WEED - Legal Or Not In Norway? What's Your Opinion?

Everything you need to know about weed in Norway will be answered here. Most people think of Norway as a free and liberal country governed by reason and science. That is true in many areas of life. But when it comes to cannabis, the situation is completely different.
In this fact-based video with a sarcastic and self-deprecating touch - we tell an in-depth story about the fate of weed in Norway. We go through history, the present and in the end we will point at the future. And how just now, something is changing - new ideas, a private police lobbying scandal and the Norwegian Supreme Court opinion on the matter.
The Yourway2Norway team is located on the best-known market for green and brown in Norway. Here we sneak around on the run from the police. While we dramatize attitudes, punishments, developments, politics, new ideas, the Supreme Court's decision, and the very surprising story of the private police lobby that has ruled and harassed many Norwegians for decades.
We convey the story through the burning of scientific research, dressed as the police - we strike with a carpet beater. And in the end, Ronald and Mads find themselves in the middle of a tug of war.
Who’s side are you on? Leave us your opinion in the comments! We appreciate it :)

Psychedelics saved me from years of uncontrollable depression, anxiety, and illicit pills addiction. Imagine carving heavy chains for over a decade and then all of a sudden that burden is gone. Believe it or not, in a couple of years they'll be all over for treatment of mental health related issues.

You had a hilariously perfect AI generated troll police around 3:30 :D And by the way, I totally agree that weed should be sold in your Vinmonopolet and/or our Alko. @@steveurkel9378 What you're saying is true. It's the people who don't use it who demonize it. I was a teetotaler (avholds) until my mid 30s when my bipolar disorder caused me to almost die. I wasn't just a teetotaler, I was anti drugs, I wanted hard punishments for use and production etc. etc... I was an absolute clueless goofball and my presence was destructive. During the darkest period of my life I kinda gave up, figured I'd just try drinking seeing as I was on my way to the grave anyways. Turns out, drinking soothed my broken brain for a little while. It opened my mind to the fact that there has to be other stuff that can do the same, but "drugs" scared me to death.. I realized after about 4 months that medicating with alcohol is never going to be doable.. About 6 months later I was in the netherlands for a short while, figured I'd just try it for the hell of it after having read about it a LOT for a while + I was in a self sabotaging mood and just ate a small brownie..... My brain slowed down, I felt calm.. No anger.. No frustration.. I wasn't very high either, I thought I'd be unconscious and hardly functional, like WAY worse than alcohol, but it was _so much weaker_ than alcohol. It smoothed out my jagged moods. There was a sense of harmony, just inner peace.. First time i felt calm since the 90s.. Maybe even the 80s.. In that moment I realized that the only reason alcohol could be legal and weed illegal was that people have no idea how soft of a drug weed actually is. If alcoholics were stoners, we would be all good. Being stoners is like being a fan of coffee or a being a wine snob.. Violent alcoholics are all over the place. Violent stoners are just not really a thing unless they're carrying a LOT of baggage from their past or are extremely mentally ill and no amount of weed could make them calm. Now all I want is for weed to be fully legalized in norway. Taxed and priced at a reasonable rate. Freely available to people with mental illness and addiction problems paid for by the tax on weed. Treatment for any kind of addiction should be paid for by the tax on alcohol and weed. Weed could have stopped so many of my bipolar kin from committing suicide. It also gives you a free level up in terms of empathy. I think that's a big part of why it's illegal.. It causes compassion and shifts your view of the world... Politicians and the industry big wigs want us to be in competition and in a back-stabbing kinda mood rather than a "let's take the day off and just go fishing." kinda mood. They want us to lust for material goods and work hard to attain them rather than a bunch of people moving to a commune and living sustainably without buying a bunch of cars and electronics etc. They want us to be greedy little pigs who envy the neighbor enough to take up a huge loan to buy a cooler car.. They don't want a stoner with a 98 Honda Civic, they want an overworked laborer with a new volvo. They want a tryhard middle class guy who leases a porshe and an 8 series BMW.... Anyways.. I ramble on and on.. sorry.

