I had one back in July. Fortunately I wasn’t supposed to take pics in the dark but since she was my friend I did some just to practice and omg 🫠 it was the worst I couldn’t even see thru the viewfinder. I’m a beginner so you can imagine how nervous I was, even when I wasn’t getting paid. But yeah worst experience ever.

If a wedding coordinator hires a photographer and doesn't put adequate lights in the room, you should not be mad if the pictures come out subpar or full on awful, or if they end up receiving far less photos than usual. People have literally no idea what decent - good lighting is to the success of a photographer!!

I really like your technique of action camming the photography, then after adding your commentary. We don't need to hear the event, just you. Plus I think it lets you stay in the moment of shooting, then later tells us what to you is instinct. Good Job.

One of my favourite videos, I particularly loved the 100% crop shot, lots of noise and you can see noise throughout all the pics and they still look beautiful. I really need to get away from 'noise fear' as this is just a part of photography (for now at least!) I think we can be so focused on everything being perfect that we can miss the storytelling and what matters. Thanks Taylor.

Hell yeah. I agree. This is the one reason that I am not really going out to find "paying clients" because simply put, I still suck too much, and don't quite have "all the right gear" (which is not THAT much gear)... but wouldn't want to tarnish my name before I even get started.

omg yes!!! I try to explain this to photographers in my area that use flash every ceremony they can. first it produces different quality than the majority. so many do not allow flash. as a result, i just don't and i keep my work consistent in the church/ceremony sites. I don't normally push past ISO 3200 - you are my hero with that ISO 5000+!!

One of the features I never knew I needed until I had it was the 5D IV’s flicker detection. Flickering fluorescent bulbs are such a pain, as you mention @11:00. Then again, I shoot with the 5D and primes, but there’s still a lot to love about the equivalent Nikon setup with the D850 - and capturing a wedding with ambient at ISOs like that (without swearing at your AF) speaks well of any camera. Do you ever use the AF assist light from your flash?

Hi Taylor, love the video. It was perfect timing for me as I just undertook a similarly challenging wedding... candlelit. I'd love to see how you processed your images here. I am struggling to find a balance between sharpness and noise reduction. Also colours are much harder to get right in images taken at 4000-5000 iso. For example, the whites of eyes often go pinky red. Cheers from gloomy England!

Excellent job and very informative tutorial. I wonder what would have happened if you had used the shutter speed at 1/60 instead of 1/100. What I guess is may be you would have risked the blurry image on one hand but a little less iso grains on the other. What are your thoughts?
