Weber Go Anywhere next to Smokey Joe - family review

After our friends showed us how versatile their Weber Smokey Joe was against our Weber Q 2000, we decided to buy a go anywhere. We love the q series but it’s not easy to carry around and takes up a lot of boot space. Better for larger group sizes but not for camping or beach days.
We couldn’t have been happier with our new purchase, the go anywhere performed amazingly well.
We used it too cook burgers, sausages, veggies, a whole chicken and even a 4.5kg pork shoulder joint and it nailed every one!
The heat was easy to control with the adjustable air vents and the portability was amazing!!
It even doubles up as a great mini fire pit after the bbq!
Also everything clips on and off which makes it super easy to clean and pack away
without the need for tools for taking apart.
Highly recommend!

First thing you never ever do with any weber grill is shame it by using those pre soaked charcoal bags. Chimney starter and briquettes or lump wood every time please.

Agreed, chimney starter is The Way, as is lump charcoal, I use B&B Oak lump (brown bag) and it smells like a regular campfire, no chemical taste like pre soak or match light briquettes.

Mate, the grill on the Smokey Joe is upside down, hence it has a lip

Thanks for the video. That version of the Smokey Joe has a design flaw-the air intake is at or slightly above the charcoal level instead of below, so it doesn't have proper air flow. That's why after a bit it smoked while the GA was still supporting a flame, with air coming in from beneath the charcoal. Also the comment below regarding a chimney style charcoal starters is correct. Weber sells a small one.

We've both too. ~ I cut the legs off at where they just begin to curve on the Smokey Joe. It still sits on the ground ok, but we use it set in/on an old 2 foot tall milk can with the lid removed. It vents just fine to cook at a decent height. As our fav's are half chickens..lid cracked. Ashes that sneak out the bottom vent go into the milk can. Can move it when lit too. ~~ Li'l tidbit if run across an old milk can at some antique joint. Rusty ones are cheap. tips me hat ~

The sides of the Weber Go grill grate are useful for adding wood pellets/chips for smoking

Thta smokey joe is the oremium on and should have a latch that goes around the ip handle. The original smokey joe has the vent on the bottom and an ash catcher but no bale to secute the lid

What about cooking area Go Anywhere vs. Smokey Joe? On the paper it looks quite simillar, but what about real usage?

Done it plenty of times...both 5 pounders whole chicken on WGA and SJ....you're still in the hot dog and hamburger ...lighter fluid phase..
