    I'd add "removing the lid" for the next cleaning. The quick release pins make it a snap and it's a simpler way to clean both pieces when they aren't in danger of slamming shut while you're scrubbing/rinsing.

    I gave mine the Spring cleaning a few weeks ago. Like you, cleaned the burner tube first then took the dismantled grill to the coin operated car wash after scraping the mess out of the cook box. $4 for 20 minutes. Pressure washed like crazy and left the mess there. The Easy Off is a great idea. My Q is over six years old and will have to replace the burner tube with the next cleaning probably in the Fall of the year. NO complaints.......

    Hi Steve- which parts do you put in the dishwasher? I’m guessing the lid and the grates and debris catcher, but surely not the base? I think Weber say don’t put the grates in the dishwasher. I don’t know why because they are enamelled after all so won’t rust. Cheers

  • @stevestratton1888

    @stevestratton1888

    I put in the shells, the grates, the grease tray, and the burner tube. I dont’t wash the plastic base, the handle, the thermometer, the igniter,or the regulator assembly. Before I reassemble everything I spray the plastic base down with some simple green and wipe it off real good. I don’t really care if Weber says not to put it in the dishwasher I’d rather replace my grill a little early and have a nice clean grill all the time👍🏻

    Weber suggests taking some plastic trimmer wire from your weed whacker and pushing that through the burner tube. It'll knock out any cobwebs in there too. I really wish those grates were easier to clean. That's my only complaint about the grill!

    I have literally disassembled my Q yesterday. Soaked it with Simple Green over night in a huge plastic mixing pan from Lowe's and took it up to the carwash to use the "high pressure" wand. The pieces being the support legs, the bottom and the lid. EZ PZ right? Wrong. That was not successful, so back to the house to try something else. Tried some AWESOME from The Dollar Tree store. I had been using Awesome to degrease truck engines and the like with some real good results over the last 10 years or so. NoGo at this station. Wife says that we had some of that citrus degreaser in the laundry room. Tried that and nothing. I do have a 4000psi pressure washer but I am holding off on that for now as I do not have a concrete or paved driveway to set the pieces on. Tomorrow I am going to get some spray oven cleaner. I know most say not to use on aluminum, but it will be a "Wham Bam, thank you Ma am" process. I am trying to get it to where the caked on layer of grease is gone off the lid and the bottom, so I can repaint it with high heat engine paint. The grill is about 6 years old now and it is used every week. It gets cleaned fairly often (every other week - bottom inside, burner tube with the grates each time it is used) and the outside I guess not enough. I love this grill. It is on a hillbilly" tool cart setup with 2 20lb bottles, 2 HFT fold up shelves on each side, wide track stance with 10" knobby tire/wheel combo steerable casters on one side. I live in the southern part of NC so I am playing with the weather (temps below 50 and rain). PS: DAWN dish detergent did not work either.

    @@GallaghersGrub Oven cleaner and hose on JET setting got it cleaned up along with some extra vigorous scrubbing. Then VHT Hemi Orange High Temp engine paint for the lid and VHT Flat Black High Temp header paint for the bottom. (Exterior only) Lined the bottom with HD aluminum foil. Just literally came in the house with the lid (missed a couple of places) and am waiting for it to dry completely before doing the "paint set/cure" heat up of the grill before I actually use it this afternoon for Italian sausage and brats. I still need to delouse the cart and repaint, but that will not stop me from grilling. Thanks for the channel, your efforts, the recipes and shared information. Hopefully I will be able to get up to Lake George this coming August. Really missed seeing family and the lake.

    This is great, but I live on the second floor of an apartment building and can't easily take my grill downstairs to the car wash area and back for hosing down. But I scrape down the bowl after every 3 or 4 uses (or more frequently if I've made something that leaves a lot of fat behind) and scrape the grill with a brush before grilling and sometimes after (so the remnants don't smell the next time I cook; just thinking of my neighbors). I did clean out the holes in the grill bar once and that made a huge difference. My Q1000 is six years old and going strong, and I second the recommendation for the cart.
