When I got married in 2018 I couldn't resist composing a piece for my wife-to-be to walk down the aisle to. "Paean to Helen" was performed live by a wonderful string trio, but we took no video or audio recording. I decided that, as a birthday gift for my wife in 2023, I would get a recording made so she could hear the piece once again. I'd like to thank the talented musicians who made this possible:

A wedding day anecdote: I was careful to ask the venue manager how long it usually takes the bride to walk down the aisle. I was assured around two minutes, and so I dutifully composed a piece of that length.
The big day arrives and I'm standing nervously at the front. My beautiful bride enters the room, the string trio start the piece, and before I know it Helen is by my side in 30 seconds flat. There's no option to press pause or contrive a tasteful fade-out with live music, and I am the only one who knows that there is another minute-and-a-half to go. As the seconds wear on I sense growing bemusement and uncertainty from our guests, from the registrar, and from my bride - when on earth is this piece going to end? Are we at a wedding or a chamber music recital? What could I do but smile foolishly until those long, long seconds of music had reached their eventual conclusion and we could get on with the job in hand. The string trio did, at least, play beautifully, and I think everyone was so thankful when the music did eventually end that the ensuing atmosphere was one of abundant joy - or perhaps simple relief.
A memory I'll treasure forever, and a distrust of wedding venue staff that I'll take to the grave.

Beautiful and fitting for a wedding! Your wife must have loved it. As an occasional wedding accompanist, stories like yours rekindle my grudging respect for Canon in D. Tedious as it may be, it can stop at a moments notice and feel complete. The perfect piece for processions of indeterminate length 😂

"Grudging" is the word! I'll grant you that it's hard to beat for suitable stopping points. But if I never heard Canon in D again I feel my life would be none the poorer! I'm not bashing the piece itself, it's just overplayed to the point of - as you intimated - tedium. I'm glad to finally have a recording of the piece I wrote for my wife, even if it is sorely lacking in possible escape points!
