I noticed after about three years of heavy use I could no longer hit seat temps of 550. I thought it was the small propane tank, converted to a 20lb tank. Still was hitting only 500. Cleaned the grill, took special care in the manifold and noticed the flame was yellow. I looked at the air inlet, and it was dirty. From years of grease smoke, the mesh had become covered in dirt and grease and was dark. I cleaned it with an old toothbrush and all purpose cleaner. Dried it with paper towels, flames were blue. Grill hits 575 after 17 minutes. Just thought I’d share.

Fire Escape Griller did you try cleaning like this guy suggested? I don’t use my q1200 enough for it to be so dirty, but I have to think that cleaning it this way will fix the problem. The q1200 is too simple a grill to have any complex issues.

I've got a 2200 and cleaning the inside of the lid makes a real difference - as it blackens, less heat reflects back and therefore it struggles to hit the high notes (though very rarely do i need to cook anything >400)

Nice review. I've had my Weber Q 1200 for about 2 years now and I still love it. I bought mine to keep on my boat and it stows away nicely in a storage bin below the deck, and unlike the super expensive marine grills, it gives me excellent temperature control. I got the black one, so it doesn't show the discoloration so bad after long term use. I love my little Weber Q and highly recommend it. I enjoy your channel and your videos...you've inspired many great meals on the boat !

My Weber Q 120 was the predecessor to the Q 1200. February was 4 years since I purchased it and it's still going strong. Push button electric ignition gave out but it's no big deal. I give it a deep thorough cleaning about twice a year and I could not be happier. Thanks for all you do and KEEP ON GRILLIN!!

Grill Hack!..... Especially to those buying a new Weber Q, if you line the inside lid with foil, that will keep it looking new and then just change it out as needed. Now, I like grilling on a flat surface for things as you covered such as eggs bacon pancakes and onions and peppers. So I ordered the BlackStone tailgater. I just received it so I’m not going to open it and immediately send it back due to your review showing the flat griddle accessory. I’m very pleased that I can keep my new Weber Q 1200 in (Orange) with the cart. The first thing I will do after opening and assembling it will be lining the inside lid for the two reasons that I mentioned. Thanks so much for all you informational videos. I’m always looking forward for your next video.

I usually grill using charcoal and I own the Smokey Joe, Jumbo Joe, and the 22" Performer. This is great for a quick cook. When I got mine I didn't have a stand. I found a cheap crappy grill for free locally and removed the grill box and attached wood to the top and used the legs for my grill stand. I added some wood and hooks to the sides for my accessories. overall I like it and it is a little higher than the normal height of the stands. The ONLY think I am not too fond of with the Qs is the side shelves. They serve their purpose but sometimes a little too flimsey especially if you are out and about and the ground isn't perfectly flat. I use the shelves on the salvaged legs and they are much more stable for home cooking. It's easy to pop off the shelves that come with the Q so they don't get in the way!

Great video! I never realized the LP version had a higher domed lid. I owned the electric version for 10 years until the electric element broke. I loved this thing because I live in an urban area so charcoal smell would loft over to my neighbors. Originally we owned a large kettle version of Weber’s Black Charcoal grill. That thing lasted over 10 yrs too. The issue with the electric was the dome wasn’t as high. I did cook 4 pound leg of lamb on medium for 3 hours in December and it came out so tender. I did use some bourbon soaked chips in it too but it’s a bit tricky with electric. Weber does sell or used to a nice grill platter I use for veggies. Thanks for this info about the gas because I believe I will go this route!

The Q1200 and the Q2200 are both great ways to go because you get the domed lid. The 1200 is smaller (good for a couple). The 2200 is called the family Q. One nice thing about the 1200 is the great colors you can choose from. The 2200 only comes in one color.

I bought a used Q2000 with a cart for $50. After a few years, I replaced both the grate and the burner. In all, I had it about six years. Totally awesome. Made roasted leg of lamb, bread, you name it. It was just a bit too big to move when I sold the house, so I sold it to a grateful neighbor. Settled into a new place, and I am definitely getting this one. The 1000 isn't domed enough for some of the things I want to cook.

I have had a q220 for, what..., 6 years now. All parts are original other than the split grates I ordered. When I grill with gas this is my go to grill. It has outlasted 3 standard gas grills I owned previously (not Webers). I am retired for 3 years now and grill a lot! This grill might outlast me! No rust, no broken parts. This is my go to grill for sweet corn grilled in the husk. I grill a dozen ears at a time, cut the corn off the cob and freeze! Oh my god, so good! I still have enough for 8-10 meals in the freezer (freeze in bags flattened. Keeps a lot of corn in a small space). Anyways, this has been a great grill. Thanks for your review on your model.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking at picking up a unit for my terrace here in Seoul, South Korea. I've seen comments regarding the robustness of the barbecue, and it being totally fine uncovered year round. My only concern here is extreme temperatures with nearly 50 deg C up and down (-15C / 5F to 35C / 95F). Would a 160z (1 pound / 450g) canister be okay in these conditions when not in use? I'd also like to purchase a cover, so as to protect the bbq from the elements.

The Q is the perfect grill for a terrace. I never cover mine and have had no issues even in snow or rain. It still lights with one push of the button after 3.5 years. I'm not sure about the canister. I have had no problems, but I typically use the 20-lb tanks. Check with the manufacturer. They can tell you more. You will not regret getting this grill. The only question is which color?

Nice video. I own an older Weber Q model 200. Came with a different style cart where the 20lb tank sits on the cart under the grill and it came with the adapter hose and cover as well. Doesn't have a split grate like the newer models. Overall it served me well over the years. Like you I leave it out exposed to the elements with the Weber cover over it. Two faults with it: 1 - The burner does not have a shield over it and over it appears to get clogged with grease? and/or debris and does not light all the way around until it gets hot then all the little holes ignite. 2 - The dedicated Weber cover is not that good. The back portion that sits over the lid is made of a mesh fabric. Why mesh? The grill sits outside and the cover is supposed to protect it from the rain, snow, whatever. Mesh does not protect it. Bad design Weber. The good, still lights with one push of the igniter (partially as explained above). Overall I would definitely buy another one and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a smaller portable type grill. Weber is still the best in gas grills!

Yes, I highly recommend this grill. I think the domed lid makes it better than the portable Coleman grill. I don't bother covering grills anymore. Bought a cover a long time ago for an old Weber Genesis and never used it. I feel like they just trap the moisture inside with the grill. And they're kind of a pain to put on and take off all the time.

I have the q100 for 8 years now. And I can agree with everything you say, which holds true after 8 years as well. Except for your conclusion about the temperature gauge. After 8 years the maximum temperature drops down even more then what you've noticed, and it becomes noticeable when grilling too. My conclusion is that this is caused by the q100/1000/1200 not having flavorizer bars and occasional grease drips on the grill tube can't be prevented, clogging up the holes, preventing the gas flow making the flames smaller even at full power. I am not sure if a thorough cleaning would fix this or if I would need to buy a new tube. Other that that, it has served me well for 8 years.

Very happy with mine. Have you had to replace your regulator? I dont get a good light when starting the grill. Burner is new. I usually have to shut the top and let it warm up before the entire burner will light.

I have not had to replace the regulator. It sounds like you may have a problem with yours.

It's a great little portable propane grill. Well built and runs very well.

I have the Q2200AU in black. It’s a great colour for hiding those grease smoke marks.

Black really is the way to go. I've got the light colored one and it's stained too.

Any idea how many ‘cooks’ one can get out of the little 1lb propane tank before you have to change it? I worry that I’m switching to a new one before I need to.