I live in Texas, where medical marijuana is highly limited. However, CBD and Delta 8 are readily available. This is because there is a loophole in the law that enabled hemp-derived products to have a small amount of THC, which is the chemical in pot that makes you high. I use it for back pain (which upsets my doctor, who would rather i take prescription medicine, but that's a PITA, since it is very difficult to get the kind of pain medication I need), and also to sleep, since I have insomnia. Weed should be legal in all states. The war on drugs is an expensive failure, and it's long past time to admit defeat.

My point is that you can choose to be bothered by the pimple or choose to put your anguish into perspective. Inside of Norway, I represent the weak and the forgotten, but ouside of Norway, I represent the strength of realistic hope. We longed for Norway for five hundred years before we won our freedom. Hey, thank you for making this video! I was just in Norway for 3 months this summer and found that, at least the younger population, was well aware that weed is far less destructive for a society than alcohol or cigarettes. I started asking about it when I smelled weed in my AirBnB's back yard over in Bergen, lol. I even met people who know of others growing it. Then, when I got to Ålesund I was abled to smoke it with friends, and up in Tromsø I didn't smell it, but everyone seemed completely okay with it so long as it was kept to yourself. I be it'll be legal in Norway before too long, is my guess. Even if it takes waiting for younger leaders to get in positions of influence, it'll happen eventually, cause you're right. If you're gonna legalize things that can kill, why wouldn't you legalize something that cannot?

Hello Ronald! Hello Mads! It's so good to see the two of you back! I live in Oregon where weed is legal. You can even grow up to four plants for self-use. Weed is, more expensive to buy from the dispensaries then to buy street weed. But some street weed is laced with other drugs and can be dangerous. Buying weed from the dispensaries is safer as that it's grown in carefully overseen greenhouses. It's more expensive because it's taxed. But that money is going to the state and being used for things like repairs to our roads and many other things. The legalization of weed has also stopped many from going to jail. There are many people in jails around this country that are incarcerated for having had less than an ounce of weed in their possession. There have been a few states that upon legalization have released many of those prisoners. That has helped with the overpopulation in our jails. And yet we still have many states that refuse to legalize weed. As you've said in your video, it's complicated when it comes to weed. It's so good to see you two! Espero han estados bien. I hope Moli has been well too! Good to hear from both of you my loves! 😘🤗, 😘🤗

I don't know what the reason was behind doing it. Maybe It was to give customers a better high so that they'd come back? Or get them addicted so they come back to only one dealer? Who knows why they do anything? 🤷‍♀️

Thanks so much for doing this video. As an immigrant from the US, my biggest frustration with this issue is that many Norwegians aren't motivated to change anything because "the police won't really bother you", but that's a) not always true, and b) not equally true for everyone. Taking the risk because "police probably won't bother you" just isn't worth it because of the healthcare system, or the risks if you have kids. And the science clearly shows it shouldn't be treated the way it is, but I don't see many direct discussions about it like you've done here. Kudos!

I used to live in Washington but I am unhappy with the way it was legalized. It basically just brought organized crime into the public sector because the shops would rob eachother and it became really violent. So for a while going to any shop was uncomfortable because there would be some hired guns. And more recently, I am guessing because it's hard to insure this type of business almost all the shops went out of business but a few really big chains that control the price. They should just make it legal to grow at home and turn a blind eye. If someone is caught with a commercial grow then just punish them for that because it's different. I don't think there is any way to create a safe and fair market for it through government intervention.

Today it's completely legal for anyone over the age of 21 to buy at a dispensary, the same as you would buy alcohol or tobacco. For people who need it medically their doctors claim they know nothing about dosage and are reluctant to prescribe it even for children with severe epilepsy. Some people with serious medical conditions have to grow it themselves, work out the dosage themselves. Meanwhile teenagers sit on balconies at home openly smoking.

