This is just a masterpiece of a series. Those characters are so weirdly genuine. You can't help but loving them. I simply adore Morticia and Gomez.

Gomez never seems to tear anyone down when they offer an opinion or ask about something, he usually just compliments them or listens, never belittles. Ugh I wish more people were like that

I love that at this time, you could still serve punch and cookies to trick-or-treaters and people expected it. My grandmother use to do that. Cake and cookies for the kids, coffee and donuts for the adults, and the house was open for people to come in and rest while their kids trick-or-treated up and down the street before leaving with their parents for the next street over.

In the mid 60's we lived in a neighborhood that was right out of Normal Rockwell. One Halloween I was trick-or-treating, there was a house several blocks from ours that was having a halloween party and trick or treaters were invited in for treats and some punch. In many ways it was a more enlightened time.

@@JeffDeWitt It was similar for me. Sometimes there were sleepovers after the parties, especially if Halloween fell on a Friday or Saturday. We knew all the neighbours and it was fine as long as mom & dad knew whose house we were at. One Halloween when it was unseasonably warm, the family put up a tent in their back yard. There were air matresses and blankets or sleeping bags for everyone. We told ghost stories in the dark till we all drifted off. In the middle of the night there was a sudden downpour and the tent started leaking! We ran inside and were greeted with big fluffy towels and hot cocoa, before bedding down in the family room for the rest of the night. For breakfast we got French toast! 😋😘Then we all walked or biked home with our bags of candy (what was still left of it, that is 😉). It was indeed a simpler time.

J's Watch heresy means having an opinion that is very much at odds with what is generally believed to be fact, which, in this case, is that John Astin and Carolyn Jones are the definitive portrayals of Gomez and Morticia.

For those that don't know the Addams Family was created by cartoonist Charles Addams for the New Yorker magazine. The first of what became the Addams Family cartoons was published in 1940. The people in the cartoons were never named, but when the TV show came out it was natural to call them Addams.

"They aren’t seeking very hard" Morticia had me with that..

I love how Thing is like their guardian he knows that the Addams are kind and generous yet very naive that he takes it upon himself to guard them anyway he can.

My mother's maiden name was "Adams". There were 12 children in her family. We us cousins, nieces, nephews, and the rest get together for a wedding, or reunion, or some other family function well invariably hum the Addams Family tune and snap our fingers. It always cracks us up no matter how many times we've done it over tge years. I'm 67 now so that's alot of years!

My first exposure to the Addams family was thru the cartoons. This old series reminds me of the cartoons' vibe.

I really love how spooky yet kind and courteous they are to everyone

While eccentric, some of the most well adjusted nice people.

Aaaah finally a functional family on TV before there was Married with Children.

This TV-show does not get enough credit. It was so ahead of its time and would watch every episode if it came on TV today. I cant say the same about many tv-shows from this era.

They all have such good manners, and speak so beautifully clearly and concisely. And the children are SO well behaved and obedient. Many a family could take a leaf out of the Addams family book( code of behaviour).

As the years pass, people could learn a lot from the Adams. Especially on how to treat eachother

Raul Julia and Anjelica Houston were both highly enjoyable in the 90s reboot of "The Addams Family". They had solid chemistry and worked well with each other. Their connection was strong and very entertaining to watch. Both actors should be commended for bringing Gomez and Morticia to a new generation of audiences who may not have been familiar with the old series. That being said, John Astin and Carolyn Jones (for me) are still the definitive versions of these classic characters. Their dynamic was delightfully offbeat and they possessed such vivid chemistry that it's still a pleasure to watch more than half a century later........

John Astin fell in love with Caroline Jones and Anjelica Housten for Raul Julia. Something about playing the roles causes real feelings to emerge.

I honestly prefer these Addams over the new movie. Especially Thing and Wednesday. She's more adorable here and I just prefer Thing popping out of boxes instead of being a disembodied hand.

