрын

    It just means you need to practice one foot jumping over your two foot jump. Good strength and power helps increase your potential to jump higher, but isn't the main driver of jumping higher. When I started my 2 foot and 1 foot were about equal, but now there's like a 10 inch difference. And cardio ain't the answer to jumping higher haha

    Joining a club and trying to link up with a HJ group firstly, but I mean you can do some scuffed training at basketball courts (tryna touch the rim /dunk) or just doing sprints/skips/bounds at a field. Anything to get the single leg bounce going! Hard to practice over the bar technique without a mat though.