In the UK it is illegal, but it's so common that it cannot be effectively policed. Any city in the UK is full of the stink of weed, whole areas of bars and nightlife in the biggest cities have people openly smoking super strong skunk in full view of door-staff. I travelled around Denmark, Norway, Sweden and Finland in the last couple of years and was surprised to only see it openly and smell it in Christiania Copenhagen. I was a little surprised as the nordic countries are renown for being more liberal than the UK. I would have expected to smell it around the city parks where youths congregate, but I didn't. @@YOURWAY2NORWAY

Another fantastic video, good job. Keep em coming. As a fellow Norwegian I enjoy the sarcasm mixed with lot of truth. I'm for legalizing it, seems like a win win situation. Will remove the illegal side of "pushing" and perhaps people will talk more open about it and understand it better. It would be an additional income for the country as well and they could use that money to help people on harder drugs and clean up some the districts in Oslo and other cities where it's beggars (for no reason) and crime elements. It is well known as it is "illegal" it often makes you reach out to pushers that also deal harder drugs so easier to be tempted or get dragged into trying the harder stuff.

So yeah, if you get anything mental about it, it could be an indicator that something else is wrong in your life, and maybe you should look into yourself, and correct that.

I live in Norway, and I'm a non-smoker. I can definitely understand some concerns and why one might not desire it to be completely legal. Anything that has health risks and annoyances related with it, is automatically seen as intrusive to people other than yourself. If you smoke in a public area, you will bother every non-smoker around you. And that is not great! So we have some areas that are marked as non-smoking areas, but most people don't seem to respect them, nor do they get punished for smoking there. (But they probably deserve to get publically shamed in my opinion, because it's an obvious sign of lack of respect for the non-smokers) That aside, I'd much rather have the government teach proper respect and guidelines to people than to make something illegal. Making something illegal, does not stop people doing it, it just makes it more difficult. It's fair that in some cases, difficulty may discourage people from bothering trying, due to lack of efforts. But that is not the case with for products related with mental well-being and addictions. And thinking or hoping it ever will be is just ignorant. I have no problems with them making it legal and and taking control of the market. In fact, I support it. But if you sit down next to me in a non-smoking area and you start smoking, you should expect to get your ass kicked!

If you die from heart failure within an hour of consuming cannabis, then cannabis can be considered the cause, but if it's later than that, then it should be considered coincidental. But you won't normally know the exact time of consumption, because it's not like alcohol where you can just measure the stomach content and calculate the time that must have passed. I live in New Mexico, USA and cannabis is legal at the state level, though it’s still illegal at the federal level. It’s a bit complicated. It is very easy to obtain. Prior to legalization, use had reached a level where it was impractical to police its use in a fair and consistent basis. Making it legal in the way it did sort of took this option off the table for the police, which I think was a very good thing. Arresting people for drug use of any kind doesn’t make a lot of sense. The bigger concern in the US right now are opioid abuse and meth. Several years back, an infamous drug company heavily marked an opioid claiming that it was not addictive. They were wrong and that created a huge mess - enough so that our life expectancy went down. That’s a pretty big social harm. Still, I don’t think many people believe that those addicted users should be arrested for their addictions.

HOWEVER… When it became regulated there were added taxes for the product and it made it much more expensive to buy legally. For example, $20 for the product, and then with the taxes it now costs $33. So illegal drug sales are still high because the additional taxes make it too expensive for some people to buy. Some people are also just opposed to paying taxes on marijuana.

There was no increase in crime or car accidents. It seems most of the people who wanted to smoke weed were already doing it, and many of them kept using their regular suppliers who sold it cheaper than in the dispensaries. People formed startups galore to sell and market cannibas, but most went bust. A big nothingburger.

