Weber SmokeFire Pellet Grill Repair

Ғылым және технология

In this video we look at the repair of a Weber SmokeFire EX4 Gen1 pellet grill. I bought this grill off of Facebook Marketplace. It was reduced from $100 down to $40 due to the bad motherboard. I think it was a come get this thing out of my way deal. It was an awesome buy and ended up being a fun quick fix. I also spend time on video troubleshooting the grill issues with hot surface igniter (glow plug) and the pellet feed bridging by adding a repeat timer and vibrator to the hopper as well. I can also upload a video of replacing the parts to make this a Gen2 grill if needed. I know this issue has been around for some time and it may not be needed any longer. Hope you find the video helpful and thanks for watching!

Really appreciate that someone has done a repair on the actual board. All the other advice online is to replace the whole $300 board. Not sure what the deal is with mine yet, but I'm getting external power and a flashing +5V light, so presumably not the fuse. Wish me luck

This is probably the first time in internet history where an SMD fuse actually failed prior to the circuity it was designed to protect.

I think your clamp would be a better holder than your spring. Thanks! your videos are always good!

No doubt at all that it will hold better. I even have a heavy spring clamp as well, but both make it a pain to get the glo plug back in through the opening. It is possible though! Thanks for your kind comment!

Sorry to hear of the issues. Was it the 1st Gen parts switched over to the 2nd Gen?

A question in regards to the 5A SMD fuse, what is the voltage for the fuse? 24V ?

The one I used is rated for up to 60V. This is a 24V board so a 32V rated and above is fine.

I have the 1st generation - I rebuilt everything twice except the computer. Still under warranty. I wish they would just replaced the grill. It is a horrible grill with idiot DEI & A.I. support The CEO should be FIRED!

I’ve had my Weber FIRE EX6 for over two years. And I can tell you that my pit has never looked that dirty or full of grease. i’m still running on my first igniter.. you need to clean your pit after every cook or prior to the next cook. Your video shows your absolute neglect in caring for your $1200 grill backsplash smoker.. your problems and complaints are self-inflicted.. poor maintenance.! The video you show proves that. Stop pushing the blame on someone else and take some responsibility..

Well first of all if you actually watch the video you would know that the grill was purchased by me as broken. So that was the point of me buying it, what could cause this? Secondly the video was about troubleshooting and discussing possible causes as all my videos to get some shared feedback on issues to be helpful. Since I paid $40 for it I am thrilled and it does indeed work well. I really like conversations back and forth between what others have seen and even opinions as long as they are respectful. You can take your attitude elsewhere!
