That’s a good idea!! I’ll have to do that next year. I may buy them this year to remember though.

How do you check for accuracy? If kids are coming up to get help, are you also checking accuracy at the same time or will you grade/check the questions during planning/after school?

As students finish each section (they’ll be folding the math paper into a booklet) they will come to me to get checked off. If there are any mistakes, I will go ahead and reteach in the moment. I’ll give a star on each question for accuracy, a check mark if they get it correct after reteaching, or a circled problem to have them redo if it’s incorrect. I also plan on letting them go onto ExactPath (our math computer program) for early finishers if they are able to complete it in the given time. There is also a day in my lesson plans specifically set aside for catching up or reteaching as necessary.

I still have to use the machine in my classroom. I’ll share it when I use it.

I seriously don’t understand why we have to cover everything when we teach them to utilize everything in the room to help them. I feel like state testing is a test that sets up our kids to fail or feel unsuccessful and that’s the last thing I ever want a student to feel. Ugh! 🙄

I agree 100%. Their faces light up during the school year when they work hard and use what they’ve learned. Then for those 4 days (more or less) of testing, the sparkle in their eyes are gone and it’s just a depressing atmosphere. Which is why I try to make test prep fun and the actual test a celebration of all their hard work!!