Pricing is not the only issue. I don't know the laws in California specifically, but in some states you will be arrested if the weed is not in it's original packaging, for example. They still use every loophole they can find to harass and arrest people. The difference in Norway is that the legal system works much better. Like stated in the video, cops would like it criminalized, but the courts refused to punish them, effectively making it not criminal. You don't have that same power struggle in the US, I think, between the legislative (e.g. courts) and executive (e.g. police) branch. They are too close-knit, which is a big problem, and you have way to many levels of government. We don't have separate legislation for cities, counties or municipalities here, so you don't have to worry about hundreds of different sets of laws. Basically it's still a war on drugs, but they switched out the violent busts with economics and other legal trickery. I suspect that after the next election, weed will be legalized in Norway.

According to scientific data, it is much cleaner than alcohol or nicotine. Criminalization does not suit a democratic country like Norway. Maybe vinmonopolet doesn't want to lose monopoly. Ha ha! Still, it was good to know. Thanks for the video.

You will get punished, not by jail time or fines, but by the police harassing you. You'll also risk loosing your drivers license if you drive, you don't even have to ever be caught DUI just the fact that you're caught "abusing illegal substances" is enough. If you get caught driving with trace amounts in your system that's a huge fine and loss of lifetime, their tests can detect use over a week afterwards and I know people that have been caught and gotten fined and license taken for driving 4-5 days after smoking. I recently heard that they're gonna change that and make it more fair but as is now you really can't risk driving for a week or two after smoking weed.

Love this it's proper Yourway2Norway! Hope this is sorted out before next July when I come back to the beautiful Norway! It's really hard to to get to sleep with the midnight sun! 🌞 😂 Love it guys I'm on the fence with this the is pro's and con's with making it legal but alcohol and cigarettes are definitely a lot worse and yes if it was legalized that would put the criminals out of business but would they then start bringing in the hard stuff instead??? Eg heroin, cocaine etc.??? 🤔🥴🇧🇻🇧🇻👍

There's already alot of heroin and cocaine in norway. Often times sold by the same people that sell weed with the current legaslation. Legalization of weed would mainly help customers who want weed, but don't want to deal with any kind of cartel, get their product in safe cirumstances.

The legalization of cannabis is not interesting for the alcohol and cigarette market, just as the cure for diseases is not interesting for the pharmaceutical industry.

It’s shocking that your laws there are so ambiguous. It’s legal in my state in the US and all the surrounding states and it’s just not a big deal anymore. The biggest change is that it’s been destigmatized and lots of people use it, including my 83-year-old father. It helps with aches and pains and so many other things. Maybe decriminalizing it in Norway will lead to more acceptance and eventual legalization? It seems to have worked well in Canada and the States.

Here in Uruguay it is legal to smoke it but not to distribute it. Nothing much has changed aside from a lot of people smelling like a skunk, which is not that much of a big deal.

Just want to say you can get it from a pharmacy in Norway its just really hard to get it prescribed from a doctor. Atleast if its the versions with thc over 1%. And secondly if you get it prescribed in NL and are importing it back from the Netherlands you also pick it up from a pharmacy and not coffeeshop. Its not legal to bring some random weed from a coffeeshop. The reason the customs are such bitches about it is because some people used to go weekly and pick up like 300g, and sold it in Norway. And fucked it up for the rest of us. But as long as your papers are all good you dont get harrased. Its a easy process going through customs, ive done it in several airports and entry on boat and never had a issue with them. People that say they got harrased usually didn't have everything in order papers, amounts or didnt go on red and pay the VAT if they bring value over 6000nok

OK. First of all, that tug-of-war scene was very annoying lol. It made me seasick. Don’t do it again OK? So secondly, Canada here. We are completely legalized here. Although there are some rules with regards to of course, driving under the influence and transporting and selling. However, each Canadian can grow their own on their property up to two plants each. Also, we can even order it from the government. Yes, that’s right, the government sells weed to its citizens. I do not use it myself, but I do order my CBD oil from the government. And where I live, there are at least 4 to 5 weed shops in my moderately sized town. There has been no mayhem. No crisis no nothing really as a result of that.

Any government worthy of the name will support both sides in anything the media can present as a "war", and Norway does this better than most.
