I always enjoy your videos. I took from it that the only time you were able to plan was the ten hours on a Saturday. That sounds about right.
Thanks for this video and for your realness/insight. I returned to the classroom this year (after about 15(!) years in curriculum, adjuncting, and other ed-related jobs) and I feel like I'm dying. Im at school 12 hours most days and STILL feel behind. STILL feel like I'm just scraping by on a day-by-day basis. Slideshows are killing my soul lol They take forever. FIVE-ever. Plus all the other things... I've been trying to troubleshoot planning and prep and I wondered if batch prepping (one subject at a time for several weeks' worth of lessons vs planning and making slideshows one day at a time, subject by subject, day by day) would help expedite the process. Even if I can't get it all batched this weekend (obviously won't...), having SOME batched that I can copy and paste from for a while just might help! It was helpful to see this process play out for you (and to see it play out with the reality of a teacher's schedule never going as planned lol Thanks, meetings, PDs, losing prep, and all the unexpected-s!) Also, it was also helpful for me to hear you talk about where it's still slow/tedious for you, too (ex: slideshows). Thanks for not sugar coating or filtering as if you've got it all down to a perfect science or as if this week/this challenge was magical. Seeing "real" is SO so helpful! I just feel like I suck SO MUCH. And that's been hard because if I know anything about myself, it's that I'm a teacher. And I used to really LOVE this!! But returning to the classroom this year has been a lot, a lot, a lot harder and more overwhelming than I expected (which is WILD because I know I'm smarter and more capable than I was when I left the classroom originally.) I feel like I shouldn't be struggling so much... But maybe...it's just a struggle. Maybe planning is hard. Maybe slideshows take more time than we think they should. Maybe there's not a magic wand to wave, but there are some things to try that will, at least, lighten the load. Thanks!!
Hello from the great state of Oklahoma! My name is Denene & I'm going to start next year being a independent teacher online. I love watching your vlogs! BTW: What are your contract hours?

Does your school district use Beyond Textbook? I teach middle school - we are a 4 day school in a little rural community near the four corners. We don't have time for lesson planning or grading, too many tings scheduled for staff - uuugh.
So you don’t do weekly slides? You lesson plan and then include some slides if needed?