After all these years, I'm still laughing at their antics. Programs today have more swearing then entertainment. It's takes creativity to make program like these!

This show is perfect in black and white.

My mother’s nickname was Morticia in high school! I still call her Tish sometimes m, even though she pretends to be annoyed!

"When we're together darling, every night is Halloween." To me, that's relationship goals. I wanna find someone like that because I love Halloween and cosplay- Halloween's the best time of the year to me. :3 ❤

Halloween is something we should all strive to embrace, the weather is nice albeit a bit nippy, the colors are both vibrant and ominous, and who doesnt enjoy dressing up? stiffs, that's who!

John Astin, who played Gomez Addams, is actor Sean Astin’s adoptive father. (Sean played Samwise Gamgee in the Lord of the rings.) The actor who played opposite Don Rickles as one of the “bad guys” is George Vincent "Skip" Homeier... He acted in a couple episodes of Star Trek original series. Always enjoy seeing him perform!

Seriously ... I wish more people were like The Addams Family in general. I mean, why can't we just be more like them?

I would spend an entire Halloween with the Addams family.

I wore my Halloween t-shirt that day and my dad made a similar comment about everyday is Halloween to him! Mostly the shirt reminded him of all the strangely dressed people that shop at Wal-Mart everyday!

~ As cool as Lurch is, he is positively _terrifying._

The script writers are so wonderful for such humor. I love the Addams Family. Listen to old school shows just to go to sleep. So organic

I had this on VHS back in the day god I loved it Also fun fact for me the actor for Uncle Fester, Jackie Coogan, is my great great uncle on my dad's side

I just googled the actors on this show and found out Fester was played by Jackie Coogan. He was the original child actor and first starred in the silent film 'The Kid' alongside Charlie Chaplin as the KID. This show has so many household names for it's time. I wish it would get syndicated and rerun on cable TV.

Interestingly, there was a law called California Child Actor's Bill (also known as Coogan Act or Coogan Bill) which came about in 1939 when Jackie Coogan, a very famous child actor at the time, had millions of dollars stolen by his mother and stepfather. The law was designed to safeguard a portion of the child actors earnings for when they reach the age of majority, and protect them from exploitation and abuse. Absolutely love The (original) Addams Family.

A party at the Addams family home should be fun. But I’d bring my own food and beverage for sure.

This is the kind of family I've always wanted, unconditional love and acceptance. 👻So much Positive Energy.😂 Genius writers, with mind blowing laughter.

I know it's all 1960s fictional horror-comedy, but man, I envy this family! Imagine how wonderful Halloween (or any holiday they observe) is spent.

They missed a great gag -- when the burglars explained Hide & Seek to them they should have said, "Someone has to be It." Then Gomez: "Ah! Someone already is! " [Goes to the fireplace and sticks his head up the chimney] "Cousin Itt! Come on down and say hello to our guests!" Could've been a hilarious scene.

The props department actually lined Gomez’s pockets with asbestos, that flame-retardant material always there to put out the match’s fire.

Always loved the Addams Family since 1965. So happy to see it on You Tube. Morticia, Gomez and Uncle Fester know how to treat their guests!

Nostalgia... And to think the Addams family house was actually entirely pink to render well in black and white (btw loved the hommage made in the animated movie towards the end with that pink house makeover hahaha)

Wasn't even born when the Addams Family series was originally started, but the first time I've seen them on TV, I was just a teenage kid during the late 80s, I found them incredibly funny every time... Not to mention that Jackie Coogan ( Uncle Fester ) played with Charlie Chaplin in his movie The Kid when he was very young during the 1920s...

Such a tripped out show. Best characters for it all. Perfect. Love every minute of these guys. Thanks. Great.

I am 66 now and have always had a "crush" on Carolyn Jones. Check out some of her earlier work in movies. She co-stared with Frank Sinatra in a few of them. She is hot.... hot..... hot..
