    This show came out before color tv, beating your kids was still considered normal discipline to many people. The fact that these parents are against violence as punishment in that day and age is amazing.

  • @iprobablyforgotsomething

    @iprobablyforgotsomething

    3 жыл бұрын

    There is a difference. Or at least, there should be. But in practice, there really wasn't back then, for far too many parents. Leaving behind bruises that lasted days, if not longer, maybe small cuts if they used a belt etc. that had sharp-edged decorations (on accident or on purpose), kids not being able to sit w/o pain for the rest of the day... That was a common "middle ground" spanking for many, between "too-light lovetaps" and "deliberate injury so appalling the parent doesn't let the kid outside again till they heal". It's a so-called middle ground that still tilts wildly towards unacceptable abuse, but as long as there were no emg trips to the doc required, or busybody neighbors to see, it was the measure of acceptibility many parents used as a guideline back then. : /

My parents let me go to Led Zeppelin concert with 80,000 fans at age 12. It really was crazy seeing my Parents waste there life drinking all the time. Had 1 sister learned IRISH Dance. Im a Pisces I was born to like Rock N Roll Music. It's interesting how the most unusual family is also the most functional family in television. I wish more family sitcoms followed the Addams Family's example. Well I grew up in a black household with black parents and black families always have and still use the switches and belts lol definitely the difference between white parents and black ones.

    @@kendallrivers1119 Not that much different, I'm a white man from an all white familly, and it was still a thing during the early 80s, getting sent to the principal's office was always bad news and it usually meant to me that I definitely messed up somewhere, now obviously it's a criminal offense that can easily mean going to jail over child abuse or even worst, and I don't need to tell you what happens to child abusers once arriving to prison... My parents never did this to me, even when the principal told them what I did, but it wasn't pretty once home, even though they never believed in corporal punishment so I still think that I was lucky... However, my uncle went too far at some point and he's got the belt ( we call it the strap ) from my grandpa, but it was during the 50s and such discipline ways were a common thing back then, the cops were never stepping in, at least he's got his lesson, now he's a doctor...

    The fact that Carolyn loved this character so much she kept everything. Her dress, wig, her wicker chair… I was always kept in her room until the day she died. I wish her and John could have been together outside the show, but she died knowing how he really felt all long and he found that out too. I love that they got their backstage kisses when the 60’s era shows wouldnt allow people to kiss on the lips in television. Doesn't sense since they allowed John to kiss hey whole body… but a peck on the lips is out of the question. They were too sweet and their affection on camera was groundbreaking during this time period.

    I'm only 23, but my parents raised me on reruns of The Addams Family and The Munsters. Still two of my favorite shows! My kindergarten teacher also taught my class the days of the week in a song to the tune of The Addams Family song, with snapping and all.
